Man. Nearly 30 years of wondering what this song was as it was stuck on head. I knew it was The Police, but didn't know the song title at the time. Finally!!!! Well it's still worth a listen. This mix is mellowed out, so I am comfortably numb.

Not really. I wasn't privileged with cable TV (back when it was OnTV/SelectTV) or a channel that had music videos in the 80's (early 90's) until much later. I had always wanted to get cable so I can watch VH1 or MTV, but was disappointed when I find out they were more geared to reality based showing than showing of music videos; hence, why I come to RU-vid. I first heard this song on KLOS (95.5) along (in 1988) with other songs (was right after Midge Ure's "Answers to Nothing") that I recorded onto cassette. DJ's at the time never gave out the song info but I had always thought it was done by the Police as I can recognize the voice. My search was put on hold even after the internet was introduced to me in 1996 and I was journeying around. This time, I just thought I would put my mind at ease and just see if I can find the song. If I manage to find it (based on your description), I will give you a holler.
The mystery has been solved... I remember this song as a disco remix at the very end of the disco era (1980) when I was a young kid. I always thought the chorus was "hey theeeeeere, its a paaaaaartyyyy..."
If ever a song deserved a sympathetic remix it's this one. It keeps all the jaw dropping moments of Copeland's brilliance and gives it the bass it needs to drive it beyond the minalism of the original, whilst somehow being almost as haunting.
There was an official video for the Police track back in the day, featuring Sting or one of the other members riding a motorcycle through a city on the freeways, filmed from various overpasses, etc. Pretty much confirming that which you said!
Very nice. What drumming from Stew, and that chorus effect by Summers. Bands that had to be able to play. That stopped around mid eighties I think in Britain.

Being a 3 piece band is extremely difficult and rare. Because each member MUST be truly musically gifted at their instrument or else the weak link bandmate is exposed ruthlessly. My top 3 pieces... Rush, wolfmother, the Police. The musicianship of these bands are above reproach and are a testament to just how truly talented these musicians were. Just as Niel Pert has Tom Sawyer, voices inside my head is THE showcase piece of Stewart Copeland.
After checking out some other mix versions of this song on YT I'm even more fond of this. You haven't altered the song drastically, but kept the mesmerizing beat of the original and spliced in the original music. I have the originally published "long" version and this builds upon how that first of what in the 80s called the "Remix" or "12" " twelve inch LP record. Great piece. Sting may want to ask you for rights to publish this version of what is still at its core The Police, "Voices, Inside My Head." Thumbs Up!
If you mean the long 12" version from 1980 by Common Sense, it's a cover. It's not the Sting/Police vocal or the music either. It is a great version though. I'd easily rate it a close 2nd after this one here.
