Love a good regeneration speech, I love in 12's speech he's going really deep on what kind of person he wants to be in his next life, to be caring and kind and then he just breaks from the seriousness to say "and never eat pears that's an important one"

The Sixth Doctor's regeneration is wonky in the eyes of many fans because the BBC at the time (corporate bigwigs) for whatever reason did not like the actor and were starting to have a disdain for the show since it wasn't as popular as it was in the 4th doctor era (this disdain is what eventually led to the classic series being cancelled a few years later). The actor wanted a full season to finish his character arc and the BBC refused, instead offering only one episode, and Colin refused so he was basically fired. In the actual episode it starts with the TARDIS being attacked and when we see our hero, he's already on the floor and when his body is flipped he regenerates into the 7th Doctor. The actor had to put on a 6th Doctor wig and it was horribly edited so you even with the regeneration effects you can clearly see it's not Colin Baker. Colin Baker is the only actor to not get a proper regeneration.

To be fair, they rushed it for Sylvester McCoy as well. Also, Colin Baker *rightly* refused to take part in that scene, since he was fired over the phone.

I'm watching this in tribute to my late Sister who was a HUGE Dr.Who fan; since she was the one who introduced me to the show when I was a kid. The Doctor that was popular then was Tom Baker. 🙂

David Tennants doctor (10th doctor) broke my heart so much so we’ve had three new doctors regenerations and i still haven’t gotten over ten’s yet. I still cry when watching re-runs of the episode and even during this video i had to look away so i didn’t see him and cry again. It really haunts me. On the 60th birthday celebration episodes starring my beloved David Tennant as the 14th doctor for three episodes i find i’m gonna have to brace myself and go through another regeneration of him when i’m still trying to get over his first regeneration. I can’t wait for these episodes though even though it will break my heart again. Take care 😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Time & the Rani: the BBC director had sacked the Sixth Doctor actor, Colin Baker. Unable to get him back to do a regeneration scene, production stuck a wig & the coat onto the next actor, Sylvester Mccoy. The villain (Time Lady scientist known as The Rani) walks into the TARDIS whilst he is regenerating (with a digital distortion on the actors face). No goodbye speeches, no (edit: farewell) music, no nothing.

The actor didn't want to comeback after being fired in the manner he was just to film his regeneration. Though he's still active in the doctor who community. Just wasn't pleased with how the business end went back at the time.

@@ToddReacts Jokes on the firing party. Colin was in the BBC centenary episode (oct 22) as a ghost of the Sixth. Also Sylvester (Seventh) & Sophie (his last TV companion, Ace) got a scene together since the show was stopped in '89.

People have been arguing about whether it’s a death or a beginning since it was first introduced as a concept but I view it as both. See the Doctor can absolutely have those feeling expressed by Tennant. He is essentially losing a part of himself when he regenerates- or, rather he feels like it. Imagine if you had years to live as.. well, YOU as you are today, but one day you die, or are near death and then you are forced to explode. There’s pain and sorrow and fear and a twinge of confusion and just like that, you are someone different. You retain all your memories, but you look in the mirror and there’s a different man standing there, even you’r own voice is unrecognizable. At your core you hold the same values, but the way you approach them is something you have to rediscover, you have different habits, different tastes, you might feel differently about someone than you did before, etc. Point is, your just different in a way that growing older as an average man on earth could never hold a candle to- and no one but you truly understands what that’s like. At the same time though, the Doctor, having done this so many times before throughout his long life knows it’s not the end. He knows he will eventually get through the regeneration and that he will be just as comfortable in his own skin as he is in that moment, in his reluctance to change. That he will be ok and find a way to accept and love the person he will become. It’s also a tad exciting for him too, which is where the viewpoint of beginnings come from. After the sadness and the saying of goodbyes, both to old companions and to himself- it’s a whole new adventure, figuring out who he is and what sort of man he will be from that point forward. I think so many people forget that regeneration is a transition. It’s a process. It’s both a physical AND a physiological thing. You can’t just think of it as either a death OR a rebirth, because it’s neither. It starts out as a farewell a passing on, and ends when the Doctor has rediscovered himself and somewhat accepts what has come in the place of who he used to be. It’s like what 11 was saying, that you can remember all the people you used to be, but there is a time to move on and change. I don’t see that as him not viewing it as some sort of death, but the big theme in the culmination of his era was that nothing is ever gone for good. Remembering thing is a way to keep people and memories alive and that’s why so many people view 11’s approach as not believing regeneration is a death, but I still think it was him viewing death to rebirth In an optimistic light to try and soften the change and make it less devastating ( which worked for no one, of course 😢).

imagine a doctor lasting like 4 seasons and on the fifth he dies in the middle of a season falling down a small flight of stairs in the middle of an episode randomly with no reason whatsoever.

