Great to have your music reactions back, you helped so many of us get through lockdown. If you're doing Police reactions I would love to hear your opinion of "don't stand so close to me"
When this came out, I had a crush on the prettiest girl in school. Her name was Sue. So I sang "I can't stand losing Sue" that was 45 years ago! I still think of her every time I hear the song. :~)
My older brother bought me this album for a Christmas present in 1978, a month after the album was released. Roxanne of course....was getting overplayed on all the radio stations, but once I heard the whole album, this was my favorite song off of it......great guitars and driving beat to it!
When I saw the Police in ‘83, on the Synchronicity tour, i was a pretty new, casual fan at that point. This tune was huge a huge, arena -sized song. Still remember that moment. Thank you for this.
Such an awesome song. That seamless transition from reggae to punk rock, is such a signature of the Police. You can pick out the bass, guitar, and drums are all playing their own individual lines, but put them together, and MAGIC. this song is 45 years old. people will still be rocking to it when it's 100 years old.
Gawt Dang did I miss Jamel waxing poetic on the tunes. This was fantastic. Sir, you are such an amazing human synthesizer, as in, you go straight to the heart of the lyric, and immediately teach all of us exactly what the human conflict in the story is about. You are wasted on us Jamel.
This is great to see Jamel! Hoping this is a sign that things are changing with your block issue. Don't be discouraged by low view count at first as people aren't used to you being able to post music without blocks.
I understand the frustration and decreasing motivation whenever copyright becomes a major issue, and i also understand that your love for music is on my own level,i just cant function without it as it gives me soo much! One of a few things that can actually calm me down within minutes, cheer me up,break me or just make an already good day even better. And for what its worth, you were instantly one of my few favourite music reactors when EVERYONE was doing it during the worst of the pandemic (im still like "the pandemic isnt over,it has just calmed down abit, but it still comes and goes in waves, because humans keeps on going to big convensions/gatherings with people from all over the world etc.") It took me awhile to get into The Police,i mean i loved Every Breath You Take, but it wasnt until i discovered the reggae inspired songs, that i was like "Okay, these guys are more then creepy, slow st*lker songs" 2:49 If you ever get a guy staring at you with huge glasses like that, you better have 911 on speed dial.
Really great to see you able to do a music reaction, don’t know why the best to ever do it can’t do it! Why? When others have no problem. The Police, may favorite Rock group of all time ! 👍🏾✌🏽🎧
I'm a big fan of Sting since I was 12 when my mom gave me CD with almost every album, so then I started to listen in times and times again, there are so many great great songs! And then I read Matthew Gordon Sumner story, and it all started to bloom in Strontium 90, then The Police - one of the massive "new wave "genre bands. From The Police my favorite songs are Roxanne, Message in a bottle, Don't stand so close to me, Can't stand losing, Spirits in a material world, King of pain. Thanks a lot for refreshing those memories ❤❤❤
This is my favorite Police song... Plus this song sound great in a car. All music sounds better in a car, especially a hatchback with a woofer in the back.
The lyrical journey from jokes about her brother being 6’10” to how guilty she is going to feel after he offs himself….wow! I love the Police. Every album has at least 3-4 top notch songs, even the filler is pretty solid.
Congratulations! Saw it on RU-vid! There are a few Police tracks that nobody seem to react, like "Someone To Talk To" (an Andy Summers track) and a few gems like "Bring On The Night".
This was the second album I had, my dad got me the tape, my very first record was Michael Jackson’s thriller, oh my God I’m old😂I’m 50& this album never got old never will🤩 thanks for the nostalgic upload, sir💯
Closure means more than people think, sometimes people need finality. People who can't give closure to another person who they leave are cowards in my opinion, thank you for being you and I'm glad you got to put some awesome music up. Keep being you my brother 👍🏻 I appreciate you, and I love my shirt I ordered from you
The original picture sleeve for the single showed a man standing on a big block of ice with a hangman’s noose around his neck. There is a heater pointed at the ice so it will melt faster.
The thing about anyone who doesn’t give you closure (and I don’t mean they told you and you refused to listen), is they aren’t worth the heartache. Screw them! They’re doing you a favor. But this song is about a self-absorbed teenager who thinks his whole world is falling apart because of a breakup and he’s also not a good person. Anyone who would threaten suicide for attention is also not worth the trouble. I think this song is making fun of this character. Eliminating these two kinds of people from your life will make things much easier. I used to believe it was my Christian duty to put up with high maintenance people. Learned that lesson the hard way. Good people are trying to be good. They need forgiveness too, but for honest mistakes not for sadistic cruelty. I don’t roll with anyone who is ok with hurting people. I don’t even believe in redemption for them.
What makes me laugh about this song is how Sting wrote these really problematic love songs in the 80s that were funny back then. Roxanne.. A man in love with a sex worker Dont stand so close to me... a school teacher with a girl with a crush on him Every breath you take... Cant stand losing you... A man who is basically guilt tripping a girl to not leave him or he will off himself. Its problematic but can we see the comedic value in it
