A drug called Truvada is the first the FDA approved means of preventing HIV infection. If an HIV-negative person takes the pill every day, they're nearly 99% protected from contracting the virus. The thing that pissed me off is the notion that the guy now has and more or less advocates for condom-less sex after being on PrEp. HIV is not the only incurable STD that's out there. There's genital warts, herpes and antibiotic resistant gonorrhea. Also I don't know about anyone else, regardless of whether it's completely reversible I still don't want syphilis.

Michael Lamar Simeon Agreed, it is a shame that somebody who is potentially making such a positive contribution through support of PREP is totally irresponsible about condom use. I also felt the newscast is so far rather misrepresenting the issue. Gay men and black people are the most affected by HIV in the US, which accounts for ~3% of all cases globally. *Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, Fact Sheet 1 July 1996, Page 2:* "Heterosexual (male-female) intercourse accounts for more than 70% of all adult HIV infections to date and homosexual (male-male) intercourse for a further 5-10%."

Michael Lamar Simeon I have to agree. Truvada has proven very effective in repressing HIV in the bloodstream but it's still there hiding in the bone marrow and other places in your body. The millisecond someone stops taking it it comes back with a vengeance. These later-generation HIV drugs are better but still very toxic for the body. Asking everyone to take it is is not a good idea. Throwing off social responsibility is even worse.

They say they can isolate HIV, and measure "viral loads" with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. But why is it that the scientist who won a Nobel Prize for inventing the PCR test, Kary Mullis, says HIV does not cause AIDS? Dr. Peter Duesberg was the first scientist to isolate the cancer gene. He was also the first scientist to discover and map out the genome sequence of the retrovirus. He agrees that HIV does not cause AIDS. Also, Dr. Rodney Richards, one of the first scientists to create the first HIV antibody test, disagrees with the "HIV causes AIDS" hypothesis. Ettiene de Harven, published first images of budding virus through EM, and he does not agree with the HIV hypothesis. Even Luc Montagnier, who won a Nobel Prize in 2007 for supposedly discovering HIV, publicly announced at the 1990 AIDS conference that HIV did not, after all, kill T-cells and could not be the cause of AIDS. Montagnier also admitted on French TV, in 1997, that he never isolated the virus - and neither has anyone else. (rethinkingaids)on Facebook

Yes, answering your question Syphilis is very easily cured nowadays! 😉, almost like chlamydia, you could put it that way, things get a bit trickier tho when we start going to Hep C, that’s a much more tougher one to cure at times (like in 30% of cases)! Did u know that the United states once exposed African Americans to syphilis on purpose to study the development of the virus? Sounds crazy I know but look into it. Dee Jay Yes and no. Most schools only teach safe sex practises for heterosexuals. For example, a condom isn't much use to a lesbian couple, instead things like dental dams would be useful. But because most schools don't teach about sex between two males or two females, it's harder for people in the LGBT community to learn safe sex practises that they will require.

***** Its not good. Ima be straight up with you. Iam only 22 and i have had sex with about 8 different women and i contracted HPV at 20. HPV is the most common STD btw. If you haven't got HPV out of all STD then consider yourself lucky. You think its all cool because you are young but right when you contract you will see it was stupid and all casual sex leads to is STDS , children you don't want and many other bad things you can come up with , but you probably can't come up with much bad things because you thinking it is cool. Everybody is going to regret it . Sex addiction is bad and it messes up your head. Don't believe me. Just get a sex addiction and see how it changes your life and not in a good way. I think this is a GREAT idea if only the cost was less expensive!! I see so many comments about just simply having safe sex but half of the people I know who tested positive were married or in long term relationships. A pill everyday?? No thank you. I mean it's great the HIV treatments keep advancing, but I'm sooo happy me and my fiancé have both been waiting to have sex till marriage. We will be our firsts' and will never have to worry about this or STD's, ever. I don't want to force my choice on ppl but let me tell you living in fear or taking a expensive pill everyday forever isn't the way to live. Don't be so naive. I watched a documentary about HIV 2 women and one man who all got it because they trusted their partners.Both ladies were married one sadly found out when she was pregnant. The man was straight. They thought not me no way. Sadly it can to anyone. Even if your monogamous doesn't mean your partner is. Forever is a long time and even good people split. Also, millions of women take a pill a day for birth control, millions of men.and.women take a pill a day when taking their multivitamins, how is this any different? Its a pill a day for those who are high risk for contracting this. In the UK this has been approved with justification given that it will be used for Sero discordant couples, yet at the same time we hear that positive people on effective therapy have zero transmission rate. So one contradicts the other. Prep is expensive, and it has been approved in the UK purely to set the scene for classifying HIV as a 'self inflicted' condition like cancer from smoking. The U.K. Gov plans to axe the funding of HIV meds,many PREP nicely sets the scene to make this possible.

There was something that bothered me about the widespread use of (only) Truvada and the possible effect it would have on the spread of other STIs. And my concern was confirmed when Damon (Truvada activist) says that he actively chooses to have unprotected sex with men! This not only exposes him and others to HIV if Truvada fails to protect him. But it also has the potential to spread other STIs. I just can't believe that he has a doctor who is enabling him.

I used truvada for about 2 years with stocrin , but now I'm only taking a tablet per day , truvada for me was a nightmare 20 minutes after a take I was like burning inside, was 2 years suffering , now everything as change I never felt better .

Jake SImmons It's a reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Transcriptases are enzymes whose structures are largely preserved between humans and bacteria. So it blocks something so fundamental to virus metabolism that it would have a very hard time evolving to change it.

This is good progression . However when he said he does not use condoms any more with anyone is just ridiculous . People with hiv and aids are living longer , you don't have to be a bad person or gay or a drug user to get this disease . Some people are born with it . It is our responsibility to create a better future and this is a step in the right direction .

After watching parts 1 through 3 I can't help but ask. Why is HIV predominantly a homosexual male issue? I must say that I'm not homophobic, just uninformed about the issue. This is an honest question.
