I'm actually more-so referring to how it works in conjunction with car phone holders. The Pixel phones are the only devices I use that force the volume buttons or power button to be pressed constantly when in the phone holder. Super annoying!
@@sambeckman use a magsafe car holder...... theres really a solution to every problem lmao. your just nit picking.... theres at least 20 styles of car phone holders not that hard use google search to find one.
Just a stupid rah rah lying fanboy unobjective review...real close to Samsung in price which was only good thing Piss All had going for it and had great camera which isn't so great anymore...so PISS All loses
Android 15 still projected for same release time, only the phones were released earlier than usual, no Google technically didn't fail to promise. Market materials also has the status bar icons aligned with with the front camera which is why I'd expect future software i.e. Android 15 optimized for Pixel 9 will adopt it, also given that Google is finally prioritising removing of the top bar as well as nav bar as long as apps start targeting Android 15 which will be a dream come true literally. Hence I don't think this even is the full potential of Pixel 9 as of now.
I disagree on the side rail material comment and also on the button placements. The power & volume buttons will need to stay where they are because that's how it's always been even on the later Nexus phones. And the polished side rails on the Pro looks great and more grippy. Maybe you and I got different skin types.
This year is peak year for Google Pixel 9 series. So exiting when Google announced the 9 series even the base model is so sleek. Apple just boring update with 16 series and Samsung just got settled.
The iPhone 16 Pro will have better AI integration, a significantly faster processor, and far more features than the Pixel and it isn't close. Samsung haven't released any details regarding the S25 so we really don't know. I've been burned far too many times on Pixel's in the past and I refuse to pay flagship prices for a phone slower than an iPhone 12.
@@mdc123-v2v Apple fan boy getting angry that he doesn't get the ai feature that pixel has for years are still yet to come to iphone not even in the launch date 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@mdc123-v2v agree on iOS stability and apple silicone along with great apple ecosystem is still hard to beat, but google slowly close the gap. But for AI, I am not sure Apple can compete google in this area. You can see how Siri far more behind than google assistant
@@mdc123-v2vGoogle is definitely ahead in terms of AI. Even once Apple intelligence fully launches. And Google is literally adding features and improving every week.
Got my 9 pro coming! 256 GB, trading my pixel 8 pro. I am really tired of large phones. I thought about going with the regular pixel 9 but I can't deal with the overheating due to no cooling management
Faster chip, faster storage, anti reflective diaplay, stronger gorilla glass, faster charging, titanium materials and you'll have the perfect Google Pixel Pro 10!
Aaaand a 1500 $$$ price tag... The one thing that all the reviewers keep harping on and seem to miss entirely, is the fact that due to constant inflation and $$$ printing, things such as smartphones, are never going to get cheaper. It is never again cheaper to produce, source materials, pay the workforce, etc etc. My point is, even if you personally wait for a sale and get a device cheaper months after the launch, regardless, all the new models will be released with increasingly higher price tags. That is, until another great recession hits or some other catastrophe that affects the whole world, but who will be producing and for that matter, buying expensive phones then?
@@IrenicusFTW But Chinese phones are more value with cheaper prices. It’s corporate greed my dude all taught my Apple. Pay more, give less… great business strategy for the share holders
OnePlus 12 being the same price just shows how incredible value it is. You didn't even mention the best thing about it; battery life and charging speed. Not to mention the fact that the performance is just outrageous, industry leading from Android perspective.
@AngryLad_80 I don't think the Pixel is devoid of bugs either. Speaking as a nothing phone user, and probably planning to move to the OnePlus 13 next year.
@@AngryLad_80 thank you for saying this 😭🙏 as a OP owner pre Oppo and post Oppo merge, it's been a nightmare. Old software wasn't perfect but it was clean and bug free for the most part. Once the Color OS set in on my 8T, performance fell off a cliff and it's so buggy. I doubt Pixels have the same growing pains as those first months with Color OS
One plus has turned into shit after adopting the colour OS. not to mention the green line issue and dead motherboard issue with several of their phones. One plus is 100% unreliable at this point.
I was in the same boat, i ended up just buying from a local store that had the phone and cancelled my pre-order since it wasn't shipped yet (got from bestbuy they gave me more money for my cracked pixel 6 then the google store website and $200 bestbuy gift card) Wait is definitely worth it
Absolutely right, either wait for the discounts to kick in or get a decent trade-in deal 😂. I would say not everyone needs a "top of the range" phone, there are a lot of users where the base Pixel 9 will be a brilliant phone. I was impatient and ordered the 9 Pro with 256gb (which should be base storage for a "PRO" phone) - delivery next month in the UK. I did get a pretty decent trade-in deal though 😁.
