The music video for "Drop" was directed by Spike Jonze and filmed in Los Angeles. The video features footage of the group performing the song backwards, replayed backwards, which when combined with the chopped, spacey beat of the song gives the video a slight surrealistic quality.[1] The group also worked with linguistic experts to recite the entire song backwards. Ad Rock and Mike D of the Beastie Boys make a brief cameo. ~ Wikipedia AMAZING stuff right here
x1x2x3able wow. This was for people trying to figure out how their mouths were in sync with the lyrics while performing it backwards. How much of an idiot can you be.
Not A SINGLE comment is wondering why the video looks the way it looks!!! So wtf do you mean "for people trying to figure out blah blah blah." Everybody except you knew the video was filmed backwards, so the only idiot here is you, pal. There is even a behind the scenes video on youtube for people to watch, so it was completely unnecessary for your stupid ass to brag about logging into Wikipedia and cuting and pasting their shit.
x1x2x3able lol once again for the people who were asking how their mouths were perfectly mouthing the lyrics while they're moving backwards . There is an entire Reddit post about it. The post links this RU-vid video. You're an idiot.
moms spaget isn't it dead? Fairly certain hipsters pretending to know what's up with modern hip hop and rap doesn't make it a hipster concept.....positive vibes brother.
***** Most of modern rap is really good... it's just not on the radio. You have to look a bit, NOT EVEN that much, like a QUICK Google search could get you a list of new school rappers who ACTUALLY try.If you like 90s era rap check out Pro Era (mostly Joey Bada$$).
God man, im a music download freak. i keep upto date every day in techno, house and tech house. Disco, minimal, funk, soul that you don't find without looking hard. show some respect!
back when they actually went through some trouble and work for music videos instead of standing infront of a greenscreen with a few groupies in the background...
Eoda well first of all chief, it's much more appropriate to say hip hop has always been creative. Unfortunately, that's no the case! Hip hop hasn't been inspiring since Eminem first came out. Nobody rocks albums now a days, it's track 1,9, and 15. I remember when you could buy an LP and rock the whole thing, which is something all the young cats can't and won't understand! There is nothing inspirational and motivating currently that would make you want to write something mind blowing. It's all club bullshit and fake ass Wanksters that think they are keeping it real. What a joke! Hip hop Is supposed to resonate in your soul. Real talk Lil Wayne, Drake, etc. are just not up to the task. I remember when gangster rappers were actually gangsters and not faggot ass rappers who think disrespecting women would get them to the top! Get your shit straight and then holler at me. Until then realize hip hop is currently a joke to anyone that truly loves it! #donkeyseverywhere
Jaime Suzanne I disagree. Have you heard of Kendrick Lamar? His albums 'Good Kid MAAD City,' and 'To Pimp a Butterfly' are both extremely cohesive albums that you can listen to front to back. Not only do these albums push the thematic and narrative boundaries of the genre, but they both have their own, musical identity. They sound nothing alike! Someone like Kanye (even though many non-hip-hop heads don't like him) is continuously trying to reinvent himself- and it's evident when you listen to his albums. "808s & Heartbreak" sounds nothing like "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" which sounds nothing like "Yeezus." There are a plethora of other artists I could have used (Run the Jewels, Flying Lotus, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Yelawolf etc), but I felt that these two are easily accessible, examples of creativity in mainstream hip-hop. You also point out Lil Wayne as an example of a bad hip-hop artist, which is common among people who aren't really familiar with Wayne's discography. Even though, he's fallen off in recent years, he was up there, in terms of lyricism and flow. Just listen to something like 'Dr Carter' and tell me if you feel the same way. I agree that misogyny is a problem in hip-hop- but if anything, it's improving! Though I do find it strange that you complain about how women are disrespected in rap but at the same time you cite Eminem as an example of a good artist. (I agree that Eminem was amazing, but he's a major perpetrator when it comes to disrespecting women in rap) The sound of hip-hop is continuously, evolving- Pharcyde was interesting because they didn't emulate their predecessors but rather drew inspiration from those who came before them and put their own spin on things. Same with all the greats, whether we're looking at Nas, Pac, Big, or Outkast. You don't have to like modern hip-hop, but it's not fair to say that it has stopped being creative. So yeah, hope you can change your mind :) sorry for writing this dang essay, I'm just really passionate about hip hop.
