I remember how it used to be vague about who launched the Nukes so the blame didn't fall on a single country but rather on all of Humanity driven by madness and paranoia.

The idea of the practicality of Fallout's post-war economy has always fascinated me. I'm really glad it was highlighted.

You should've quoted Ulysses for your conclusion. "War... War never changes. But men do, through the roads they walk." That line always stuck with me since I never heard a Fallout game rebuttal their tagline before. What he says is true though, every war always ends up the same so they never change. But people can change, it's all a matter of their experience in life.

I like when you say Mr. House didn’t take anything from anyone or start trouble but at the same time you know about Vault 21 and Doc Mitchell

The ending leaves one question: Who decides what counts as making trouble?

Mmm, I think you may be missing a lot of New Vegas' commentary on the flaws of Mr. House's ideology. Mr. House happily let Free Side and West Side suffer so he could protect his golden tower and profits. And his "don't get in my way" attitude means he wipes out the Kings if they worked with the NCR trying to improve the material conditions in Free Side and puts authoritarian surveillance on Prim. All of the choices have major downsides but an independent Vegas is the only thing that prevents hierarchical control from powerful factions. It sucks because you don't have enough resources to keep everything together but it's better to not have enough and build up than be under the thumb of neoliberalism or autocracy. Actually you can even still choose house as the "least bad" but it still is disingenuous to paint him as moral and ethical. Ulysses and Arcade make that very clear if you need to be told it directly by the game.

I particularly like the way you connect the Fallout World with the actual world, and the Real Horror that awaits us if we do not realise what our madness could lead us to. you have achieved something of Value. The presentation of the ideas and the aesthetic behind Fallout is very well made and I can seee this easily playing at some university class. Great video, it is almost like I am watching real world history, the emotion it produces is also top tier.

This is am incredibly good video. Humanity had so many opportunities to get along yet opted to fight Every faction in fallout, even the raiders (although less) want to survive and form new societies. They with the exception of raiders have each ideologies that feature the good and bad in humanity Fallout is an incredible franchise

Great channel and video; however, I would disagree that Mr. House is the best choice in Fallout New Vegas. First of all, Mr. House prematurely fights with possible threats - while standing by his side, you don't have a choice to spare the Mojave Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel, although it is isolated and doesn't pose any significant threat to any more substantial faction - to Mr. House, just the existence of someone with comparable technological power is a threat, which must be dealt with. Another problem with siding with Mr. House is his plans - Mr. House intends to create his own, small, technologically superior superstate while not caring for others - doors to his "heaven on Earth" would be open to everyone who would pose skill or wealth, desired by him. While Mr.House doesn't seem to harras inferior to him, he does leave those more vulnerable people to their own fate. It may not sound that bad at a glance, but we have to realize that most Wastelanders are not as talented as the Courier, and because of it, they require external protection to keep themselves alive. The NCR may seem to be a wrong choice at first. Still, under its flaws, it poses many positive values which are unique to it - the NCR provides free healthcare and primary education, they are the only major faction that patrols and protects roads and merchants between settlements in the first place (Ceasar's Legion doesn't do it because The Legion discourages raiders from looting by sheer terror and fear, not actual protection). And last but not least - what happens to New Vegas after House's death? He's not immortal, and for sure, he'll die one day. What happens then? Who would take control over his state after him? The NCR is corrupt and full of many flaws, but at the same time, it guarantees the continuity of law and order - the death of the leader doesn't mean that the state's integrity is in danger because he can be easily replaced by others. The same problem is with the Legion - the death of Ceasar would quickly lead to internal conflict between different legionnaires, fighting for power. Sure, Lanius would probably win, but at the same time, he's not as wise and as respected as Ceaser is. His rule would eventually lead to the fall of the Legion. That is why I believe that the New California Republic is the best possible faction - despite its flaws, it holds universal ideas worth fighting for. It accepts ghouls and super mutants into its society. It provides healthcare and education while also maintaining the relative rule of law and order. It has a strong and powerful military capable of fighting with even more technologically advanced factions, such as the Brotherhood of Steel. It resembles the Old World and its values, the dream for a better future, and hope that the human civilization will overcome the Great War's effects. It provides expectance for the return to the old, pleasanter days, maybe even more appealing than before the Resources Wars.