Hey, how is it delivered next month in the UK when i ordered it on the 2nd and they delivered it 2 days ago in the UK ? Mind that i am from a country where Google does not deliver directly and i had to ship it a second time to mine? :D
@b0jan0v The 128gb was available when I ordered, but the 256gb delivery had slipped to October - Google was doing a free upgrade to 256gb, but that ended last week ☹️. Guess they just ran out of 256gb phones. They've upgraded their list of trade-in phones, which is why I ordered now, rather than wait for Black Friday 😂.
Thanks, Sam. Great review - all the important issues covered. And I agree with your thoughts - I'm ready to buy a Pixel 9 Pro (best overall setup IMHO) but not at the present price, I'll hold out a while.
The 128gb storage paired with a Google One subscription for £25/year (200gb) makes the base storage a pretty compelling argument. Even for £25/year, the price difference between the 128gb & 256gb in the UK means it would only be after 4 years that this is no longer viable, by which point, many would have upgraded anyway...
I got the XL and its by far the most solid phone I've used, and I came from iphone 15 pro and after that a Samsung S24. And this one is better build, just as smooth, quick and responsive. I love it.
If you're switching from older pixel phones, the buttons placement is perfect. It's about muscle memory. If you're not used to it, it's annoying for a month or two then it's fine.
I'm more so referring to how it works in conjunction with car phone holders. The Pixel phones are the only devices that force the volume buttons or power button to be pressed constantly.
@@sambeckman yeah, that's a pain in the butt. I'm using my pixel 7 with the spigen rugged armour case and I struggle everyday with that. It is very Annoying. I take my whole comment back
Still running the vanilla Pixel 6 and I've got to say I've never noticed any performance related issues (granted, I'm not a gamer), so I don't quite understand when he said the Tensor G4 will age worse in the next 3-4 years if the Tensor 1 is still going strong 3 years after.
If they had priced the basic Pixel 9 variant at 599 or 650 max, it would have sold like hot cakes. The Pro variant (6.3'') imo should have started around 750. Google is charging way too much for the basic variant as it is.
I think $699/£699 Pixel 9 and $849/£849 for Pixel 9 Pro (and a sensible increment for the Pixel 9 Pro XL) would have made it that bit sweeter. That said, that may be where they go to in the coming months when the promo's start. It still pisses me off that we pay £899 when the US pay $899 lol. By conversion, we're more like $1,100!! 😢
I have both, 9 for work, 9P for play and I have to disagree with you on the matte siderails...I like the glossy back and dislike the touch and quality of the matte siderails. The price rants make no sense to me bcos I detest Sammy UI, pic quality,, bloatware etc and I could complain about their prices too. So its all relative.
Looking forward to your Pro review. I’m looking to get away from iPhone (I can’t deal with this keyboard). Pixels are usually my go-to, but not at this pricing. If they slapped a snapdragon in there I’d be ok with it.
I've always been a galaxy user but was thinking about switching to the pixel pro but for the same reason you've mentioned I might just end up sticking with the Galaxy ultra cos of the snapdragon processor. Would 100% get the pixel pro if it had this
Extra props for the aspect ratio of your videos!! 📷 I must be the only person to find the fingerprint sensor much worse on the Pixel 9 Pro vs my Pixel 8 pro...🤔🤔
You kept saying how much you love this phone but most of the things you mentioned in the video were negatives. It's actually put me off it as I had been contemplating switching to pixel from galaxy, not now though 😂
You think Google would invest more in producing a great camera overall considering its CPU is lagging behind other competitors. Unfortunately not. Experiencing a slight lag when changing camera modes doesn't really bother me but what does is the stuttering when changing lens and the inconsistent focus quality. The stabilization is also decent but not good.
I really appreciate the discussion about the stock launcher's lack of customizeability and the issues with third-party launchers. To me those two issues combined are a big downside to Pixel.
The rule with Pixel phones is you never buy a Pixel at launch unless there is a wild trade-in deal. they ALWAYS drop significantly in price a few months after launch. But I would take the design, 7yrs of updates & the software over OP & Samsung any day, not that the software matters because I personally use GrapheneOS which is Pixel-only regardless.
I traded in a phone I purchased for $200 unlocked and they gave me $525 for it at best buy so the Pixel 9 only cost me $300 out of pocket or $500 if you count the $200 for the device I traded in
Nice video as alway, i just wished they price the Pixel 9 at a lower price point. then go 999 for the Pro. they could've sold more i think with that price point
For me irritating stuff is the Google search bar and the at a glance widget are not removable. Hope they won't make all their apps to appear on home page and make them fixed and non removable
Hi Sam, as a fellow Aussie I'd love to get an idea of whether the reception of the Pixel 9 is better than previous versions, particularly in more iffy areas out of the city. I used to own a Pixel 7 and felt it was a bit step backwards, and ended up selling it and going back to my 4A5G which was noticeably better. Any advice you have on this side of the phone would be awesome, cheers!
you know when it come to open sorce app recommendation i always had this channel in my mind,so i kinda need your help now sam is there any open source screenshots app that could took screenshots of whatsap view once picture sam ?
