The actress who plays the voice coach is simply fantastic. She is the perfect "straight woman." She knows exactly what her job is and what it isn't and does it perfectly, allowing Martin to be as crazy as he wants to be always knowing that she'll be there to anchor the scene.

Working with francophone kids as second language learners of English, the techniques are familiar, and so are the difficulties with specific sounds and consonant combinations. That it may not be as exaggerated does not take away from the fact the video is relatively accurate for the experience.
To me the part that gets me is when she says, "To" And he says, "Tooah" And then he tried to close his lips to make the "to" sound but it still slightly comes out as "tooah" LOL!!!!
I wanna see the bloopers of this one scene, because there is simply no way both of them didn't go for more than one take without busting out laughing, lol
As a native French speaker I had always watched the Pink Panther doubled in French and I never understood what was so funny about this movie outside of France. Imagine my pleasure when I watched it for the first time in English. These movies are pure gold.
@@pizzasteve5825 The French already had the culture of making police comedic movies where the policemen were not always the brightest and making fun at themselves. Thus the Pink Panther would fit right in. It simply is an inferior version when doubled in French but it fit into the culture.

I nearly died laughing watching this scene while I it was first released and now I am watching it with my 8yr old daughter and we both share the same laughter even now.
I'm impressed with her composure this whole time. They probably had to use "A" and "B" shots since an ordinary human can't keep from bursting into laughter

Even funnier is that if you just take this sentence and mix with a little bit of french... "I would like toi... I would like you." And this makes the scene even more funnier. XD
@@mattburke5491 Joey and Phoebe are top two of my favorite Friends, but that episode is one of the most hated in Friends history. Still a corny scene. Meanwhile, Steve Martin still doesn't fail to make me laugh in this one.
What makes this funnier is knowing that the French word for “you” (or “tu” in Spanish) is *“toi”* (‘twah’). I laugh the hardest at that part because it’s obvious that’s where his brain goes when she wants him to say “to” (‘tu’ ➡️ *his brain:* *'toi'* ) 😂 One of the greatest comedy scenes of all time
Well technically the French word for “you” is actually “tu” the same as Spanish. “Toi” is the object form. So a francophone would be able to pronounce “to” easily.
I'm studying english and I can say that I felt identified, hamburguer is a difficult word for me, I can't pronounce it right🙂. But, this video is so hilarious
