I lived in South Carolina for a while. The flies in the south are peskier, bigger, hungrier, and thirstier than they are in the west. They sense smells much better than the average flies. Many nights, I had a glass of milk on my nightstand, and the flies flew right into the milk in no time, but no matter how many times I let the flies out and covered up the opening under my bedroom door, the flies kept finding a way to burrow under the door, and they went straight back into the milk, swimming in it like there was no tomorrow. I can tell how hungry and thirsty those flies in the south really were, because it was 115 degrees at the peak of the summer with 100% humidity, and 95 degrees at night, but the humidity never went away, so there was no cool, fresh air for most of the year. I live back on the northwest coast now, where I'm originally from, and since the weather is much cooler with dry heat and fresh air in the summer, the flies have NEVER flown into my drink over here, ever.
