Please post a follow-up with your impressions for the TA-15 since you’ve had a gen 2 and returned gen 3. I had the gen 3 Perseus but only used twice before the fiasco (and successfully returned it as well), but never played with a gen 2 Perseus. Thanks!
You may say you don’t get nervous at tournaments but if you can’t drop like you do in Rec games nerves are playing a part. You’re just not nervous enough to feel it but it’s effecting your fine motor skills just enough to miss them short or long.
I had an eva foam paddle that I liked to mess with that I gave to an older player I play with bc he broke 3 ribs and could hardly get balls from back of court to over net. With eva everyone said it was more fun to play with him. These paddles have their place.
I play rec with Scorpeus and have a bad back and hip. They have a place. I started playing with a CoreTec Alpha which hits different but has similar power.
I enjoyed the podcast. Aizec and you are great. I made it to the kitchen. Width is more important than length. Our courts have about 3 to 3-1/2 feet behind the baseline, but one court only has about a foot to 1-1/2 feet spacing between the sidelines and a wooden wall on one side and a curtain on the other side. You either run into the wall or the curtain going for a sharp angled pickleball. I have hit an ATP, but also hit the wall or curtain afterwards. Thank you, Chris and Aizec.
If you have to choose, long is preferred over wide. But apply for the variance. It may be a pain, but it's a one-time issue. The length/width will be an issue every day forever.
Never bought a Joola paddle, but the QC issues and fast degradation have been present since gen 1. I’ll never buy their paddles which is a bummer because i loved trying the gen 2
Just built a court 65x30 with no fencing or structures and there’s plenty of room. Did a lot of dirt work so there’s very little drop off from the concrete. Used rubber shredded mulch around the perimeter over hard crushed rock fines and really like it.
I wish they could make a game similar to how detailed FIFA/EA fc was/is. It helped me understand soccer on a whole new level and I want something like that for pickleball
I have been playing with the gen 3 Perseus mod-15 for about a month now and it has that same amazing gen 3 feel combining power and touch like no other. Toned down is a good description. In my opinion, it feels less poppy and hits not quite as hard, but has more control. I thought the Magnus I had was a little more unpredictable. I actually like the mod 15 better. Maybe negligible, but my Mod 15 seems to hit slightly harder than my paddletek TKO-C 14.3
I had a Gen 3, liked it a lot, returned it, and got a refund after some hassle. I am curious about this one edition, but will wait a bit to see how it plays out. I do love the look of this one which is much nicer than the standard over-designed Joola paddles.
I still have my Gen3, but only play with it every once in a while for fun (against people who I know won’t get upset). Thinking about getting the MOD TA-15, but I’m definitely one of those you mentioned who is uncertain and not feeling too comfortable dropping another $300 with everything still unsettled! Also, have you guys thought at all about going to the PPA in Vegas during Labor Day weekend??
damn, i just bought gen3 last night and didn't have a clue at all about this issue until i see this pods. my bad i think not enough research before buy it. but as long as Indonesia don't applies USA approve in any competition, i can't go with this. thx for the information by the way....
Joola will wait, Gen 3 Magnus 14mm, core crushed after 2, 3 hour sessions. Joola was good, warrantied, but took 2 weeks to get the replacement, from filed date to warranty replacement received. Have had paddles last 3 months, till the grit wore out and no other issues.
As far as court colors go, I would strongly recommend going with different colors for outside the court, inside the court, and inside the kitchen. It makes line calls much easier when you know what color you should be seeing.
Length will be an issue you run into more often than width. You can't return a serve if you don't have enough space. You'll be returning more often than ATPing. Equivalent problem to not having enough space to deal with an overhead would be an angled wide shot causing problems without enough width. I heard the kitchen should be a dark color for visibility.
I am opposite when it comes to Mod TA 15. I am getting two as I need a back up paddle as well. Gen3 was the best paddle I ever used and idk when will Joola will come out with a similar paddle.
Length of court matters more than width. Aizec you're off your rocker 😉. If your court is too short it changes the strategy in every point of the game (serve). Lack of width only impacts points periodically
I never got on the Joola Gen 3 wagon. If it were around longer, I may have invested in one. I'm very wary of the Mod-15. For the price.. Even if I were to consider it, I'm definitely going to wait and see how it does for a few months.
Have you guys tried Pickleball Pro on the Meta Quest ? It’s fairly awesome - drills, ball machine, match play - thanks for all your work - love this pod!
On core crushing - there are still SEVERAL people in my local area that have crushed Gen 2 Perseus - crbns, etc. The 4.5+ group always gives them crap but yet they still play tourneys and everything with them hitting wild drives and speed ups right at chests/faces lol
Ask your neighbors what internet provider they use. AT&T was impossible to deal with for my Internet with the multiweek wait time then had problems running line and blamed my homebuilder. I switched to a different provider and they analyzed the situation, OKed it, and set me up within a week.
Length has been an issue in some new parks. As a 6'4" player, my serves are ruined by the fence behind me, and then I cant play back to return a deep serve. That's not even taking into consideration the safety issue of running back on a lob. The new park they built right now the street for us looks great, has 2 courts up front, 2 in back and a short fence separating the the front courts form the back courts. It's a short, rigid fence, so it's easy to run into and flip over it. 4 brand new courts ruined by bad city planning.
USAP responded to Joola's complaint in Federal Court yesterday. Please obtain and read the Motion to Dismiss. The paddles re-submitted in April failed grit and were, according to xray imaging, structurally different (extra foam) than the two prototype paddles submitted in November 2023 for USAP approval. You'll also understand why the soon-to-be- released Joola paddles have the strange names "Perseus 14mm Mod TA-15 and Perseus 16 mm Mod TA-15".
File the variance. Don’t let a grumpy neighbor make you tear it out on a technicality. For full size then asymmetrical with the fire pit. (Placement and/or shape) Though I haven’t seen the plot shape/boundaries. If you go short you’ll constantly be apologizing or welcoming players with disclaimers or promises that it will get bigger.
If you have to limit your space def reduce the length, you can prob get stats on where balls land the most, are you going with Viking colors or Timberwolves 🤪
Joola's customer service was perfect for me... Emailed them.. In 2 days had a RMA number and label to return.. Money was back on my CC 3 days after it showed delivered to them.. Couldn't have been better.. I bought directly from Joola..

Joolas customer service was awful? I kept one paddle with an extended warranty and sent one back for a refund. It was easy and very well handled…… support was great. If you want to discuss complete incompetence regarding this debacle, look no further than USAP
the game is a great example of not enough money being spent and PPA being just a money grab type of operation. Everyone involved with Professional Pickleball is just in it for the money now...

Yup! Already pre ordered it. No worry, no scare. Joola was wonderful with to customer service. Paddle won’t be delisted in the future. There are no worries. People are worried about the game evolving and want the game to be stuck in the past. These paddles were never as hot as the gearbox. Joola is just a larger company with more consumer awareness. Every company will copy soon
Gen 3s are awful for the game. People are concerned for the safety of their eyes and the ball spins so unnaturally, it's literally a cheat code to make you better
I don't think the counter speed is fair to play against. The ball would come back twice as fast without the counter attacker really doing anything but block. Even if I also had a Gen3, it's not normal and causes rallies to end abnormally. This is just IMO of course.
We have an indoor space with a practice court that is 26 x 55. ATPs are functionally impossible so if given the choice, I'd add 4 or even 6 feet to the width before touching the length. I really don't think you need to go much past 60 on the length
Love the pod. Thanks for the hard work. Also, the Mod from Joola looks so much better than the Gen 3. Joola is going to get this tech out no matter the effects to the sport.
