This week we battled the heat and steering issues and Make our way across the Plenty Hwy into the Northern Territory. It's over 800km most of which is dirt, but with the lack of traffic it's a fantastic way across the outback.
@@jimmyohara2601 I see that as ordinary people driving a 20 year old car, not like some who have major sponsors and every year or two get a new $100k plus caravan and highly modified for touring Landcruiser, Amazon, or Ford Everest.
Thanks for the channel guys we love it, we have been having family games nights then settle in for our weekly fix of goingoverland.. keep them coming 😁
Awesome vid guys. Lovely adventures and keeping it real. Lifetime of memories. Glad stumbled upon your channel. The drone shots are outta this world. Thanks for sharing
It's also the hardest! In sports mode, the signal is blocked by the car and I can not see what the drone is doing the whole time. But your right, the look pretty good
The Plenty Hwy has been upgraded somewhat since I travelled it in 1976! Looks like the kids are enjoying it. We travelled from Mt Isa. No fuel anywhere for the section from Urandangi to Alice Springs, no sealed sections till reaching the Stuart Hwy, nothing and no-one along the way. Lots of deep bulldust and no sections of the road were raised above the surrounding land, like it is now. Looks like a piece of cake now! We also camped at Henley Craters but we drove the cars into the bottom of the largest crater and spend the night there. It's a bit different these days!
Awesome video guys loving it . Can you do a rig rundown especially your patrol what engine,12volt .. etc and camping tips what to bring for the long drives... I’m planning to do it first long drive out there ..cheers 🍻
I did a lot of outback stuff and the flies drove me mad. They dont care when you wave your hand to shoo them away. They fly about 400mm away then come straight back sometimes into your mouth. My solution that worked great was my portable cows/horses tail. Works magic, 2 or 3 swipes and they leave you alone for a couple of minutes. Once you own one you will cherish it.
Another great vlog guys - we just did that run in reverse a few weeks ago, looks like things have dried out a little. Tobermory Stn is also a great camping option if you are passing that way again, I just posted our vid of the trip too haha
love the content guys , we too have a gq patrol 93 but did i hear right you are getting 14 Lt /100 thats incredible we just did a 11000 km trip and cost us a penny or too < 27Lt/100 it turns out .Yeah patrolapart are garbish no luck here with them either you'll love uluru that and the olgas are incredible if you can check out the field of lights
Is that a petrol gq? My TD does 16-17 with trailer in tow. But I do push it. Never had a problem with patrolapart getting genuine parts. Maybe they sell crap aftermarket stuff?
Hi guys. I did the Plenty in 1982 in a FJ40, 20l per 100,. there was a storm coming in from the east. I left Boulia at 1pm, drove all night, had a kip for 3 hours in the swag. arrived in Alice at 8am the storm arrived around 11am and closed Alice for over a week
Great footage and great to see what a young family can do. But for a first time watcher it’s a bit of a turnoff to hear you bag out a company with such a great reputation. Most have a very high respect for the team at Patrolapart. I have no doubt they’ll do the right thing by you and your family. Anyways hope the positive criticism helps 😂👍, keep up the great work. I will watch more, love the old td patrol 👌
1 leaking new water pump, 2 power steering hoses and then the pump. I've had enough of them just replaced the parts. No reimbursement for labor, fluids or cleaning products. Not to mention time waiting, stress, I've had a gut full of it.
Yeah sorry something went wrong with the scheduling and didn't catch it because we are having so little phone service. We reschedule uluru back to next week, sorry again
It's a GQ, just disconnect the power steering belt and drive it. There are next to no turns and your driving it on mostly dirt so steering will not be too difficult. Its all part of the adventure.
From memory the black top stops 80km from boulia and dirt the rest of the way. Road is in really good condition. We spent 2 1/2 days averaging 75km/h, and not rushing off in the mornings.
We are having a issue with the small door behind the toilet on drivers side. Its not the seal. Either the locks or coming through the frame/sheet metal
@@GoingOverlandnot sure of issue but maybe do what I have done on a few of the door locks. Extra M6 nuts and maybe longer M6 bolts and flat washers on the end of the bolt. Can’t post photos here but if you give me email I can sent photos.
Hey Guys, love the channel! We are heading out to Birdsville/Uluru etc, out of curiosity, how much do you think filming the drone footage added onto your time? We are planning on using our drone too, but are cautious about time in certain areas.
@@GoingOverland Yeah I read that, is what it is I suppose! Do you know how many hours it takes to cross from Boulia to Alice Springs... Google says 8.5hrs... but Im weary! Thanks for the videos and reply btw :D
@@GoingOverland I got a west print outback map & travel guide of the plenty & sandover highways and now making plans to make trip to Fossicking grounds Near Gemtree & Alice Springs /Ayres rock next year doing it in the cooler months via the above
Noticed a very dangerous thing he did. Removed the radiator cap with his face very close to it. I once did that and copped a facefull of boiling fluid. Luckily I didn't get hit in the eyes as I was severely burnt. Could have been blinded.
You were correct the first time, Ayers Rock is the correct name used in the NT including by the local Aboriginals. Uluru is a name Tourists tend to use.
@@nataliiinal5294 as far as I'm concerned, to quote a popular phrase of today, "it is and always will be Ayers Rock". Thankful I'm of one of the generations that was able to climb on the rock...
Yep enjoying the ride everyone. One question. How do you pay for these camp sites if you just roll in of a night. Is there a money drop point or must you book online?
Along the Plenty hwy it was all free camping, same with most of outback Queensland. Northern Territory had drop box for remote national parks, then other places like Uluru you have to pre book and pay online or over the phone