Jaime Suzanne You cannot generalize an entire genre based of a few rappers. Maybe if youd actually take the time to look up new rappers you would not say such ignorant things.
J Dilla, one of the world's best fucking producers, who passed away 10 years ago from the blood disease, TTP. Not only that, but his last album, Donuts, became 10 years old on the 7th, Dilla's birthday. REST IN BEATS!!!
For real! I mean, they are literally moving backwards, but they're displaying an illusion that they're actually moving in regular motion. It's amazing.
Hip hop like this has yet to return. I hope it does one day. This video kicks so much ass!! My god, the 90's were such a brilliant decade for music like this.
Shalom brother,I'm a Hip-hop follower, since the mid 80's and a music lover in general as you can tell by my list of different genres i made public.,Ecclesiastes 7:16 Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself ?
jordan mccrory I had a friend that was a fan of Jurassic Five. So I figure I introduce him to Pharcyde with "She keeps passing me by". He starts listening to it then just says " I'm sorry I can't stand his voice (Bootie Brown) and shuts the video off. Dude got into Jurassic Five because of knowing they were a big Dreamcast fan group. He obviously does not get hip hop.
You have to listen to underground that is where Hip Hop is at. The problem is everybody thinks that just cause someone raps they are Hip Hop. That is like saying someone eats spaghetti & meatballs & now they are Italian.
Problem is. in the nineties I was very young and didn't really know shit about Hip Hop and on TV I could listen to what we call today good old classics, real Hip Hop. If you tune in now you'll see only the modern garbage, money music... Nowadays, to find talented Hip Hop artists you got to do some research, it probably makes it more satisfying to discover new artists you like but... it means if people don't take the time to dig, they won't know. The talented ones are in the shadow because money is blocking the sun from them and that's pretty sad.
The guys from Pharcyde dropped a ton of wisdom for the books *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP 2* This is one of Imani's quotes from the second book: 'You gotta practice, man. I don’t think there’s no MC that was dope overnight. Anyone that I can think of as dope, it took time to for it to be fresh, cultivate their sound, cultivate their style, formulate their ideas."
Hello ! We have made another music video using the same technique :) This is our humble tribute to the work of Spike Jonze, with the Hip Hop track "1994" by KKC Orchestra ! Hope you will like it : /watch?v=THlvbgn5wJo
Damn. You can just tell how much fun they're having. I wish more Hip Hop crews were like them instead of trying to act hella tough all the time. Odd Future is like the only popular new crew I can think of that somewhat maintains this kind of energy.
This that feel good natural high shit you can't get from weed, liquor, molly, x, or coke off the corner. If you want mo you have to ride to the pharcyde where the days are cold but the nights are warmer. As you arrive you'll strive to be less bitter enjoy ya stay and pay ya respects to j dilla
not just the fact it was recorded in reverse the had to learn all there rhymes backwards there actuslly rhyming in reverse took them months to learn apparently crazy very creative
the enemy ? they are the industry who promote only the hate and destruction and avoid the uplifting feel of music or a strong harmonious message (even if it is done in an hard core way)the enemy are the followers who only follow an artist based upon its patriotic agenda and not the skill or the brilliance of the musical spirituality. The enemy are the ones who do not sign or promote the artists who have an edge anymore.. The deep people like Hendrix, Bob marley, Bob Dylan, kate Bush, pink Floyd, 10cc ect would not be signed up in this time of now. the enemy will only sign lame puppets who say nothing to upset the order of chaos. its not a race thing.. its all about the soul verses the souless.. I know you was expecting that buba
CHRIS L Arrrhhh... no bubba, it would be to easy to just blame one race.. this thing is all about a spiritual war bubba.. I'm going to catch a plane from London and kick some sense into your asses one of these days.... ee eee e e :)
Hey GMANKOOL23 thanks for the correction. Know that my comment was not intended to mislead but a simple error on my part. I shall be sure to not make the same error in the future
The way this music video was made is just so fucking amazing. It looks so properly executed, because if you haven't realized, the whole entire video is backwards.
