Alright guys, wish me luck! I'm going to the gas station right now to use that tire air pump I've been eyeing the past 3 weeks since my tire pressure warning showed up. I've never used one and have always felt intimidated seeing that odd looking pump station, I now have the courage after watching this video! What kind of grown ass man am I.....
Be careful with PSI!! This video was really helpful, thank you. The only problem I had was that you’re not supposed to fill the tires to the psi printed on the tire. I did that, as shown in the video, and it ended up being too much air. So I went to a tire shop afterward and they told me the recommended psi is printed inside the drivers side door. Thank you again for the video, but I just want to warn other viewers not to use the psi printed on the tire.
Thanks for the heads up! I learned that the hard way back in 2018 by putting TOO MUCH air in my tire, (I definitely probably went over the PSI limit shown on the driver's side door), which put a bubble in that tire, and I had a blowout on the highway. The tire exploded! Luckily I didn't injure myself or injure others, but it was scary! Thanks for the heads up
Even though I understand that the 44 psi may be wrong, the explanation and instruction on how to check pressure and use the air machine was SUPER helpful. Thank you!! 🙏🏻
The recommended PSI for your vehicle may be found on a sticker located on the front drivers door jam. Some vehicles tire pressure differs from front to rear tires. Also, with the exception of a small psi fluctuation from summer to winter and vise versa, your tires should never need air. If you need air in your tires, take your vehicle to a professional mechanic to have them inspected for leaks. A small leak often requires giving the tire a soapy bath, which means the tire must come off. When in doubt, check with your local mechanic.
That was helpful. Whether you're male or female, this is a practical skill that you don't get taught in school, but you should know. My dad usually takes care of anything my car needs but now I'm out of state and I have to take care of my car. I noticed the warning light for the tire inflation coming on so now I'm going to try to deal with it. This was helpful.
*Great air pump **MyBest.Tools** Faster than my old plug in pump and twice as handy without having to drag the cord around. And it works with my existing Ryobi drills battery.*
I have a concern: 44 PSI is the maximum pressure, what the tire can take without risking breakage. The operating pressure for the tire is usually much lower. Think about the maximum temperature you can stand without getting heatstroke. Then think about a temperature at which you're comfortable for work. Similar concept.
NO! What is says on the side of the tire is the MAX it should be inflated to. Look at the sticker inside the car door or in the owner's manual for what the tire SHOULD be inflated to, which is determined by the CAR MANUFACTURER. Her tire at 32 was probably right where it needed to be. Going to 44 is putting the integrity of the tire in danger, therefore putting YOU in danger. If you have followed this video please recheck and DE-INFLATE to the recommended amount. Just push the stem of the tire, where you inserted the air, to the side to release air. The bulb end of your tire gauge, the part you hook to the stem to add air, on the back side of that should be a little thingy perfect for pushing the stem to the side for deflation. Drive Safe.
ok so I found this video really helpful because I already know to check the panel on my driver side door for recommended psi. what I really wanted was to watch someone use the "darn" machine. So ty!! You did a great job of showing us how to put air in our tires, you just made a mistake about how to find out how much air to put in, but you still showed us what you said you would so everyone needs to caaaaallllmmmmm dddooowwwnnn
One more thing to add: Your tires heat up while driving due to friction. This will also increase the pressure of the air in your tires. If you've inflated to 44 psi cold, you could easily reach 50 psi during a longer drive. Any wear from running low can compromise the structural integrity of the tire and running higher pressures after the damage is done could lead to a failure while at higher speeds.
Honestly I appreciate someone like you who explains everything. Thank you so much for this helpful video! I'mma put my hands on a machine tomorrow to fill up my tires. 😅 Thank you! You're an angel. Other videos haven't explained a whole lot.
