This Solid State Philips Glidomatic came to me vandalised and had most of its internal wiring ripped out literally while it spent some time on the side of a road almost destined for the rubbish dump. Now I have almost completed this restoration, just needs the back panel and repaired record compartment door re fitted and then its ready for sale on ebay. I will post another video documenting the Glidomatic's journey in more detail soon. In the meantime, take it away Chris Montez.

As a fan of stereo consoles, please accept my thanks for rescuing this fine old unit. It breaks my heart to see these set out for trash, vandalized, or stripped of parts. They deserve far better than that.

Oh...Very Nice Indeed Rob! I would have that as centerpiece in the lounge in the blink of an eye! You've really brought it back from the grave! It looks Stunning! The control knobs look the same as the ones on an Ultra 6006 record player. If you do plan to sell it...Some lucky person is going to be very pleased with their purchase! Looking forward to seeing more of this Philips before it leaves you! :)

Saw one of these for sale at Haunted Antiques/Kilsyth/Victoria today. It appeared to have more original components/graphics but what caught my eye was it had one Electric Guitar dial and one Microphone dial where this one has two dials for Left and right stereo channels for just the microphone (1:14).. ..odd.

Looks fantastic! I'm picking one of these up this weekend looking to restore it also. I've got broken glass and missing dials on the left panel I need to look into.

Thanks tubeie07. Unfortunately the only documentation it came with was a connection layout sticker on the inside of the cabinet. I would be guessing and say it puts out around 8 watts per side into the original 3 way speaker configuration. The original Philips badge (BSR) turntable did not make it and this BSR was a spare that I salvaged some years ago from a damaged Astor or Sharp unit from memory.

Thanks Jon, appreciate your comments as always. Unfortunately it has to go to a new home to make room for the Kriesler waiting in the wings for repair. My only advise to the new owner would be to replace the speakers. When I had it on the bench it was producing a much nicer sound with my test speakers. Unfortunately I would never recover that cost outlay on ebay if I went ahead and did it myself. Must admit it did come up nice though. :)

Yes it does have inputs on the left hand side panel, all 5 pin connectors for Organ, Tape recorder (auxiliary) and Microphones separate L/R. Cheers.

Stylus are generally easy buy but the cartridge depends when and where the Glidomatic was assembled. If it has a "Philips" badged turntable fitted then it will almost certainly have a Philips head shell built around the cartridge and those are hard to find. Even if you did find one it wont be new and the headshells are very hard to retrofit. If the turntable is a BSR or Garrard then you should be able to fit a new Ceramic cartridge relatively easier but compare the output specs 1st.

Quite unusual for the main transformer to go. I will message you to see if we can trouble shoot because they are not exactly an "off the shelf" item these days. Cheers.

I just got back my glidomatic, I hirer purchased it in 1969, lol, I was 16 and got a job at David Jones W.A. I haven't check if it still turns on yet it arrived today, I wanted to know where you get new parts to restore the turntable.

Hi there, i must say you've done an excellent job restoring this, it looks 100%. I bought myself a Glidomatic just recently, almost identical but with different padding on the front of the speakers. everything in my one is fine bar the main transformer, you wouldn't happen to know where to source a new one of these from at all, would you?

Superb restoration! Do you know the wattage & current speaker configuation? ...and I presume the BSR is the original?

Aria Killanin hi there, I have a Glidomatic and might be able to help. What do you mean by you’re trying to get into the transmitter? Are you trying to get the whole circuit board out of the timber frame so you can work on it?

I just finished repairing one of these. Take the knobs off under the tuner, unscrew the white collars that hold the glass on, and remove it. Take off the 4 wing nuts that hold the right speaker baffle on, and remove it. Unplug all the connectors from the amp/tuner chassis - They are all keyed and unique so you can’t mix them up. Finally, undo the two flathead screws on the top (under the glass) that hold the chassis in, and slide it forward and up out of the body of the radiogram. The circuit diagram is available on radiomuseum.org, and the diagram for the UA601 amplifier modules is available if you Google it. 😌

I am selling my dad's house and it has a Phillips Glidomatic in it in good condition. What would it be worth and where would be the best place to advertise it. Live in Perth WA