I absolutely love the writing of Fnv and how each big faction is repeating the mistakes of the old world, How the Ncr is pupeted by Brahmin Brahmins and corrupt officials just like how Cold War america was run by large scale corporations which led to it becoming a totalitarian nation where fear was their greatest weapon. Ceaser also seems not to remember that the death of the real Caesar caused a mass fracture of the state, even if ceaser wasn’t killed early either by cancer or the courier, he is old and when he dies that power vacuum and the death of the man the legion worship will lead to an eventual crumbling of the legion.

This is still my go to video on fallout new Veges

Fallout 4 would have been better if the institute synths and Railroad were minor factions or perhaps just the focus of the first act and was instead Minute men vs the brotherhood allowing you to choose which faction you would support. With the options being Brotherhoods more stable and technologically advanced forces keeping the peace but at the cost of having a borderline Militaristic rule,The minute men with their disadvantages technologically and tactics wise but the more libertine "Keep your rifle by your side." Militia with each settlement working together allowing more freedom but also allowing the potential of amore corrupt and self serving rule or the third "evil" option destroy or force out both factions and leave everyone to fend for themselves wasteland and as a character from pre war America you would have the most unique perspective. Side with the minute men bring back a semblance of the world despite the issues that brought with it or turn away from it embrace the brotherhoods idea that sometimes humanity needs to be saved from itself. I get they teased synths in 3 and the while synth institute thing is interesting making it the crux of 4 was really lame as its a very played out idea the whole is "AI" alive thing.

Well made vid, I enjoyed it. odd how you mentioned the rise of technological control and mass surveillance during peak liberal democracy and you (rightfully) portray it in a negative light, but fail to bring up the very same concern that the citizens of Freeside and Westside have with House & his Securitrons. A surveillance state is not freedom, and they know it. There's even a soundfile in the game somewhere for Freeside settlers saying "Freeside isn't perfect, but it beats being watched by robots 24/7"

I just played NV for the first time, and as far as I understood Nightkin were the result of the elite of the masters army (wich looked just like any other mutant) who were allowed to use stealthboys becoming addicts to it and turning into paranoids and getting that blue skin colour. But they weren't a deferent kind of mutant from the start

I just had a sleep paralysis or the worst nightmare listening to this. I don't care what this video is about, I feel like I've been trying to turn it off for hours, trying to scream for help while whatever the hell this was tried to brainwash me.

Part of what makes FNV so compelling is all 4 endings / faction choices all have flaws, House included. The dude orders the brotherhood of steel destroyed (who in-game express no interest in new vegas) based on the presumption they COULD be a future threat. When you press him on why, his reasons are kinda petty and bullshit, calling them techno-fetishists (rich coming from the dude with robot concubines) for that and other reasons, he's a hypocrite. Even how he handles the kings if you work out peace with them and the NCR, (its not like they got into a military alliance, just working out peace in freeside, the violence being Pacers doing btw, not even The King) Hoover Dam isnt his, he didnt build it, and yet should he control it, the rates he charges the NCR are extortionist, hell, him taxing Primm out of spite because it was temporarily under martial law is ridiculous. Mr house talks a big game about progress, but, he is making the exact same mistake as every so called "honest, good natured" old-world capitalist. Progress, for who exactly? the fucking Garret Twins are more altruistic in helping out the Followers of the Apocalypse in mutual exchange then he shows any evidence in game towards doing so, hell, i wouldn't be surprised if he murders them all for putting a bug on his network, or if he found out one of them helped Benny create Yes Man,(alas that's not in game) House might have the potential to help people in the long run, sure, but only as a byproduct of personal profit. Lets not forget how he generates his current revenue, gambling and tourism, which does not improve material conditions at all, he could do so much more for people, but, if there isn't profit in it, House is disincentivized. (side note: House is just about as self-made as Howard Hughes, which is to say, not at all, they both had wealthy parents, which afforded them opportunities growing up that others do not) i love the rant he goes on if you refuse to give him the chip, on an on about "MY PROPERTY!" violence and cohesion via capital /monetization is still a form of an abuse of power, no better than Caesers more "honest" brutality, or the Snake-like imperialism and corrupt bureaucracy of the NCR. House reminds me of António de Oliveira Salazar, an autocratic dictator of Portugal with a powerful secret police, and also a founding member of NATO, who had some good, and some bad policy. A legacy really hard to pin down as "good or bad" Salazars Hoover dam was the colonies. well he did make Portugal economically stable, you have to question if war, censorship, political imprisonment and torture etc was worth the "progress". Great video btw, i just finished FNV again, and i want to like house, i want to believe he is what's best for the Mojave, i just cant though, and your comment section has served me well as a place to dump my rant lol