DO NOT TAKE HER ADVICE regarding proper PSI for a tire.... The pounds per square inch (psi) pressure number branded on the tire's sidewall identifies the maximum cold inflation pressure that specific tire is rated to hold. However, the tire's maximum pressure is not necessarily the correct pressure for every vehicle upon which the tire can be used (almost all vehicle manufacturers' recommended tire inflation pressures are less than the tires' maximum pressure). Therefore when checking and adjusting tire inflation pressures, the "right" inflation pressures are those provided by the vehicle manufacturer, not the "maximum" inflation pressure branded on the tire's sidewall. The vehicle manufacturer's pressure recommendation can be found on the vehicle's tire information placard label, as well as in the vehicle owner's manual. The proper PSI is also usually located on the car's door jamb, or underneath the center console compartment lid. It will be much less then the PSI noted on the tire sidewall.
This. inflating tire pressure to the MAX (the value listed on the tire is max pressure) is extremely dangerous and could cause a blowout on the road, which is very likely to cause an accident.
Your question is the reason why you should only replace with OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) or OEA (Original Equipment Approved) aftermarket tires. Many people are not aware that the tire choice is engineered to work as part of the suspension of the vehicle. The tires work in conjunction with the other parts of the suspension and even affect the acceleration, braking, and cornering ability of the vehicle. The tires are approved based on speed rating, wear rating, load capacity as well as several other very important specifications.
Thank you! Your video was so helpful. I was a complete novice and you showed me the basics in a clear, knowledgeable, and friendly way. You’re wonderful- thank you!
oh my god I love you this is exactly what I was looking for! As a college student living on the other side of the country from home with a "check tire pressure" light on, I'm so glad I found this!
You need more help than you think if you are taking advice from her, first thing is that what she read on the tire was the max capacity of the tire 44psi, that is not the pressure that the tire is supose to be inflated to. Always check your car manual to see if you have the right tires, and then check the optimum pressure for those tires, and in case you changed the rims, then you have to find out the right pressure for the type of tires you are using in your type of vehicle.
No way this vehicle needs 44 psi that's crazy. Brian is right. You know how to use Internet obviously so just check car maker, year and model and you'll find your correct psi. Please note that sometimes front tires take different psi than rear ones. Over inflating tires like this will wear them off at the middle, while under inflating wear them off in the sides...
Thank you for explaining that so clearly. As a guy who knows nothing about cars, I find your explanation of how to do things easier to follow than the mechanics.
What a fantastic breakdown! Thank you!!!! Special nite: although I’ve read that we should use the tire pressure recommendation that’s printed inside the car, not the tire number.
I wish I would have seen this before I went to the air pump about an hour ago 😮. But honestly, this is the most helpful video I’ve come across on filling up your tires! Thank you so much ❤
You saved me! I was stranded in the middle of the night w a flat. Luckily i was next to a gas station w air. I was panicking bc i couldnt figure out how to use the darn pump thingy THANK YOU YOURE MY HERO
Hi Roxanne, thank you for making this video, but unfortunately the information is not correct. The number on your tire, 44 PSI is the max air pressure the tire can handle (at 44psi it can handle its maximum rated load). This is not the PSI one fills the tire to however. Tire pressure for a tire is based on the weight and characteristics of the vehicle they are on. The car manufacturer has already done the math for you, and you can find this information in the driver's side door jam. For example, if the door jam states the car should have 31 PSI in all four tires, then regardless of what the side wall of the tire says, or what brand the tire is, the correct pressure is 31 PSI. Regardless if the tires side wall says max pressure is 35 or 44 or 50 it doesn't matter. The max pressure is provided on the side wall to inform the consumer or mechanic - if the cars door jam calls for a higher number PSI than the max pressure number on the tire, then someone installed tires that are not "strong" enough for the vehicle. Some cars call for 26 PSI, because of their front suspension characteristics and their weight, and others call for 34 PSI due to a different weight and characteristics. The PSI stated in the door jam (not the side wall of the tire) is the perfect pressure for optimal fuel economy, cornering and handling. I understand the points of these videos and I think they are a really great idea but this one needs correcting. Running at max PSI is dangerous, an over inflated tire makes steering unpredictable on bumpy roads, and handling much worse.