Recasting usually doesn't work in continuity heavy franchises. in that regard Doctor Who is a rare exception. I don't think anyone would've accepted it if we just had 13 William Hartnell look alikes that tried to do their best impression of him. Doctor Who does recasting so well because canonically, regeneration is more than just a body swap, it's a personality shift. Every new actor just needs to embody the heart of the character, but they are allowed to make it their own rather than attempting to one up their predecessor.

I would've never expected you to watch a Harbo Wholmes video, since you usually go for the vibes-based edits rather than more analytical style. But regardless... Regeneration has definitely given DW a large part of its unique identity. Even beyond the sheer practicality of the actors moving on to other things, it's allowed the show to keep reinventing itself to the point that one season to another one could be forgiven for thinking they're completely different shows. That's been largely to its benefit, since it keeps the series from becoming stale, but it does also lead to, every couple years, fans going, "Eh, I don't know about the new Doctor; they're not like MY Doctor." Peter Capaldi got a lot of that right off the bat and has since gone on to be one of the most beloved Doctors ever. I'm a little surprised Harbo only had bad things to say about Six's Regeneration, though. Seven's is particularly weird. For context the show had been quietly canceled for 6-ish years at this point abd came back as an American co-production to make a pilot for a new series. And the movie opens with an older Seven, who gets unceremoniously shot down in the street after, I think, five minutes of screen time. Technically that's not what kills him; he actually dies on the operating table due to the doctors not realizing he has different physiology than a human. But it's such a strangely undignified End to a Doctor. That said, a lot of ink has been spilled about how ironically appropriate it is that the Doctor known for scheming and having plans within plans dies because of a stray bullet from a conflict he wasn't even involved in.

The BBC decided to get rid of Colin Baker and did it in a really abrupt manner, so Colin refused to return just to film the regeneration scene. It resulted in McCoy having to start the regen scene in a ridiculous blonde curly wig. It turned out OK though, considering!

No your right it is kind of like James Bond as they had both been around since the early 60's the only difference is James Bond is a human secret agent that change actors without explanation as to why he looks different each movie while with The Doctor he's a time travelling alien with two hearts travelling in a Police Telephone Box who changes whenever his body gets fatally injured, old age or killed but what people seem to forget is The Doctor is still the same person despite personality change which is why i don't get people specially only the NuWho fans get emotional whenever The Doctor regenerates he's not dying he's just regenerating getting a new body which is why i did not like David Tennant's regeneration because it was so over done and it made The Doctor look too self indulgent because previous Doctors have embraced the change it's normal for a Time Lord to regenerate but they made a big soap opera of it while yes its sad to see your favourite actor go it's never the end of the character. Time and the Rani why it was unpopular story was Colin Baker (The Sixth Doctor) was fired from the show before the new season began but was offered to do the regeneration scene but righfully declined so he never got his last speech or proper last scene. His successor Sylvester McCoy (Doctor 7) had to play the injured Sixth Doctor with a wig to do the regeneration with his face obscured worse of all there was no explanation as to what caused the regeneration other than the attack on the TARDIS it's assumed he fell off an exercise bike or hit his head on the console so we never got that farewell scene from The Sixth Doctor.

@cameronjosephvideos5942
@cameronjosephvideos5942 Год назад
I think Bond and Batman work for the same reason. They aren't continuity heavy. Every recast feels like a reboot, a different version of the same character as opposed to someone who is clearly not the same person doing their best impression of their predecessor.

How is Twice Upon A Time controversial?
@natsmith303
@natsmith303 Год назад
It's largely just because the First Doctor is written out-of-character for jokes. While it's accurate to say that One could be sexist, it was never as overt as he was written to be there. Plus since this is supposed to be One at the tail-end of his life, it's odd how he's being written as if he's in the early days and hasn't gone through the three seasons of growth he'd had.
