The Pine Barren Blues
C. Paul Evans Pedersen, Jr./Mount Misery Music, BMI
In the back-water marshes,
Where the cranberries grow.
The water takes on the color,
Of wine as it flows.
And every evening the sun's fire,
Drowns in the bays,
And all the creatures that live here,
They have their own special ways.
They're true,
These Pine Barren's Blues.
The folks that live in the Barrens,
Have a story they tell.
They say the old Leeds woman,
She bore a child from Hell.
After his birth, he took wings on,
And flew out into the night,
They say you'll still hear him screamin',
When the conditions are right.
They're true,
These Pine Barren Blues.
Out where the scrub oaks are growin',
And where the years forget time,
All the life that can happen,
Still happens deep in the Pines.
You'll see the Jack-In-The-Pulpit, and a devil or two,
And when the moonlight shines full, here,
You'll see some other things, too.
They're true.
These Pine Barren Blues.
Yes, they're true.
These Pine Barren Blues.