TheSolitaryObserver lol instead of being a💻 thug if you LISTENED (BUT YOUR A "Y" chromosome oh that's what they would describe a real MAN) "SHE"(X A ♀ OH LET ME EXPLAIN AGAIN FOR THE..♿ WOMAN) SHE SAID FOR PPL IN AMERICA.. AND IF YOU REALLY DIDN'T GET IT..LOL UGH 😴 SHE IS IN CANADA..
you should never pump it according to the tire's specification, but to the specification on the inside the car's door (it's usually somewhere around 35; NOT 44)
Unless you change the tire type from the factory spec tire... My replacement wheels with larger tires are 20PSI above the factory tire PSI, if I were to roll with the factory PSI on my setup, they would not be inflated enough, causing poor gas mileage and possible sidewall wear, so yes, you can go by the tire manufacturer PSI ratings and recommendations, never to exceed the max PSI listed on the tire. A factory/stock specification tire, sure, use the PSI that is specified by the vehicle manufacturer. ...just pointing it out that this is not always the case, tons of people replace wheels/tires with aftermarket products. (Common to be at different pressures than what is listed on the vehicle sticker or manual) ...and for people that say there is no minimum, lol OK, have fun on the highway with a passenger rear tire below 24PSI ! 😆
Thank you Practical Girl! I was looking for a video about how to use the air pressure machine, and your instructions about the digital gauge part of the machine's nozzle was exactly what I need to know. Also, I love your ring!
Thanks so much. My tire light has been on all week and I was having anxiety about stopping for air. Very clear and Im headed right out to do it. You may be my go to for car maintenance from now on.
Thank you Roxanne!! Your video has eliminated my anxiety about adding air to my tires since my husband is no longer here to do all that is necessary regarding the car. I look forward to future video's from you on car care and maintenance. :-)
Thank you Roxanne! This video really helped me out when I filled air in my tires for the very first time. The gage/measure was not working for me, but I got the problem tire pumped to the exact measure. The other ones needed just a little more air. I found all of that out when I went for an oil change...had them check the pressure.
Thank you so much for this video. Was at the gas station super frustrated because it didn’t seem like air was pumping into the tire and low and behold it was not! Quick google search brought me here and saved me.🙌🏽
inflating till 44 psi is dangerous! The tire sides mention the max inflation, not the recommended inflation. Driving in hot weather or for long can blow the tires inflated at 44.
I've been driving for a good 10 years & have always been too intimidated to do this myself. I usually just go to jiffy lube or ask someone to do it for me lol but after watching this I realize it's not as hard as I thought. I'm gonna give it a try today. Thanks for this video :)
Someone always used to do it for me too. But now I'm alone and realised I have no idea how to do even simple things like this. It feels so dependant and lost not knowing simple things like this.
Same my father used to always fill up the aue on my tires but him and my mom moved to a different state and now I'm left trying to figure out some grown up shit lol.😅@Shaara1
The proper inflation pressures are located on the sticker on the side of the drivers side door frame. It tells you the proper tire and pressure for the front and back of the vehicle. The pressures on the tire are listed as the maximum pressure of the tire.
Thank you for your help. I had to put air in my tires and s a single mom, I had no idea how to use that air pump until I watched this video. I appreciate it so much! 💗
So she basically told us to over inflate our tires hahaha. 44 PSI is the maximum, 32 at the beginning was probably the right one for that SUV. But she failed to explain that. But you guys know it right? Don't put the maximum the tires say, go by what it says on the door.
rocooo TheSolitaryObserver lol instead of being a💻 thug if you LISTENED (BUT YOUR A "Y" chromosome oh that's what they would describe a real MAN) "SHE"(X A ♀ OH LET ME EXPLAIN AGAIN FOR THE..♿ WOMAN) SHE SAID FOR PPL IN AMERICA.. AND IF YOU REALLY DIDN'T GET IT..LOL UGH 😴 SHE IS IN CANADA..
