Another great year at The Photography Show, some very exciting film photography offerings on show!
This is a long one, so feel free to skip to sections that you want to watch:
0:00 - Start
1:26 - Paterson Photographic, lighting and Benbo Tripods
8:57 - Zone Imaging, 510 Pyro and EcoZone Fix
14:25 - thisishowIroll, re-rolling motion picture film stock for 35mm and 120
19:16 - Intrepid Camera, new colours, 4x5 film holder and LENS!
28:52 - Alfie Cameras, the Tych and beyond
33:23 - KingJoy Tripods and Marcus from Online Photography
38:16 - Vintage Visual and the AGO film processor
41:37 - Ilford and Harman, Phoenix film and when we can expect 120!
Highlights for me:
Ilford Photo / Harman Photo - Phoenix will hopefully be coming out soon in 120, and it's likely to get updated pretty soon, probably early next year!
www.harmanphoto.co.uk/phoenix
Paterson - who knew that they made all this stuff?? They've got a whole range of constant lighting options, and they also make Benbo tripods, which is a totally new (or old, depending on whether you knew about it in the 80s!) take on tripods! Pretty keen to give one of their Benbo tripods a go, and they're really reasonably priced compared to competitors capable of taking similar weights. Definitely worth a look.
patersonphotographic.com
Zone imaging - the long awaited new developer will be appearing as a Kickstarter pretty soon, watch out for updates!
zoneimaging-photochemicals.co.uk
This is How I Roll - re-rolling motion picture film stock for stills shooters, also imminently releasing 120 rolls.
thisishowirollfilm.co.uk
Alfie Cameras - TYCH! TYCH! COME AND GET YOUR TYCH!
alfiecameras.com
Intrepid Camera - have launched a 4x5 film holder, and it feels pretty solid. Nicely made and confidence inspiring. Definitely worth a look. PLUS they're going to be releasing a lens pretty soon it sounds like. Potentially the first 4x5 lens to be released in 30+ years?
intrepidcamera.co.uk
Kingjoy Tripods - a pretty sound bet for those of you who use cameras that are way too big for pretty much every tripod in the world...
www.kingjoyofficial.com
And check out the awesome Marcus who gave us the Kingjoy tour:
/ @photographyonline
The AGO film processor, which I think was on IndieGoGo, and turns your Paterson tank into a rotary tank... amazing if that's what you're after. Definitely worth a little look.

This Is How We Roll looks like a good guy with an entrepreneurial spirit! Making a variety of ECN film available. Nice report, Nick!

Benbo, best tripod on the planet! Especially for outdoors. Had my Benbo One since the 80's.

Get a "Benbo One" and do a review. Be mechanically sympathetic, don't fight with it. You should be okay. Ideal for heavier 120 cameras. The smaller "Benbo Trekker" is for point and shoots. Too small for your needs. You can place it anywhere, and I mean anywhere, one leg high on a chair the other leg in a river and right down on the deck! You'll be roaming around the house looking for awkward places to practice on lol. Well priced as well. Beats the hell out of everything else. Takes any 1/4 or 3/8 head. Spares are available from Paterson. Mines been good for 35 years of heavy pro use, only had to replace the rubber spiked feet for about 12 quid.@@the120ist

Another great insight into the film industry! After all that hard work you did filming, any freebies? Lol

Glad to hear the compact enlarger is doing well. It's definitely a big compromise, but I really don't think I'd be printing if it didn't exist (my entire setup is in a small box under my desk) Re: the 4x5 lens! Wow! That's pretty amazing. If that pans out, I wonder if they'll consider offering an enlarger lens, it would make a lot sense

The ability to pack away a darkroom really opens it up to so many more people right? I have my garage for my darkroom, but I still have to pack it away after each session, and return it to being just a garage! The lens is exciting, and with an electronic shutter as well. Will be fascinated to see updates on that. They seem set on releasing it, so it will almost certainly be coming soon. I wouldn't be surprised if an enlarger lens comes along as well. Intrepid seem keen to be a one-stop-shop for all your LF needs!

That’s a huge tripod, Nick! I’m wondering how one sets up the camera focusing and aperture on a tripod 7 feet tall? Is there something I’m missing? I love the dedication of the gentleman you were talking to: he tests them in the rough Scottish weather then he approves it! 💪🏻
@the120ist
@the120ist 4 месяца назад
Ridiculously big!!! Marcus is quite a bit taller than me, but still. He was explaining it that he photographs on the rough terrain of the Isle of Skye, and if he's on a steep slope then he can have one leg 2-3ft shorter than the other two, to accommodate the slope, and can also then be standing 2-3ft higher than the short leg of the tripod. So he uses the extra length to accommodate that. It's a really really nice tripod though, so solid and stable!

Making my way through your video now, Nick! Is Paterson going to make reels for 110 film? This seems to be missing from their product line. Let me know if you saw anything on 110 reels. Thanks! Anthony

How about alphie makes a holga killer? Hmmm. Real parts, decent enough lenses, and somewhat reliable, still basic wind on 120?

I think Dave has his sights set on more complex cameras! And as far as I know, his plans don't include 120, sadly! Not yet anyway!

Ah yes, I knew I'd seen it somewhere. I wonder how they can do it, but Peter can't. Who knows!

@@the120ist I think it's because they have an agreement with Kodak, so they can get it directly from Kodak, it's not perforated, it's made custom for Cinestill. Oher people have to buy the perforated 65mm motion picture stocks, so if they do not sell it to the public but only to few selected directors/DP, we can't get it :(

Why don't Patterson market Benbo tripods in the US? I took mine there and all my American friends were asking me what it was a where did I get it.
@the120ist
@the120ist 4 месяца назад
They don't really seem to market them much at all! I cut most of the business chat out of this, but Richard was telling me about the set up over there, and they're a manufacturing company that has quite a few brands. But if you owned the Paterson brand, then I guess that kind of runs itself?? Maybe marketing falls low on the list of overall priorities?

All I can say is get your hands on a Benbo One, (the big one) it's perfect for my RB67 and Cambo monorail. Some people struggle with them , secret is to slacken it off, grab it by the neck, shake it about a bit and it finds it's own way. Macro buttercups with a RB67 are easy. It weighs nine pounds so not for lightweights, I carry it on a gunsling.@@the120ist

Get a Benbo ONE and put a hefty camera on it, like a big Bronnie or RB67, Ask them for a carry bag, it makes it easier to lug around.@@the120ist
