The 959. One of the best looking Porsche models ever built. Glad they mentioned NOT restoring the broken body parts, of this restoration.

Thank you Porsche for only stabilizing the car, and not erasing the history like so many others do these day by over-restoring. I hope you show in detail of how Porsche stops the corrosion while keeping the patina of history.

This is the sort of content that it'd be great to see more of on the channel! I'm still disappointed that the Dakar 959 wasn't on display in the Porsche museum when I visited, but at least now I know a little more as to why that might have been

Bin ich froh, dass das ´nur´ eine technische Überholung wird und das PORSCHE dieses Auto weiter so auf seine Fans wirken lässt. Ich freue mich auf weitere Filme!

Porsche ….continuing to do EVERYTHING better than other car manufacturers. 🙌🏻 Their YT content is light years ahead of it’s rivals. It’s just an entire company of technically proficient car nuts.

Thank God you’re leaving all the cracks, chips, dings and damage, and not erasing the story that the car has to tell. It’s crazy to think there’s still 35+ year dirt from the Dakar Rally trapped in the nooks and crannies.

My favourite race car of all time, such a beast and very apt that it's being sympathetically restored as I have just completed a restoration of my Tamiya 959 Dakar, I have also left the body damage it received when I was a kid because I think it looks more realistic. Glad to see I was right 🙂

How cool!! I've recently fully restored two Tamiya 959's (And a celica grb)!! One is a runner which I still drive, and the other is a total 'as new' restoration in the 86 rally livery! Like you, had one in my childhood, so great to have this awesome model on display again.... Tamiya got the detail spot on with this one! 👌 If you are interested seeing them please check out our RU-vid channel @ Green Hawks RC! You can see the restored car here, along with the black one in action racing against the General Lee, monster beetle and lunchbox! 👍

@@yodadarksideGreenHawksRC I will definitely check it out buddy, I have given mine a few light runs but given how fragile and quick the thing is it spends most of its life in a display case 😬, I always wanted the GRB Celica to go with the Porsche but at the time I couldn't afford it and now they are so rare and impossible to buy 👍

@@onkouth With you 100% there fella! The 959 was always a weak design, but after nearly 40years the ABS plastics have become so brittle. Finding new old stock parts is extremely difficult..... It took me over a year to source the parts for my 'as new' restoration of my rally livery one. Total rebuild costs for that car touched £1000,and had to import parts from USA, France and Japan! This one now stays on the shelf totally mint! I then done the celica, which came to another £900,she also stays on the shelf. I then had so many worn but usable parts left over so I built a 'runner' from them (the black one) I soon found all the hubs, wishbones etc shattered after just a few runs so I imported some aluminium replacements from USA. These work a treat, and she's a joy to drive and race! There is lots of stronger reproduction parts now available for them from MCI racing amongst others if you wish to run them. But, it sounds as if yours is a perfect little 'time capsule' of sentimental value.... Best left on the shelf, as so much pleasure can be had just from looking at this superb model! Cheers for checking my ones out fella, I think you will like them! Just find 'Green Hawks RC', click on 'View channel', then click on 'videos' and you should find the 959 restoration and the GRB, along with a few videos where the black runner in action! 👍 👍 👍

Can you guys kindly discuss the Differential, Transfer case, Diff Locks, and overall AWD design? I know Dr Ing Porsche and the design team actually wrote and published a book about this AWD system, which also featured in somewhat modified form in the 964. However I am especially curious whether the 959/964 AWD at all informed the AWD system on the original 9PA/955/957 Cayenne, a system with which the the 959/964's seems to share some number of similarities, and a vehicle that is still largely underappreciated for its off-road prowess that is admittedly belied by its on-road capabilities.

I love the fact that Porsche understand the difference between restoration and preservation. So many greedy idiots over-restore cars well beyond new condition and erase all history and turning a wonderfully used machine into an ATM.

Porsche is really good. Still, I have to give you some advice. You guys have to succeed. I can't see any models other than 911,918 and SUV. Ordinary people can only buy 911. Please increase the variety of models. Please make a variety of sports cars instead of making 911 every day.
@XenonG

Bruh, Porsche almost didn't keep existing a few times the last few decade. The Cayenne and Boxter sales literally saved them, and recently they had to develop and sell the Macan to keep existing. Do they not sell the 718 Boxter and Cayman anymore? An entirely new platform even with shared parts is prohibitively expensive(maneuver) to even consider when the benefits are near zilch, people don't buy sports cars anymore. I consider it a miracle work that they even bothered to offer the thousand variants of the type 991.1/991.2 and to keep that up with the newer 992 that even selling limited numbers of the Dakar variant is just insane.
@팬텀-t5d
@팬텀-t5d Год назад
Advice to a real Porsche. I wish Porsche would be a better brand. Is the 911 dakar design a load-carrying car? It looks like a design that has been put on another tray on a tray. Please don't do that. Please make many models of pretty sports cars and sports sedans. SUVs are enough now. Various designs of sports cars and Panamera are really popular in Korea. Two more such models make it I think the Taycan is the same because it is the design of the Panamera electric model.