Gurl thank you so much I was stuck at Kum & Go for an hour trying to figure out how to put air on a tire and I came across your video and it helped me a lot thank youuuu🙏🏽💓
So happy to have watched this video. Thanks for the info! Been scared to add air to the tires of my car using the air pump at the gas station. Wasn't sure how to use it. This video was very helpful! :)
+Yolanda Garcia u should be still scared because 44 psi is not the correct amount. thats the Max what the tyre can handle and not what your car recommend you!!! 44 psi is dangerous its too inflated. go lower check with your car dealer or read first!!!!
The recommended pressures vary sometimes between front and rear tires and they can be found in the service manual, the door , or sometimes on the fuel hatch.
Watching this at a gas station with no help and having no clue what to do and I ended up releasing air from my tire! Thank you so much for your video I was able to put air in my tires!
44 psi seems way too high too me. I'm guessing the original 34 psi was about right. I'd recommend reading the sticker on the inside of the door seal and talking with a reliable tyre shop person, and go from there.
Thank u sooo much!!! I woke up and I got the sign on my dashboard that I had to put air in ALL the tires. I was so nervous because I had no clue how to put air in my tires... I looked this up and it helped me big time.. I looked like a pro lol! The only thing was that I didn’t know I had to let the guy know in the gas station to turn on the air in order for me to use it regardless if I insert the money into the machine. Thank u thank u!! 🙌🏼
This helped me so much and made it seem so simple!!! I always had my husband do it for me but now I don’t have to annoy him with it anymore lol :) thank you!!
The pressure listed on the side is the MAXIMUM pressure for the tire, AKA when it's hot and the car is loaded down. 32 PSI is right where you want to be, inflating to 42psi on a cold tire will put it around 48-50psi when driving which is WAY too much.
I’m sitting at the gas station and searched how to put air in car tires and saw this name and clicked on it so fast! 😩 thank you for this and thank you for making me feel so welcomed and not judged! Practical girls!! 😘😘😘
This is the first video I have seen actually explain how to use the gauge. Thanks! In the uk, you set a digital gauge before you start pumping, the air pump would just stop at that setting. So much simpler
Until today, I didn't know how to work that shit. I just pumped and went using only my eyes. Lmao I learned alot in less than 5 minutos. Preciate the vid!
You should never inflate tires to max capacity, Refer the owner manual or Sticker attached to Side door, normally a tire (with max 44 psi) will have owner recommendation between 32 psi to 35 psi. This is not the correct info that you are passing
THANKS A MILLION! That doesn't look as difficult as I thought. Some guy at the gas station is always rescuing me when I'm out there lost and feeling dumb; either that, or I ask for help. No more. Tomorrow morning I'm going to the nearest gas station. I'll do it myself and I will report back with a positive outcome.
well that is with stock tires. you need to find the rim pressure and the tire pressure, all tires are different. i have 1.5 PSI in my atv tires and 150 PSI in our truck tires
Mmm make sure the machine ain’t broken if it doesn’t give you a read out when pressed i and all you hear is air coming out... drive to a different station. I’m currently on my way to my fourth one and my tires pressure is now at 26 -_-
Very good video but One thing you got wrong you should never inflate your tires to the tire maximum pressure of 44 psi go by the tire pressure recommendation inside of your driver door panel. If you go by her advice you will damage your tire.
Thank you so much! I got to the air pump and couldn’t figure it out for the life of me. I was like “this doesn’t work, it doesn’t even attach correctly”. I tried again this morning and couldn’t believe how easy it was 😂😂
I like doing things on my own. I almost gave up and asked for help. But thi video made me feel good after I was done. You see- b4 I watched the video, I managed to deflate the passenger tire. Woof! I felt great after this video. Thank you!!!!
The video was well made so thank you for the time taken. Be careful though, the recommended pressure is never on the tire. The number on the tire is the max pressure the tire can withstand safely. The correct pressure is found in the vehicles door jam sticker. Take care.
you couldn't be more wrong love. the number on tyre tells you the max pressure. you use operating tyre pressure which you find on the sticker in the door
