Description:
I’ve spent most of my adult life chasing a kind of certainty : the belief that people are susceptible to beauty, emotion and compassion.
Fundamental to this belief is what the French call existential engagement. Whenever I read or watch something, I take it seriously. If I read a text in philosophy or ethics, I’ll consider whether it is something I should take on board in my own life. Routinely, I read things that reshape my world view, demolishing my old life, making me rebuild it from the rubble. The most recent example is 19th century German romanticism, which helped me consider various different ways of romanticizing the world, bringing back a colour to things I didn’t know I had lost.
This kind of existential engagement is an imperative, for to live is to perceive.
If I value existential engagement, then most of the imperative of modern life seems to diverge in the opposite direction, towards existential detachment.

Look for the source of existential thoughts. Where might they come from? Trauma. Blight. Unhappiness. Uncomfortable. Theres a million words for the root cause. Negative emotions breed Negative thoughts. Humans by design search for comfort. Broken families and tragic events create the most brilliant people. Mortality shines the light on the other side. Comfort creates an illusion of safety. Acceptance without thought. But children these days are being pumped full of happiness. The phones. Its all so empty. The most unspoken truth. Its changing how humans think again. Depth is coming back. The ball is rolling. 17th century children were writing books and composing lectures. A time when history was soaked in blood. Death set in young. Existential dread prevalent. Existentialism is making a comeback because we are surrounded by emptiness, death and dispair. Not over blood or physical pain. Over exposure to knowledge. Nothing is a suprise. Nothing unseen. Nothing real. Circles. We are breeding a generation of children with a glass book of philosophy in their hands. A 5 year old a child would have an easier time navigating the internet for whatever you ask(regardless of any logical comprehension) faster than most people 40+. A new era is coming. The ball is rolling. Were picking up speed. Soon we will hit a brick wall at 100mph. Only time will tell if the wall gives or we do. But the ball is rolling. And we make our own circumstances. In due time. Were all playing the waiting game. Just enjoy the ride. Our short human experience until we return home after our date with ego.

A 5 yo child would not have access to the internet if parents decide to do so. We are in control of our life.
