Great review! They fit very well on the G techs, I’m size 44.5 and didn’t swap the middle bar, though they do snap on really hard… ;) got a vid on my channel climbing in this set up. Love your reviews buddy 🙌
I keep my darts hilariously tight, so I’ve never had the problems you discussed though I could see it happening. personally, I think the darts the best crampon on on the market and I’ve used everything from G 20s to alpinist techs to blade runners. The only thing I dislike is that it’s not great to use on a boot larger than size 44 as the standard linking bars are kind of short.
Have you tried attaching a different rounded shaped toe bail? Eg the bd toe bail to the darts? This is what im considering. Have you found other crampons to fit the phantom techs better? Cheers
The Dart was purpose built for ice climbing and dry tooling and it's apparent by looking at the front section of the Dart, there's smaller points in-between points that are meant for biting into cauliflower ice and chandelier ice, also the Dart weighs less than the Lynx. But that's not to say that the Lynx isn't a technical crampon, because it is. Like you said you can make the Lynx mono, but the Lynx can also be used as a mountaineering crampon due to its slightly bigger platform and more standard 14 points of contact. Basically what it comes down to is the Lynx is a do it all crampon whereas the Dart is a specialist crampon.
Have you got the torre eggers, been looking at those boots and wondering if I should get them over something like the phantom tech or g tech but their a very few reviews for them.
I actually haven't used aluminum crampons, I have though looked into doing the KIT CORD-TEC conversion on the Darts to have them be a hybrid setup. But, I've also been looking into the Beast Lite Auto Crampon from EDELRID. It looks to be a fairly no compromise aluminum crampon that's meant for technical ice and mixed climbing.
