The planning for this was insane. The Sacramento community literally lifted me up to help me see this vision through when I had not a single penny to my name (been a super rough year lol but that’s life) We took 3 days to set up the space. First day was loading in and setting up sound and placement of the desks in the space. Second day was getting the lighting, photos, and dress rehearsal. 3rd day was the official shoot. There was a magic energy filling the space that I can’t explain, but I had a plan, and this turned out way better than the plan I had. This is a result of amazing teamwork and minds coming together.
As someone who’s entered the contest for years, this is absolutely next level. Bar-setting. I’m floored, this was well deserved and man this song hits the feels hard. Congratulations!
next time ask your label.... i mean community ;) for a few G's to film and produce a small film about your song and manage your social media. I usually just ask my human resources department who we can hire for the band's entry each year then do the screening process and filming process, make sure to put all 6 of your producers in the credits.
I recently read about you in Apple News/The Sacramento Bee and was deeply moved by your story and the incredible group effort it took to make this recording. There could not be a more deserving winner. 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
I played a SOFAR show with you in SF in 2018, not surprised to see you on the front page of NPR this morning! You were putting in the work then, and it looks like you haven't slowed down at all! Congrats!
I predict you’re gonna win. I’m sending you nothing but good energy, man. I’ve believed in you for a long time and watching your growth as an artist has been so amazing to see. Good luck!
This was awesome, The concept, planning, execution to enable the appearance of a casual "I'm just gonna sit down and do this before getting to my laptop drudgery" in the office. Love it. A well deserved win!
I have been listening to the Kironic nonstop for the past couple of days and using this for tomorrow's worship service in Davis. Glad to call y'all neighbors. Congrats on the success!
Heard NPR announce ya'll as the TINY DESK winners out of 7000 entries!!!!!! Made my drive to the beach this morning a lil sunnier and definitely more SOULFUL. Congratulations from the 305.
This is my second day this week of listening to this song on repeat all morning at my standing desk, swinging my hips to the groove working on getting back up & make meaning at my job. At some point I'll explore your other songs but for now... I need this one. Congratulations and thank you (and before long, I tend to put my money where my ears are so I'll look for an opportunity to do that for ya.)
Congrats! So much good music was entered but without question you deserve the Tiny Desk Win! I love what you're doing and I'm so happy that the world gets to hear your music and your message!
Congratulations, The Philharmonik!!!! Loved this song the second I heard it on NPR this morning and haven't stopped watching the video since. The joyous "What's It All Mean" is the best song I've heard in years and the whole group is wonderful to watch and hear together. What a great sound you all make. Hope this WINNER of a song brings you many, many great things!
Brilliant work on this song and video. So glad to have heard you live in Sacramento and to see you moving up to more national platforms. Great submission! 👏
Hey Philharmonik, Man....I found out about you from your winning the Tiny Desk Concert Contest this year and I am kicking myself that I didn't know about you sooner because you are one bad dude! Love your music man. I have your songs stuck in my head now particularly this one and my favorite Pay Me. hahaha It's not funny but, the sentiment most working folks can totally understand. There is a righteousness to your lyrics and the music is very compelling. There is a ton of heart and soul in your songs man. I have always been drawn to "real" music and I think you are speaking to the people with your songs man in the best possible way. I love what your doing man and I hope this finds you well and I wish you and your family nothing but, the best in all that you do. Cheers! Peter St. John Clovis, CA
I didn't even make it through the Tiny Desk Contest video before coming over here. I knew I loved this before you started singing... and then you started singing and I knew had to hear more. Good luck, Christian!
Hello! I’m a great fan of public broadcasting, and now you! Ty for your wonderful and work. This track resonates with me in ways I still haven’t the capacity to fully appreciate. Ty for putting yourself out there and sharing your talent. For now, this track is my morning affirmation! I’m in Maine btw… another reason to love public broadcasting 🙂
Wow, I was transported back to the 70’s as a kid with his question and vibe. I don’t know why but that’s how I felt, it’s all relative I guess. Congratulations!
As a vocalist and professional musician recently moved to Sacramento, this gives me all kinds of encouragement that Sacto is on the upswing, y'all! Hugs congrats to these talented folks right here and to the video director too!
guess I gotta shout out to my boy/choir director/center for Spiritual awareness pianest @SamPhelps on base in this amazing video. Thank you Sam for helping The Philharmonik put Sacramento on the map -- y'all are right up there with Greta Gerwig now.
PHIL you have a amazing sound. This track in paticular was a great choice for npr. This track is like the into to a sitcom of life! Much love fam look forward to seeing you perforn behing that tiny desk!
Dag! Randomly found The Philharmonik. Blown away is an understatement. The vocal arrangements are stellar (George Benson/Luther league ). The girls really shine. The band is smokin. Lead singer amazing (shades of Billy Preston) and he raps..great! I never ever comment either but I was moved to.
Spectacular and Inspirational! One of the top tunes of 2024 for sure. I hope all the folks at NPR took some time off from scaring people when they first heard this and went outside and enjoyed life a little.
I saw him in concert in 2019 and honestly what a vibe. I really hope he continues to receive more exposure people with this type of talent need to influence. 🎉
If only my 80-year-old ears weren't so compromised, even with the best hearing aids I could afford, and if only my laptop speakers weren't so tiny and muffling words I really want to hear and think about, I would not ask. But if you get a moment, to add them here, I would be pleased as well as proud for your achievement with more to come.
What’s It All Mean (Lyrics) I was told I could be anything that I wanted to be Work hard so you can make money and fulfill your dreams But if you look at the people that are better than me Trying find a way around this power scheme What It's all mean? What it's all mean? What's it all mean? What it's all mean? What's it all mean? What's it all mean? Get up, go to work Go to sleep, then repeat You can't seem to meet needs Working hard like machines Broken heart torn apart Making sure your closed off And avoid getting hurt To preserve your self-worth What's it all mean? What's it all mean? What's it all mean? What’s it all mean? What’s it all mean? Should I drink and do drugs Since I only live once Or ask God for some help So I don't go to hell Or invest in my health And acquire much wealth Either way it's all vain ‘Cause we end up the same What's it all mean What's it all mean What's it all mean What’s it all mean What’s it all mean What’s it all mean If I keep it slow and steady Then I’ll win the race Got my eyes on the prize Let’s take it day by day Even though on the journey We might fall on the way Now, if you fall seven times Make sure you get back up eight. What’s it all mean? What’s it all mean? That’s what it all means What’s it all mean? What’s it all mean? That’s what it all means What goes up must come down What goes around comes around Around the sun we revolve Life itself still evolves Lots of things we don’t know Always more room to grow Everything still goes on After we’re dead and gone Life goes on Life goes on Life goes on Life goes on Life goes on Life goes on
