Same here, some dude asked me what's my view on life and existence, i told him it's pointless, he then asked me why am i being negative, i asked him why do you think am being negative? But then i explained to him that you can creat your own meaning in life. Literally the definition of absurdism and i didn't even heard of it at that time. 😍I think i could've been a famous philosopher in ancient times 😍
When you reach the end of the tunnel you will look back and see that every idea you had about life or yourself is pointless. The reason why most haven’t realized this is because they understand things in relative terms but perceive it as absolutes. No one in here is special, we are all mechanism of something greater than us and that also is how it probably works for the thing greater than us. It’s a network where nature combines it all and prepares for the next step
I actually don’t understand how anyone is not an absurdist. Even if a god does exist, how does that give life objective meaning? I don’t understand what objective meaning would even entail lol
the thing is, for an absurdist it doesn't matter if you stop worrying about it or you don't, your "should" doesn't matter, you can do what you want, worry or not.
I’ve just discovered that I’m an absurdist. It’s only taken me 70 years to find my label. This is absurd. Incidentally I’d just like to say that two of my favourite films are Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Stanley Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove.
@@joseph1755 Well, they don't HAVE to continue to live, obviously. Pure pleasure isn't exclusively what its all about though, right? (assuming you and Corvid there aren't hedonists) If you conclude that there is nothing worth living for...by all means. If there is, then stick it out!
Not at all. Absurdism is people searching for a meaning while there is none. Camus gave three possible solutions for the absurdism issue which are 1. End life. 2. Leap of faith. 3. Embrace the absurd reality. It is absurd to be in a need of a meaning while there is none. It is also absurd to create a subjective meaning for yourself. It is like paying yourself money because you're poor.
Mika Liste Camus assumes that there is no meaning in the first place. So the theory is a pure assumption in the first place. Life and existence is beyond meaning and meaninglessness . It is as it should be.
Ramdas Chakraborty It is not life in itself that is the absurd, but the relationship between the human tendency to seek objective meaning and their inability to do so in a meaningless and chaotic universe. Camus quoted that one must "imagine" Sisyphus happy. In his acceptance to his punishment he became happy. It appears that the human mind is beyond the absurd and capable of justifying such a belief in spite of the reality of absurdity. There's was an experiment done on humans on the effects of placebo. Basically a (dummy-pill) it's an inert treatment or substance that has no effects. So a pill is said to help with depression. Remember that this pill lacks contents but by the subject believing that it will prove effective the brain some how self medicated and produces more dopamine. In it we can say the mind is a very powerful tool within our power. So in a sense by you imagining and convincing yourself that Sisyphus is happiness in turn becomes a reality. Or at least your reality.
One must imagine Sisyphus happy. By sisyphus accepting his punishment he became happy. By us accepting the absurd we go in accordance with it and in a way form a relationship with meaningless and somehow make our own subjective meaning. Sounds absurd but it's meaningless to ponder on it. Just act.
Whoever wrote this video didn't do their research. "Life has no meaning," is called Nihilism, not Absurdism. Absurdism is a philosophy that accepts humanity can't find a logical basis for meaning, even though finding things meaningful is an inevitable part of human life. So absurdists say to accept the absurdity of the situation and simply live a meaningful life WITHOUT justifying it logically. The word "absurd" means "something that is illogical or irrational." So Absurdists decide to be absurd: they live a meaningful life even though they have no way to describe that meaning with logic. Personally, I don't see any difference between Absurdism and Existentialism. In both cases they embrace meaning and purpose for human life, even in the absence of rationality and logic. Nihilism is fundamentally different because it rejects meaning altogether as an illogical construct and a fabrication from human emotions.
Woah, finally! How did I not know about this? I’ve been told I’m an existentialist, I’ve been told I’m a nihilist. I just kinda thought I was atheist. Turns out, it’s absurdism. Who knew? I feel like this information is literally what I’ve been trying to explain when I’m asked about being atheism. Like could be verbatim. I.did.not.know.this.was.a.thing. I’m gonna check out Camus.
I fkn love absurdism, I remember thinking in high school that nothing mattered and that was fine, I then discovered absurdist theatre and that became my meaning
The philosophy of Existentialism also gave rise to the Theatre of Existentialism, which is markedly different from the Theatre of Absurd. Nonetheless, this video is fun!

