@@Kevin-gb8gbI've never seen Andy annoyed with Sting though. They are still actually good freinds. Like Andy said in a recent interview " Stuart had to put up with two moody Englishman"
@@brianshaffneraclchis busyness in the middle frequency is so satisfying and professional. Far better than the guitarists who cant shut the fuck up in the middle of the song with the overly distorted pentatonic scales as a guitarist he is a goal composer and improviser
I like to see Sting when he's with Summers and Copeland. He looks totally different when he's with them. He loses his usual coolness and never hides his emotions, especially at Copeland. It's like he's facing an old mate of his, who irritates but also amuses him. Copeland totally understands how to trigger that bit in Sting.
It was Stewarts band and Stewart invited Sting to London and Stewarts brother was their/his manager and his dad ran the CIA and could have Sting disappear. Stewart knows this and lords it over Sting.
Andy Summers was about ten years older than the other twand had played in numerous bands so, would most likely have seen a lot of this behaviour and knew how to step back & be an adult. He always seemed like the older brother looking at the kids fighting it out until they got tired !
I do believe Andy was the first person to jam with Jimi Hendrix in the UK. Happened the morning after Jimi's arrival in 1966 at Zoot Money's house where Andy was living. Yeah, older and wiser.
@@carltonclay4618 not really, he’s a known bully and fight starter. 3 cucky arses, they have the worst personalities, I would of knocked the snot out of Stewart and or Sting if he treated and talked to me that way. It’s not a wonder why they didn’t get along, they are a#%es. Not to mention, the subpar “music” sting “writes”, a real yawn fest. 🤮🤮🤮 They’re such idiots, they can barely muster a reunion tour together and keep it going. That lasted, what.... a handful of shows? RUSH, now there’s a real trio, that has talent and earned respect in the industry. Same goes for TOOL. The Police, hated each other, and couldn’t stand being in the same room with each other. If it weren’t for the money, they would not have anything to do with each other.
Me too. But there's a downside to having the sort of personality - i.e. a compete "look at me" showboat jackass - you'd have to have to be a drummer like that. It just comes through with every stroke of his drum sticks.
"That doesn't mean ANYTHING, Sting!!" God, the open vitriol barely masked by the sarcasm was incredible in most of the interviews with the Police around this time. No doubt they would have cratered their reputation after Synchronicity if they had put out another record. Tension can be a good thing between band members, as it can bring out the best in everyone, but another Police record at that time would've been a huge mistake IMO.
@@Iktius I'll tell you why: because their lack of camaraderie may have resulted in albums similar to "You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd", "Two Hearts", "Love Bomb", "Mad Not Mad" and "Cut The Crap". Ever heard these albums (or heard of them)? Look up what artists' recorded these, but I swear you won't believe it. All of them, popular artists [at the time]; all those titles.....BOMBED. Yes it's sad The Police ended, but at least they went out with a bang and NOT a BOMB!
Yeah clash of egos but Copeland has nothing to do there. Hes a great drummer but without Stings compositions Copeland wouldnt have been what he is. He disappeared into oblivion when Sting went solo to make more hits. Sting proved he didnt need them. And that hurt Stewarts ego. Had Stewart been more humble like Dominic Miller, we would be having at least 3 more studio albums from the Police.
Yep. Probably because the thought that this was genuine strife makes their butt hurt because they like the band. Some people tend to sugarcoat band interactions when they're a fan.
Yeah...that self indulgent shit is what drove Copeland mad....and ended the band. Sumner had stars in his eyes, Summers and Copeland wanted to make music.
I had a strong feeling at 0:50 that Stewart would be the 'recipient' of the contents in Sting's cup. You can see Sting contemplating whether to do it or not by the way he's fidgeting the cup.
Looks like Martha was hoping for a good interview, but Stewart and Sting couldn't stop horsing around. It would be nice if someone could get them all back together 35 years later and finish that interview with Martha. Maybe they could behave themselves this time.
Love the song in the back. These guys remind me of my siblings and me. Im like andy I stay out of the fight whereas my siblings are like sting and stewart beating each other up. Maybe thats why i like the police so much because Ican relate to them. Also because there music is spectacular.
OOOOR, we could approach this band as a business and we could spend the rest of the 80s and 90s touring the world and making untold millions of dollars!
Sting didn't think he needed the other boys for that, and because Adult Contemporary Radio was a thing, he ended up being right. I still like a lot of that stuff, but those Police albums are another level.
"that doesn't mean anything sting" there are countless moments where you can tell these two took the opportunity to turn the knife when it presented itself 😂
Andy is a decade older than the other two, but they weren't kids when they were at the height of their (around 30 for S and S and 40 for andy.) I've never see any interview with Copeland when he's not talking non stop.
This all becomes a bit less candid and charming when you realize they were all in their 30's or older at this time. In fact Andy summers was already like 41. The hair cuts and clothes and the attitude were meant to hide that fact. It was partly an act.
Creativity is stifled when you lose your Inner Child. You also forget that by this time, they were under an immense amount of pressure and needed to vent now and then. To say nothing of the still potent testosterone.
I think anyone that’s a fan of the band is or was well aware of their ages; the got signed about 7-8 years prior to this after having worked years honing their crafts in different bands before coming together as the Police. What about their haircuts seems contrived to you; how out of step are they in terms of mid 1980’s men’s fashion? Such an odd observation ..
Great musicians with shitty personalities. Andy Summers is an exception in the band. I’ve seen him playing live multiple times, and I talked to him a couple of times, great guitarist and human being.
If they could have held on for just four or five more years (it's easy to imagine the first two Sting solo albums as Police albums) they would would have gone down as the dominant band of the 80s- like what Zeppelin was to the 70s.
What? No.. Actually there were always ego clashes between Stu & Sting - Stu always thought it was his band and Sting wrote most of the material - Andy was like the bigger brother who stood between the 2 rude boys.