About a week I will treat myself with a pixel 9 from a redmi note 10 pro wich is gonna be a really big jump lmao I know but i'm fed up with miui and I just want stock android
do you know why on videos i shoot myself dancing on the front camera (the pixel satands against a wall) the image is getting in and out of focus? I s there a solution?
The minute someone mentions UFS 4.0 in a review, you lost me. It is meaningless to 99.99% of users and probably tech youtubers are the only people that ever mention it. You loved using the phone, isn't the actual user experience what matters? Specs are useless in a vacuum, but yet here we are, "Phone is great! Don't buy it!"
All this is preference . Matt side rails don't feel great vs the pros metal... Volume and power button placement doesn't matter theres 20 varieties of different car phone holders including a magsafe option.... the hole punch camera is the most nitpicky thing ever no one will notice it unless point out by a nit picker. for example youtube watch later bar doesn't line up with your titles. Most of your video in certain scene aren't lined up perfectly Plus it doesn't look bad at all not everything needs to be perfectly aligned all the time. nothing wrong with Tensor chips 95% of the world doesn't use phones to its max potential. Y'all just text, call, go on social media and take pictures calm down. iPhone and Samsung's taking pictures are not seemless all the time ... Not many people use 128GB let alone 256gb on a phone your in a very very small group of people if your filling up that space especially of cloud..... all updates coming in a month so they don't have a buggy launch. Your also in a very very very small group of people using third party launchers.. reviews should be tethered too the mass majority thats what the phone is for. theres phones out there for the minorities . Pixels launch with Discounts from the jump, Trade in + boost store credit. free 1 year subscription to their cloud. gemini advance, Discounts all over Amazon, Bestbuy, Veriozn, AT&T, T-Mobile, Discounts for this month being their birth month, get a free bud or watch with a purchase of the phone, black friday, thanksgiving , Christmas, New Years. Pixels been out for 9 devices and this happens every year. no one has ever paid full price for the phone lmao. Google search pixel deals it's really not that hard. for all the nit picking of small things you think you would include very basic things of deal all over the place right in your face. if you want to know how to make a real life review check out " Shevon Salmon- Google Pixel 9 Pro XL - Real Day In The Life Review (Battery & Camera Test) is a real human review. Not some Robot processor that nit picks "
I'm waiting till Pixel 10 to buy one as my secondary phone. Currently main phone is S24. I want to wait for next gen of tensor chip to be made by TSMC instead of Samsung, that would bring tons of improvement.
Sam! I updated the IOS on my phone and now the background I setup with dark and light mode switching is broken. I think we need an update guide from you on this!
Hearing a lot of people are experiencing the same scrolling stutter and lag that the 8 had. I would love one but worried about that issue as it's the reason I got rid of my P8.
I have a pixel 8 and the one thing nobody talks about is the horrible modem inside the pixels, if you are fine with scavenging for a better reception and then watch a RU-vid video at 144p while your friend sitting beside you with a 200$ samsung is streaming HDR on Netflix in the same damn room, go ahead buy a Pixel 9 (they are using the same modem lol XD)
Just a comment In terms of shutter lag, have you tried to disable the additional detail for social media setting? When it's set to on the phone needs additional time to process a photo due to creating a 3D profile to use to certain apps. Disabling it on my Pixel7 has massively decreased the lag. Also why everyone seems to ignore that on Pixel9 you can take a 4k video and then pick any frame you need and the phone will create a proper HDR image? I use it all the time and it's better than just taking a photo.
Feel like the comparison between "fluidity" between 3rd party/1st party launchers is such a huge nitpick since there's barely any difference at all. Pixel 9 prices on Swappa are already half MSRP
Too expensive. One thing I didn't see you mention is whether it has a curved screen or not. My Pixel 7 Pro has a curved screen and it's absolutely dreadful. I hate it.
I have the pixel 8. I've had Samsung and apple flagships, why is it anytime a new flagship comes out the previous one gets glitchy? Even when I don't do the new update
It's a Pixel. It's absolutely gonna crash with it's pricing in a few months. It's already at 10K INR cashback for the 9 series here in India! And no 128GB models.
Previously it was the Galaxy S24, but from now until the end of the year I'll be dailying whichever phone I'm reviewing. Not worth the hassle of switching back and forth!
@@sambeckman Yes I went through the setttings and it is enabled. Note that it was a demo unit. Apparently Google did the same thing on Pixel 8 series. Intentionally limit the cheaper model on display to upsell the Pro/XL?
I said I'll stop using them long term... I'll still always review them. But the improvement with third party launchers has made me reconsider this stance.