the producer's definition of Absurdism is not standard as they substitute Nihilism for the Absurdism, I don't think that is not a mistake that BBC would make.
First absurdist was omar khayam.go search history.he said"we are just like puppets being played by puppeteer....once the curtain falls neither of us shall ramain"
Hi @Ramiro. You are right. We just published another video on existentialism in case you want to check it out too 👉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H_tgqj9MU8M.html
What you ever you can think it is not true? After all it is your own defined meaning not a eternal truth. Everybody has their own belief don't force them on those who believe something else. Ultimately you need food cloth house and medicine for your survival. Whether it has meaning or not.
maybe you should try to explain an idea without using the name of the idea on each sentence... doesn't really tell much at the end, just makes you feel like it
I mean, it is absurd,. faith is absurd, lack of belief is absurd, corn is absurd, and that's cool. everyone has an absurdity to them which just makes me enjoy everything more.
I am no expert, but I think a baseline (existential) nihilist position is the fact that things dont have (inherent) meaning....and from there are different ideas how to deal with that....and absurdism is one of them
Nihilism is the complete rejection of a meaning in life as impossible. Absurdism is the limbo between human instinct and the urge to find meaning in life but also the acknowledgement that this meaning is definite and entirely due to faith.
@@karlfriedmann5320 I see... I think I’ve been absurdist the whole time without knowing it “life is meaningless, let’s get pizza!” Sort of thing. Absurdism is vibe.
If you believe in heaven, you just created a meaning for life, go to heaven, if you interpret that as objective you created yourself, then you can be absurdist, but if you believe God created that objective for you, then you can't
How do we know that everything is absurd? Through the study of philosophy and science. So that must mean that the study of philosophy and science are not absurd, and if those things are not absurd, then what else is not absurd?
I would disagree, though - here's why: 1) If we say life is absurd, it need not be through the study of philosophy and science; the simple fact that almost every human, at some point or the other, questions the purpose of their existence, points to the fact that perhaps life (in general) doesn't have one and this is forgotten only in our attempts to infuse it with meaning. 2) At the same time, everything that we can say has a meaning *actually doesn't* from an outside perspective - money is a human concept, there's no intrinsic value to it. Family is a human concept, no intrinsic purpose to it except survival. But even survival is a concept for a species, and so we see naturally that life doesn't come with an instruction manual and a list of purposes; there is no intrinsic purpose to life. 3) Philosophy is only a relative understanding that our species has; science is just a language and a method that we have created. They're both damn good at what they do, but ultimately all their purposes are defined by humans; life intrinsically has no meaning, but it is in a human's hand whether to infuse it with one or not.
@@sagar65265 "If we say life is absurd, it need not be through the study of philosophy and science; the simple fact that almost every human, at some point or the other, questions the purpose of their existence" Questioning the purpose of existence is actually the very definition of philosophy. If you do that, then you are, indeed studying philosophy. "Family has no intrinsic purpose except survival." Well then it does have one intrinsic purpose, and that means it is not fundamentally absurd. "Philosophy is just a relative understanding we have." I would disagree with this. Philosophers are some of the few academics who can actually prove something beyond a shadow of a doubt. We know there can be no such thing as a married bachelor through the study of philosophy. We know this beyond a shadow of a doubt. It is not relative.
My interpretation of it is that it removes all value from responsibility and consequence. Do something bad and you’ll be punished, it’s not an escape in that sense. But it does imply that the action and consequence don’t matter. They have no grand effect, they are just occurrences. It’s more the way you look at occurrences, will you look at a prison sentence as a meaningful event that has some purpose or will you realise it is just one tiny event in the world during a minuscule slice of time that only few ever witness. Will you realise it doesn’t matter. Anyone this prison sentence affects will eventually die and it’s influence disappear and be forgotten. The crime you committed to be sentenced still exists and you were still punished, but will you now see this as impactful or meaningless it really is, life would say it’s meaningless. Will you realise how unimportant the human experience is?
no no no no, finding your own meaning is existentialism. absurdism is not finding a meaning but existing despite not having one because what the heck why not
