This video is an analysis of the design and hidden meaning of Pac-man. Video games are fundamentally a symbolic medium, and so in this video, I aim to use an entertaining way to introduce semiotics and how it can help us read games in their pure language. I go over the design, the ai and the symbolically encoded meaning of pac man , and how it transformed our industry in numerous ways.

You know what Pac stands for? PAC. Program and Control. He’s Program and Control Man. The whole thing’s a metaphor. All he can do is consume. He’s pursued by demons that are probably just in his own head. And even if he does manage to escape by slipping out one side of the maze, what happens? He comes right back in the other side. People think it’s a happy game. It’s not a happy game. It’s a fucking nightmare world. And the worst thing is? It’s real and we live in it.

It's all code. If you listen closely, you can hear the numbers. There's a cosmic flowchart that dictates where you can and where you can't go. I've given you the knowledge. I've set you free. Do you understand?

Nice video, however I felt like some pictures that you used could've been in higher quality. Some were very pixelated. I'm sure there are thousands of HD stock pictures on google of most of the poor quality pictures you used.

Here is my interpretation of Pac-Man (mainly based on championship edition2) PAC is one of the last survivors of a space shuttle disaster The ghost of the lives lost still remain Including pacs 4 friends they roam freely once pac enters the shuttle Pacs friends attempt to drag him into the afterlife as pac runs he awakes more of the souls who follow the specters following pac

you're right but it's not about how the creator wanted it to be. it's about evaluation interpretation of something as a symbol that your brain got to know in your life.

Interpretation of art is always done from a subjective perspective. So the question is allways: "What tells this artwork to mee" not "what did the artist wanted to say" that's something school's are mostly telling you wrong

Everything is symbols, it doesn't matter if it's consciously intentional or not. Humans know through symbols/icons, we can conceptualize our self only because we use symbols.
