The largest companies in the Philippines are worth tens of billions of dollars. Narrated by Tom McKay Video Edited by iyanbriandi Inquiries: behindasian@gmail.com Brought to you by the Behind Asian Team.
Ph biggest companies are sm of the sy family, bdo also of the sy family, ayala land and bpi of the ayala group, san miguel corp, jollibee, megaworld, to name a few.
Ayala land smdc megaworld are the largest philippines real edtate developers.Ayala land is the most predtigious for it mostly concentrate in developing the most luxurious condos housing and landscaping suitable for the taste of pilippine elite and foreigh expatriates ambassadors and business people.
They operate in the philippines where goods and services are much cheaper, so its not a problem, further, they hold the market, so even if a foriegn company comes in, its not like theyll be put out of business. These companies having lower in value is a actually a good sign for the locals, because it means the goods and services are in line with the purchasing power of the citizens and therefore they do not drive inflation that much.
"If a foreign company comes, it's not like they'll be put out of business" yes because chances are, these local companies own 60% of that "foreign" competitor. A stupid PH law requires foreign investors to give up 60% of their ownership to a local partner. The only reason these businesses are afloat is because that law allows them to not have competitors or they're co-owners of their supposed to be competitor. No competitor = they can milk the market all they can despite having overpriced and poor quality products/services, focused more on profit rather than improving their services (investing in tech, trainings etc). This is the reason why they only succeed/operate in the Philippines because they're waaaay behind of what their regional counterparts have to offer and can't compete.
Most Filipino Companies are conservative. They are not aggressive enough to expand outside their main business and market. They are confined to their Philippine / Filipino market and with their traditional businesses. Even when Jollibee expands to other countries they are still focus on "Filipino" market. San Miguel, Ayala and SM the biggest companies in the Philippines they have limited expansion outside the Philippines. You rarely see San Miquel products abroad and you cant see BDO or BPI banks in other countries. Whereas, there are Malayan Bank branches in Philippines. Indo foods products are common in Philippine supermarket. Also, Vinfast EV will soon be sold in the Philippines.
@@gangstagummybear3432 Then why don't you sell things that other countries want, so that you can increase the value of your money? Why not semiconductors? Silver? Defense products? Medicines? Biotech research? Why can't you people produce these things. If you make these, your currency will be stronger.
@@JingJao Im not from PH, alot of things simply havent happened there because they have just discovered alot of the resources they have in their lands, do you have any proof they dont have such things like this? No, no you dont, you couldnt possibly have researched, just assuming
@@gangstagummybear3432 I sure as hell know they have a hundred million people. That’s their biggest resource. I’m simply suggesting to use that, like korea and Taiwan did
Yes we are improving. Only the bitter people cannot move on due to politics. Our president is indeed very brilliant that some bitter Filipinos cannot accept the fact that they are loser.
@@kgb976 well you just bitter btw our inflation rate was 3.5 now. Actually I have more investments now compare in the past 😁 you what did you invest?😅 Find a job bro😂
Nice videos but I still think few people should be checking comments on videos to just see if there’s a reason to make huge profits by working from home
You aren’t comparing apples to apples. You compare jfc to mcdonalds, but mcdonalds is not only older by 35 years, but also has a larger and richer base market, the American market. While comparing Philippine banks to Indonesian ones is also unfair since not only does Indonesia have a larger population thus more people to get money from, but also has a larger economy, and we can see when compared to banks from countries with similar size, population, and economy Philippine banks are comparable if not slightly ahead.
@@nico77212 yeah he’s comparing the companies’ values to each other and in terms of financial that’s literally which is more important. Imagine I compare a start-up to apple or google, or a company from a third world country to one of a largest companies in the states oh wait that’s literally what he’s doing in the video.
@@1cho456 sure, compare them to each other, no one is stopping you. Then what? One is worth 100$ the other 10000 times more. End of story. Was there any lies said?
@@1cho456 he isn't trying to make equal comparisons, saying this is equivalent to this. He is just showing its value compared to other bigger companies. Oh I don't know, to strive to be better?
@@nico77212 it’s misleading…. Believe what you want but it is not fair. Saying that one company is better just because of a factor that the other company can’t control is unfair.
So true, one thing is the local work culture hasnt progressed as well compared to global businesses. The mindset and work culture has to change to grow bigger
I'M NOT FROM THE PHILIPPINES BUT I TRAVEL A LOT IN THE PHILIPPINES I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE AND COUNTRIES BELITTLE THE PHILIPPINES, IN FACT, THEY CAN ALL EAT YOU ALIVE! 😅
Also most of the largest philippine companies deal with real estate business that makes the country's manufacturing side very weak even agricultural products are being imported.
