This was fantastic this takes me back I used to sit on our carpet hope to take me on magical journeys it never did sadly thankyou so much for this happy memory
Omg I loved this! At the end of the series, I went up to my bedroom and cleared a space for the carpet to alight on my bedroom floor, and that the phoenix would be my friend. Didn't happen, did it? Story of my life. I'm 53 now. Finally getting it.
I loved this show as a child but all i could remember was the Phoenix & his voice , I forgot about every other person in the show which surprised me . Thanks for sharing 🙂
I loved this program when i was at Primary school i was about 8/9 when it came out. My friend Louises Dad had something to do with the Fire Dept on this program something like a design of a plaque etc etc i remember her telling me.
I saw this series when it was broadcast and the actors were awesome Gary Russell Cyril has left acting but is still connected with television and I have met Gary twice in real life at two sci-fi cons.
Lovely story I think I did something similar. I remember being very aware it was the end of the series and I was super sad as a kid. I can still remember. Intrigued to have finally found it.
I remember watching this with my grade 3 class at school. It captured me back then and has stayed with me all these years until I thought to check it out on RU-vid. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
I remember this being shown on a Wednesday afternoon, there was one time when I was at my friends house after school , this came on and about 5 minutes into it there was a power cut. I remember walking home and there were no street lights or anything on. The only lights were from the cars driving along various roads.
I am from Italy, many of the best series I remember as a children there were British. The ones I found out again are The Phoenix and The Carpet, Bagpuss, Worzel, and of course, Doctor Who. I am also searching for another series that was broadcast in the afternoon, it was a science-fiction series (I think) which had some sort of human-like extraterrestrial dressed in a white tunic or something. They were strange in a fascinating way (as all these series were) and at the end of each episode they looked at a globe or something. They looked like extraterrestrial hippies or something. Another series had a girl with a magic beetle. Please let me know the titles if you know them. Thanks!

Those strange things that lurk at the back of our subconscious until something gives it a kick. This was pre video so who knows how they ever got it into RU-vid?
I remember watching this when I was 7 years old!! I really loved this programme and was abit obsessed over it! It brought back a lot of childhood memories!! Is this programme available on DVD? I really must have it!! Thanks very much!!
The original 1976 series was released on DVD by BBC video a few years back. I'm sure you can get it still on DVD if you go to Amazon, although if its out of print you may still be able to get a used copy from a reseller. Make sure you get the 1976 version though as the series was remade in 1997, also by the BBC.
I think it was on the same day as whacky races and The Goodies (lucky if I was allowed to watch). I'd watch it having my tea (afternoon meal after school) which if was lucky was Heinz ravioli on toast - happy days.
