When Christine begins to sing her aria near to the end it gets to me every time. And indeed the emotional quality throughout this particular film is what endears it to me and makes it such an appealing drama.
It was the use of music in this version that endears me to it. Is it the best version? No. But, this adaptation emphasizes the connection to music and life the "phantom" so loves, but is cut off from.
What is your list, from fave to not fave? I'm watching the 1943 Version now, I love it cause it's diff that the phantom is seen regular before he becomes it
Hammer is one of the best horror Production Studios ever created and they created some of the best and most terrifying horror films ever made that includes their remakes Bela lugosi's Dracula is terrifying is Christopher Lee is a little scarier The Phantom of the Opera's that came early on were scary except the first color one which was more sympathetic this one straight up horrified me from the violence to the personification of the Phantom The Voice the first time we see him the entire scene in his Loft and the entire ending is just way too traumatizing but it's a film that I love and I think God is remastered now because it's just one of the best and most terrifying horror films ever made more people need to watch it it's high definition for now because it is just truly a horror film
Roger--This Phantom version is on DVD, so you can buy a copy.I saw the film in August, 1962 when it was released. It was a good picture (story) without seeing the other versions at the time. With that said, you have to keep the context of this version apart from the others. But for a Hammer Film, this movie was done on a better budget and it shows, and don't forget it has Herbert Lom.
True, but I feel that's on purpose. If you watch the other Hammer films that were based on novels, you'll notice a change in storyline there as well. Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein, for example. I think, personally, its quite good and a unique take on the story. I enjoy it. Obviously, that's my opinion. You may have yours as well.
