This is the Pioneer SR 60... a "Reverb Amplifier" from the late '80s/early '90s. It says "bucket brigade" right on the front. But I'm pretty sure there's an honest to goodness Spring in here. Sure sounds like it.
( ...edit: Nope. No Springs. I looked. )
Seems like a pretty stupid thing to do to your favorite Beatles Record.
But I intend to run Analogue Synths through it during Recording.
Pretty cool√

Nice! Got a few BBD devices - they all have peculiarities of some kind or another but this sounds like it can give a real nice wash of reverb. Have you tried the 'Duet' setting yet? How about fiddling with any trimmer pots inside for self oscillation?

Yes, I've played around with all three of the modes. "Reverb" is relatively subtle on sustained notes & more prominent on dynamic passages, like this full song... or something like a sequence with short Decays, wherein the notes are easily distinguishable. But it certainly has a different "flavor" than my Danelectro Spring King√ The "Echo" setting is my favorite. I uploaded some MS 20m recordings showcasing it: freesound.org/people/JohnLaVine333/ ( the first 13 uploads in the list ) "Duet" is the least noticeable by far. I guess it's a "chorus of two"? I'm certainly an extreme novice in terms of Electronics. I soldered a short in some headphones once :P ...but were I to be convinced of doing any tinkering... it would likely be with the "Duet". Pots you say? As in simply twist them & they affect a parameter? ( ...probably with a little screwdriver, right? ) I think I could manage not to botch that :P Thanks for your visit!

Listened to the freesound samples - it sounds great. The sample & hold is especially nice with the classic feel of a 1970s educational film for schools in the UK. Perhaps it's better not to mess around inside - it sounds like it's already producing a decent effect with the factory settings. Some of the BBD I've acquired have been rather tame (mostly those incorporated into mic mixers for home karaoke) but there's typically a trimmer pot on the PCB that can be used to increase the intensity of the reverb/echo with a small flat-blade screwdriver. If you do however, best to mark the current position, or take a reading of the ohmage before fiddling. Finally, if you open it up, I'd be curious to know the delay chip used. Is it a CX7932?

I've got to completely dismantle it ...but I did take the bottom plate off. There's actually a brief Video. I doubt it's very informative though. Just some fun :] If there were separate pots for Duet, Echo & Reverb... I'd whack the Duet... go fairly hard on the Reverb & leave the Echo alone. But yeah. I got lucky with this thing :] Thanks for hanging out!

Sorry my friend. It's almost certainly digital with a pt2399 chip. My erebus happens yo use a bucket brigade, too. It's amazing lo-fi but (with the midi to cv-converter) only part of the machine that isn't analog. Got to open it to find out.
@CaalamusTube
@CaalamusTube 6 лет назад
Yeah, I did open it up about an hour ago. There isn't in fact any Spring :[ ...sure sounds like it though! Especially on the "Echo" setting!!! But "Bucket Brigade" is by default Analogue. To my knowledge, there's no such thing as a "digital Bucket Brigade". You can have chips & still be Analogue. It's just not Discrete Analogue. The pt2399 chip is definitely digital. But it didn't exist when this thing was on the market. All my research suggests that the Princeton Technologies pt2399 was introduced after the year 2000. I'm pretty sure the Pioneer SR 60 is all Analog√

@CaalamusTube 6 лет назад
You know what I just found out *DOES* contain a pt2399 though? ... the Danelectro Spring King! ...in addition to having an actual Spring, it *ALSO* has a pt2399s!
@ludwigkopp8130
@ludwigkopp8130 6 лет назад
Caalamus yes. Amazing find indeed 😃 the PT2399 was actually not around at that time. My bad. The original bucket brigade circuit consists of multiple transistors. Each passing the signal to the next like water passed from person to person in a bucket to put out a fire. And this is analog. Later this was imitated by a lot cheaper and digital version that was produced in giant numbers, the PT2399 that is in almost every karaoke machine. (and my Erebus)

I think this is actually a modern, Analogue Chip version of that Transistor Array. I don't believe it's discrete. I opened it & shot some video. Maybe you will be able to spot it? I had to hold my iPod upside down & use a flashlight :P

@@IndoreJunction Well, I don't know anything about the used electronics market in your country. But there are certainly some people on ebay who ship internationally. Although I would imagine it would be far more economical to purchase something local! Good luck!

It's RCA in/out. So no, not directly. But I do have RCA to 1/8", so I spent like an hour playing my MS-20m through it. It sounds *FUCKING AWESOME!!!* ...especially on the "Echo" setting. I've got 4 RCA to 1/4" Female adapters coming in the mail tomorrow. There will be more Videos√ But in the mean time... once the moderator handles the 13 uploads, there will be examples on my FreeSound page :] freesound.org/people/JohnLaVine333/

@CaalamusTube

Obviously that's a matter of taste. Do you find that it sounds "awful" as compared to other Analogue Delays? Or do you simply not enjoy the sound of Analogue Delay?

@@CaalamusTube i think it is probably the delay/echo. Iit almost sounds to my ears like it is being played in a cave or cavern if you know what i mean? I have a technics "space dimension controller" and tbh i fell the same about that. Im a big fan of visual representation of the audio i am listening to i just dont like it to affect the music i am listening to. Is there a way to have the visual on but not to touch the audio?

@@godzilla12325 oh, I get it. You mean it sounds bad for Hi-Fi. Yeah... as noted, you're an idiot to play your favorite Beatles Record through this. I'm a Musician. I plug Synths into it.
