Location: San Fran Dhammaram Temple
Speaker: Phra Kru Palat Anandapanyo
Topic: The Power of Friendship
San Fran Dhammaram Temple was established by the great arahant, Luang Por Thoon Khippapanyo. SFDT emphasizes the teachings of the Buddha - especially the cultivation of the right view, or sammaditthi. Before the blessings for food offerings are given, the monks traditionally give a short daily sermon. Not only do lay people receive merit for their good actions, but they also learn something useful. This is the true benefit of making merit at a Buddhist temple - learning something that can be internalized and applied toward self-betterment. We hope that our short Dhamma talks lead to mental cultivation and improvement in your lives.

Maitri(metta), first noble infinite mind, which means friendliness or inclusive, and not loving-kindness as misinterpreted by Christian translators as similar meaning to the Jewish traditional word of chesed. In the dharma of the noble beings taught by the Tathagata Buddha, the first mind to be mindful of, to become a noble being is maitri. This is followed by karuna (empathy), mudita (joy in cherishing others) and upeksha (equanimity or for simple understanding, non-judgmentality).
