I love the analogy with the cup Rabbi Anava. It's beautiful how you explain this.

Rabbi Anava, Thank you for the interesting video. I have a question. Concerning the matter of "time," would I be correct were I to say that duration goes beyond just the basic meaning of the words in Tehillim where speaking of Hashem, it states, "For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday. . . . (90:4)"--for example, to the soul which spends time in Gehinom, chas v'sholem, the length of time may actually be greater than eleven months even though we say that it is always 11 months or less. In other words, assuming a soul in Gehinom were cleansed for years, from the perspective of those saying Kaddish, would the duration of time which passes for we, the living (in the World of Action, 'Asiyah') be only 11 months and then the cleansing is complete? One more way of saying what I am trying to get out is that generally, we the living may be saying Kaddish for 11 months but from the perspective of the soul in Gehinom, this may actually be hundreds of years or even more, G-d forbid. And though the soul in question's cleansing may have actually taken much more than 11 months, when one is viewing things from our perspective here, it is in most cases only 11 months (even though the process may be significantly longer from the perspective of the soul itself in Gehinom). If so, would it be incorrect to say that spiritual time is different than physical time? Furthermore, could one say that the Torah confirms that time itself can be compressed or expanded--or even stopped--in accordance with the will of Hashem?

+HerrlicheRaubtier Yes to all your questions. A soul can be in Gehenom 12 months (Not 11. 11 months is the length of the trial of a soul that is 'right', as for the soul that is found guilty, the trial is 12 months), so our 12 months in this world can be 1000 years of Gehenom to a soul. There is no real time in Gehenom, it is just a definition of length. And yes, spiritual time is different than physical time. A) there is no such a thing as spiritual time, it is just a definition for us to relate. But if you want to 'lower' the spiritual level to our worlds definition, then spiritual time IS different than physical time And yes, the Torah does confirm that time itself can be compressed or expanded--or even stopped--in accordance with the will of Hashem