these dudes, as well as the whole Heiro crew, ATCQ, Das-EFX, and the other finest conscious groups wrote - bn.com/s/9781613744017 that and the one that came before it are out of this world
Insane how they had to record and film everything BACKWARDS, and even more unbelievable knowing they had to remember all these words backwards and memorize them... definitely going down in history
General Price there are plenty of artists out there that are awesome, if you try looking you'd find that there is an insane number of talented rappers out there that just don't get on the airwaves
I was only a baby when this came out but I came across The Pharcyde while listening to Pandora radio ever since then I've been listening to everything Pharcyde I wish I couldve been 22 in the 90's
[Hook] DRRROOPP! [Verse 1: Bootie Brown] Let me freak the funk, obsolete is the punk That talks more junk than Sanford sells I jet propel at a rate, that complicate their mental state As I invade their Masquerade, they couldn't fade with a clipper blade 10 years in the trade is not enough, you can't cut it I let you take a swing, and you bunted for an easy out I leave emcees with doubt, of exceeding My name is Bootie Brown and I'm proceeding, leading They try to follow but they're shallow and hollow I can see right through them like an empty 40 bottle, of O.E They have no key, or no clue To the game at all, now they washed up Hung out to dry Standing looking stupid, wondering why (why man?) It was the fame, that they tried to get Now they walking around talkin' about represent And keep it real, but I got to appeal Cause they existing in a fantasy when holding the steel [Hook] [Verse 2: SlimKid3] Rock a bye baby Listen to your heartbeat pumping to a fine Ravine, of all things it's a vain of a shrine All missions impossible are possible, cause I'm Heading for a new sector 365 Days from now, I'll wipe the sweat from my eye And each and every true will stick, or fall from the skies Of my cloud nine From homies all the way to chicks, no matter how fine Controlling is a swollen way to wreck a proud mind You hold it in your hands and watch a man start crying Tear after tear in the puppet man's hands Every time you take a stance you do the puppet man's dance And the world's at a stand-still, deep in broken-man's-ville Trapped in the moat with an anvil, still Killing yourself, and dogging ya health You ain't amphibious, so grab a hold of yourself [Verse 3: Imani] (Shit is-shit is ill) Look through my will, my flow still will spill Toxic slick to shock sick like electrocute When I execute, acutely over the rhythm On those that pollute, extra dosages is what I gotta give em Got em mad and tremblin Cause I been up in my lab assemblin Missiles, to bomb the enemy Because they envy me and the making of my mad currency Currently I think we're in a state of an emergency Cause niggas done sold their souls, and now their souls is hollow And I think they can't follow They can't swallow, the truth because it hurts This is how I put it down, this is my Earth, my turf The worth of my birth is a billion And you know what time it is I'm gonna make a million (You know what time is it? Never)
Hey lyricsfromsweden I knew Spike Jonze directed but I had heard and believed it was Spike Lee that taught them to rhyme backward. However after a little more research it appears that I may have been wrong for all these years. Thanks for the shout out and rewrite of my history
Love 90's hip hop. If it still sounded like this today, I'd be a fan again. As a 90's kid, it makes me sad when I see how deep and artistic this genre really was. Now it seems like they'll give any idiot a record deal. That goes for all genres, but hip hop especially has just gone way downhill. Rappers today need to take note!! THESE are lyrics. Not "I'm a playa, I'm a player, bitches and hos..." Music should have substance and this is meaty as fuck.
In my opinion the best hip hop video ever!! It's one of a kind and so much creativity in it!! And the song is dope as well!! Let's bring this kind of hip hop back!!
DISLIKES ON THIS VIDEO? WOW! THIS VIDEO IS ONE OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE AND CREATIVE VISUALS EVER MADE, IM NOT EVEN SURE MICHAEL JACKSON COULD'VE CAME UP WIT THIS.
Mostly metalhead here. Always liked Pharcyde since the 90's, and more recently have gotten into Busdriver and Cormega. Anyhow, I tend to not like rap, but if something has heart, it has heart. Also, this video is fucking amazing. RIP videos and songs with heart on TV and radio!
+Drew Minatti well when u have to look for it and other genres u don't, that pretty much means it didn't survive against its competition, of course it's out there but against other genres it's barely noticeable
