Came to this after them losing the first game to the Reds. After starting pitching holds it down the BP needs to look itself in the mirror because there costing the Pirates games. Yes we need more on offense but pitching is the command to keep the other team from scoring. In game 3 of the Rays series I was like leave Skenes in he is young he can pitch a full game. Put the BP in they scored 2 runs and we lost series.Today after Faulter the BP did the same thing and Reds slapped us. And the Manager Shelton has to go I’m sorry because some of these lineups are beyond me…
O's have dfaed Nick Maton, a very versatile player who can play every position except C and P. Hes a left handed bat and has been pretty consistent in the minors. At the very least the Pirates could give him a shot and send Suwinski to AAA.
The only big move that has to happen is them trading for a center fielder. The answer to center field does not appear to be in the organization. Theres a chance Gorski or Bae pan out, although unlikely. Even if Suwinski rebounds hes a corner guy. The 2 guys I would be most interested in are Daulton Varsho and Jose Siri. Either one gives you excellent defense, plus speed, some pop, etc. I think Varsho is a better fit being a lefty and a year younger, also better track record. But I would be thrilled with either. Also each team knows they can't compete with the Yankees and Orioles in division
Should the Pirates ask the Athletics about a possible trade to get JJ Bleday or Miguel Andujar? I would at least consider it. Andujar is hitting .317 with the Athletics right now, and Bleday has been one of Oakland's bright spots on a not that great hitting team. If those 2 aren't accepted then I would ask about Brent Rooker instead. A trade involving Jake Cave from the Rockies to me could also be another option as he is hitting in the .260's. Part of the problem is there are too many teams in the playoff hunt, so it can be a bit tough at this time of year to negotiate a trade. If we get to the middle of July and the Pirates are 2 or 3 games out of the wildcard I think then a deal will get done because at that point it will become more apparent which teams are sellers. A minor trade could happen before then, but I wouldn't count on a big one until mid-July or later.
The entire starting rotation, including starts from pitchers not from the original 5 starting rotation in Priester, Falter, and even throwing in Mlodzinski who starts games due to 3 starting pitcher injuries, all have an era below 5.00. The fact that they are not over .500 from this fact alone is pathetic.
