Should it be called the Playstation Portal or the Lamestation Gorbel... umm yeah. Anyway here's an honest review of this bad boy straight out the box. Is it worth getting? Watch the video dude I'll tell you.
There are a few things I figured I should note that I didn't think to include in the video. First, there is no touch pad button in the center of the controller so you simulate pressing this button by tapping the screen. It works well.
It also charges using a USB Type C cable which I figure was assumed since I mentioned it was in the box, but I figured I should mention it here. The charge port is on the back center of the unit and is out of the way.
After playing with the device all day I can say that the battery life appears to be decent. I played on it the entirety of the afternoon and evening before it needed to be charged. I might have gotten perhaps 6 hours on it or so before needing to recharge. That's not bad, and that was also the first time I charged it even after trying to set it up the night previously all night.
It also has rumble and haptic triggers just like the OG PS5 controller.
I think that about covers it. I hope you enjoy the video!

I have my router hooked up to ethernet and I stayed somewhere 100 miles away from my house and had zero issues whatsoever with absolutely no lag. A lot of people complain about this thing, but if you know what you’re buying, it’s all good. I asked myself. If I had a switch, what I play it outside or at a bookstore or coffee shop? No. So none of that matters to me at all.

I agree with you. After all the shit got sorted out and the PSN went back online, I've been using this thing nonstop since I got it. I've beaten Shantae and the Seven Sirens playing it exclusively on the device and I'm at the end of Astro Bot, playing the last half of the game using this and experiencing zero issues with lag or anything of the like. As you can tell by the video I was super turned off by this thing when I first got it, but once it connected and did its thing, It's a great product. You mentioned the Switch... thats essentially what this device is. It turns your PS5 into a Switch. Anyone reading this, if that sounds like something you'd like, consider giving this a shot.

tried it with top of the line residential wifi while doing all the tips and tricks and the input lag was still not fun and noticeable to me. It may be to the minority that's used to 120hz+ displays and is used to minimal input lag

I wonder why things like this pop up. Obviously I had issues with it, but once it connected and worked as it should I'm almost positive I can't notice any input lag whatsoever. I've even tested it, playing Shantae which is a 2D platformer, I would push the jump button repeatedly and try to notice how long it took for her to respond to the input. I can't tell a single difference between playing on the Portal or on my PS5, but that's the nature of streaming. No matter what anyone does, there is going to be problems. And like I said at the start of this post and in my video, I know I had fucking problems with this thing lol. But now that it connected I am having zero issues with it.

Whole device becoming useless when stick drift starts is enough to keep me away from this. I wish they made it like their Pro controller with some back buttons and changeable joysticks.

Is that a known problem with the Portal? I'm curious to know. The analog sticks are different from an actual controller, they're smaller so it might be a different case. Obviously this unit is new to me I haven't experienced any issues.

What If your PS5 dies? will it be a brick then because it is linked to that PS5? And yeah if Playstation network ever goes down and it won't work that sucks whale shlong.... At least with Switch, you can keep games on it or mod it if Nintendo ever stops supporting it... I hope this thing works out for you if you keep it because the general idea here is a good one but the details of how it connects are kind of scary. Great video as always!!!!

You can connect to your other ps5
@nastybedazzler

Thomas- It will link to whatever PS5 you want it to link to but it is at the mercy of that PS5 and it can only do what that PS5 can do. It can only play whatever games that PS5 can play. If you are playing a game on a disc, that disc better be in the PS5. It's limited but it's exactly what I wanted and that's why I bought it. Essentially the Portal turns the PS5 into a WII U. A lot of people compare it to the Switch but honestly it's more like the WII U, it's probably better to just keep it at the house. So far though, even though I show a lot of doubts in the video, after playing with it for a week I've really grown to like it. When it finally works, it works REALLY great. I've not had a single problem with it since I got it to connect to my PS5. And lag is a thing I don't think I've noticed whatsoever.

@@nastybedazzler when it works it’s great, i like the ergonomics of the portal compared to my rog ally x. And the screen looks very good
@nastybedazzler
@nastybedazzler День назад
@@Arctis326 I agree. People bitched it wasn't an OLED I legit can't even tell the difference. For an lcd screen it's probably the best I've seen. I'll probably do a follow up review video to this one eventually since this video was more or less a first impressions video but since I've made this I've grown very fond of this device. I think there's a lot of naysayers out there and I think their opinions are valid, but theres a lot of great things to be said about this if you use it in the right conditions.