As Philippine companies grow big, they become less risk takers. They know how they are responsible for many people's livelihoods, as well as its impact on the Philippines' economy if things go wrong for them, which makes them more cautious when it comes to new projects or expansion.
@@reetusbeetusDumbass neighborhood voted for Marcos cuz Sara was gonna be with him as a vice president when all this time Marcos just used Sara Duterte to win the election and unfortunately the president term now is 6 years
The comparison with Petronas gas is absurd. It is because the Petronas Gas is just one of Petronas' subsidiaries. Fact is, the parent company itself, which is Petronas, is not publicly traded company. Petronas is owned by the government. In Q1 2024 alone, Petronas generated revenue of 20 Billion USD with net profit of 5 Billion USD.
ayala: the quiet multi billionaires . They literally have locations named after them. They are basically the ones directed bybthe government building entire new cities like bgc /nuvali / clark 😂. They are quiet nowadays
Thank you for this eye opening information how these considered big companies in Philippines are doing internationally and globally by benchmarking the sizes and performances of the Giants such as J.P Morgan Chase and Mcdonalds. One day, there will be a leader that will change that competitiveness of Philippines globally. BDO, Ayala, San Miguel etc. have to raise the bar of their competitiveness and be more open on how to disrupt strategically the global business to compete and to win the global arena.
your comparing jollibee that just start releasing branches to other countries while mcdonalds did that longer than jollibee that's why mcdonalds is bigger then jollibee bcs jollibee is new to the world lol.
Because then failed to expand outside the Philippines earlier. They just started maybe around 5 to 10 years ago. The Philippine market is extremely small.
It's not true PHILIPPINES are rising i watched from other videos and news and also PHILIPPINES are working their own imprestructure like new trains and buildings and skyways.
Be realistic, how can the Philippine firm chance to be a successful if the big and famous countries in Europe and USA is always dominating international in global market since 18th centuries with their big names traditionally, do they gave a chance to the poor countries in Africa Asia and South America?? I‘m very optimistic that the Philippine go further and this is the beginning. Philippine economy is going up faster like a lightning !!
As what Miriam Defensor said, Philippines is a not heard country from abroad. Which is actually true because the market is not very welcoming to foreign investors.
Will Jollibee is a big company in Philippines Jollibee even overshadowing McDonald's in the Philippines cuz Jollibee follow the Filipino favorite sweet food
It is common for a "foreign company" to come and go in any country in terms of investment, but the question is: how many of these foreign companies are leaving the Philippines, and at what percentage, in comparison to other countries with a high number of foreign companies leaving? Obviously, this source lacks credibility, considering that China is the country with the highest number of "foreign companies" departing due to its economic crisis.
Shout out to all OFW... In the USA,Asian Americans are the most successful,1 Indian,2 Filipinos,3 Taiwanese, etc..the Most hard workers here are immigrants. So stop belittling my people because we are very smart. So to all Pinoy politicians stop your corruption, it wasn't the Pinoy who failed but the government itself, because we are doing fine in the US and helping the economy..we kept sending money to PH, we expect more from the leaders of PH,to stop stealing money.
Phillipines would already be an power if the martial law did not happen before the martial law 1dollar equaled 2 peso Now its 50-60 peso per dollar its not even fair
If we kept the PHP and the currently went back to that value we should be the #3 richest country(I even doubt we c9uld be in that rank even if that value was kept)
Since the title mentioned Asia, JFC should be compared to other asian owned fast food chain. It would be asia's largest then. Ph is slower in terms of development but its trajectory is upwards. Some of our neigboring rich countries only have impeding doom in front of them, dwindling population and unhappy citizens. Stay positive ph
The largest company in the Philippines are caregivers, every year young Filipino caregivers contribute 36% of the Philippines' foreign monetary reserves
We know philippines is only no.4 human exporter ,no1.still india no.2china .no3 mexico no.5egypt😂so don't worry your country of origin stil ahead of exporting slave .

You crack me up with these videos, seems like the objective of your channel is just to make a video making things look over PH stuff, thats moronic, the lack of context behind why all these global corporations are bigger than PH ones is immense, but I understand this is the way that channels get subs and thumbs up, creating a point of look down on PH must equal success on here amongst the Filiipino/Philippines hate crew.
