“For somebody who's never been in Westminster, he's had probably more influence over what's happened in this country than anybody since Tony Blair.”
Gawain Towler, former UKIP press officer, and Luke Tryl, UK Director of More In Common, consider why Nigel Farage is such an influential figure in UK politics.

You believe Farage is doing this on behalf of everyone? He is doing it to reinvent himself in a new role as Consumer Champion. It gives him more media coverage than standing on beaches with his binoculars and selling birthday greetings on his website, and augments the EU pension he got as an MEP. after voting to leave the EU! Fargae is a grifter, just like his idol Donald Trump...and that obsequience didn't gain him anything either.

What is happening ? France has always had a history of riots and violence, and dealing with racist issues going back decades but in comparison the EU is doing fine finacially .We have the highest debt in recorded history, the highest energy prices, the highest inflation. the highest interest rates , health and social services in collapse, a lack of housing, a lack of labour a skill shortage, a lack of productivity and a lack of outside investment beacuse who wants to invest in a country outside one of the biggest trading blocks in the world The rest of Europe looks at the UK in utter disbelief at what we have done to ourselves.with Brexit. The way the system works in this country, it’s almost impossible for a party, other than Labour and Conservatives, to get in power. The only possible way is for the 17.4 million brexiteers to vote for a new party. But most will vote to keep one of the main parties out, which will result in one or the other getting in.

The problem with Farage as a politician he may be good at grievances but he doesn't offer a comprehensive social and economic reforms for England. There appears to be no real substance to the man he maybe anti this and anti that , but a politician needs more than that. Take the late Aneurin Bevan he envisaged the NHS years before he was in power. If Farage does have long term plans he should publish a comprehensive programme for England then he would have some real credibility

Great communication skills always trumps technical competence. If you have the power of persuasion, you can get other people to do things. Such people however need technical experts to get things done. However even technical experts cannot achieve what is technically impossible like a Brexit that offers any benefit at all to the UK.

you don't have to pursue an already popular agenda to be a populist - that would be a follower not a leader. Mr. Farage (who's name - unless i'm wrong - rhymes with carriage not barge) clearly has appeal, is clearly clever, knows how to play games, knows how to wind folk up, knows about agenda-setting, understands business, money and is a strong communicator. and yes, probably has common person principles, decent standards and is more than likely an overall good bloke on a personal level. me, i just don't like (what i see as) his Russian-style moseleyish oligarchical-like fascism by stealth. he's the right-wing equivalent of Mr. Corbyn - a political limpet on the hull of the good ship democracy. they're there, they're going nowhere but if they could they would spring a leak. in as much as i don't like much of what he says i would still defend his right to say it although i would also look to fight or pushback if he were to deny me equivalence especially if the trumpian mentality of shut em down rose to power in what is effectively harnessing dimensions of arrogance, exceptionalism and double-standards (known or unknown) that instinctively i have reservations about.

I have never understood why average people(like myself) think "he is just like me" or "I can relate to this guy" is a positive attribute for the leader of a nation. I want someone who is much better than me, someone exceptional, I certainly don't wanna settle for average for the most important job in the country! Smoking is a sign of both poor judgement(for beginning) and weak will(for not being able to quit), so why would I think smoking was a positive trait for that job? Smoking was just an example, the same argument goes for most character flaws. *Is it that the average person is too proud/insecure to admit that they are average, and think they would be qualified for the job themselves, and thus anyone like them is too?*
