As a factory tech I can say I don’t see these in the shop for many big issues. Our sports cars are actually our most reliable platforms because we control the R&D on them from start to finish, and know people intend on keeping them for a long time. I actually prefer the feel of the 991.2 better but haven’t driven the lightweight package 992 yet.

Heard the 992 gt3s have been suffering from a lot of terrible “mercedes quality” defects. Shit like blowing engines after only 1000km.

@@greaser3069 Haven't had any in the shop for that issue yet, but those are a small quantity car. Most customer's drive those pretty hard, so I do see allot more repairs on those, just because of the kind of abuse gt3s go through, not necessarily quality issues. They might also not be doing the 1000 mi brake in period required for that engine before putting it to track use.

Love my 991.2 and it was simple to get it to nearly 700hp (if that's your thing). With a Kline 7670 it's nearly OEM quiet around town and howls when I kick in the turbos.

10 dB is a lot more than double the sound, sound energy doubles every 3 dB so 10dB louder is more than 8 times the sound energy in the cabin. That's huge, that's the difference between an S class and a WRX.

The added lightweight package seems to bring back the missing "theater" of the normal insulated turbo S without the harsh ride of the gt3. Seems great to me

-9:26 This is something my 2014 turbo S did not do. It will stay in the gear that you put it in better than almost any other double clutch car on the market. But ultimately mine overrides your wishes. Not the new one apparently. Impressive. Unfortunately for Porsche this car is still not enough to make me trade my car in. Because the 991 on cars look and are so damn good. 99% of the people on the street have no idea that it’s a eight year old car. The performance envelope is right there. It’s within 10% of the performance specifications of the new car. My 202mph 2014 is PLENTY BATSHIT, OK! And I like having a car that kind of grows old on me I don’t put a lot of mileage on it it’s got a really cool color combo. In a disposable world why dispose of it.? It’s my old friend I love it. But I also love seeing with the latest and greatest is on the new ones just to check in. Always very interesting and very impressive. The price of the new ones is ridiculous. People just need to calm down and get out of the dealer markup price hikes and quit overpaying. $300k is too much for this car. I paid half that for mine with 9k miles it’s been a good place to keep money with no depreciation, it has the Burmeister Audio and other options I never would have checked myself ($5k say what!) and was a $220k new car. I’ve had two C4S Cabs and nothing wrong with those cars AT ALL so if ya need a new or nearly new car and don’t feel like playing the $300k game I fully say good move on your part! You’ll love whatever Porsche you get, trust me. Porsche is unique that way. They are all good and it takes a decade before you or anyone will notice it’s not new. And other than the 996 they all keep or go up in value anyway!

Great review Matt. Note however, that a 10 dB increase in SPL equals a tenfold increase in sound level, not twice as loud as you stated. That's a very big increase in cabin noise for a 0.2 of a second party trick (with no change in 0-60 time), and an owner ought really think about how they intend to use the car before signing up for that. As a 991.2 Turbo owner, I'll offer that Porsche has other 911s in the stable for track mongers and if like me and many others, the goal is that magical blend of both performance and refinement that equates to strafing back roads in the afternoon and going out to a nice restaurant in the evening, or going on longer road trips, then as silly as it sounds, maybe the money is better spent on the PTS option rather than making the car fatiguing and less liveable. Personally, I'm happy with the 18-way, heated and cooled, full leather seats. To each one's own certainly, but for the money spent, I expect few owners would even notice any difference in performance, but would notice a big difference in comfort. I'm thinking Forest Green metallic or Ocean Blue metallic instead ;)

Porsche literally engineers all of their models to perfection for their intended purpose and nobody else even comes close. Pick any Porsche and try to find an objective fault that another manufacturer does better. You can’t. The only subjective fault I could think of is Porsche’s can be a little too serious or teutonic.

$10,000 for 80 pounds… I prefer to do this with $10K: - Headers/Cat/Exhaust - Tune - 700-720whp (stock is about 580whp) The exhaust work nets about 30+ pounds worth of weight savings. Delete the rear seat yourself and that nets another what 10-15 pounds? M Engineering is claiming their tune with mods nets 720whp. That’s amazing.

What the fuck kind of numbers will this put down with the entire spectrum of bolt on mods & tuning? Like ECU, downpipes, midpipes, straight piped exhaust, methane injection, ice box, larger turbos, upgraded camshafts, running race gas with race gas tune, upgraded transmission, etc.? probably would then be over 1000HP? what kind of numbers? Its been said there's 991 era turbo 911's upgraded from the aftermarket with over 1,500 HP so 1000 should be not that hard for the tuners to do with this one...and also what kind of numbers will the upcoming all new GT2 RS Weissach put out?

Unfortunately this insane level of performance is just unusable here in the US. You’ll be in jail if you try to use it. A base 992 is all you need, or get an S if you want a manual. If you want a track car get a GT3. The Turbo S looks good at the country club and cars and coffee but it is overkill.

Right you are! Even with base 911s from 20 YEARS ago, 95% of drivers (who will never track their cars) cannot exploit their true potential on public roads without getting tossed in jail, much less modern 911s. The huge hp of the TT is for cars and coffee bragging rights, nothing more.

As a GT4 owner, and a Tesla Y performance owner, there is no comparison. The Tesla is a one trick pony, fast in a straight line, and nothing else. It’s my perfect commuter car, general everyday run around, but it is no where near the Porsche in driving experience. Maybe if Elon really tried, made a two door sports car, with quality interior materials. Even then it’s basically a video game.

3566 pounds is "lightweight?" Consider this... in the 60s, a Porsche 904 weighed 1518 pounds. Yeah, less than half. And if you think that's light, in 1966 they came out with the (still street legal) 906, which only weighed 1280 pounds. With an air-cooled, normally aspirated, race tuned flat 6, this gives you a power to weight ratio close to that of this Turbo S "Lightweight," which is in the 6 (pounds to hp) range. The first 917s weighed 1808 pounds with 520hp... a 3.47 pounds to the hp figure...

they take out the rear seats and sound deadening to save 80lbs and charge 10K to call it "lightweight" is a joke. yet porschefanboys get hard.🤣😂 765Lt is 3,000lbs and 720 is 3,200lbs

Actually, the 2RS is gonna be slower than any Turbo (even non-S) cause it's rear wheel drive. But the point of GT cars is not straight line speed...

@@ToxicSpiker At this level, it's not about how much speed you can generate in a straight line. It's about how much speed you can carry through corners. 30-120 starting in 2nd is more important on-track than 0-60. Lighter than the Turbo S with more power will make for better rolling acceleration.

@@jalenad11 I'm very aware of that, which is why I specifically mentioned GT cars are NOT about straight line speed. However, keep in mind that not all tracks/roads are equal and in some cases the Turbo is actually faster than any GT car because of AWD. Especially in real world driving conditions where traction is often limited by surfaces that are slippery, imperfect, etc. Also, I'd like to see Porsche publish an official Nurburgring time for this car, I bet it would be really damn close to a 992 GT3...
