I was introduced to this book by Marshall Davis. Thanks be to God, Brother Lawrence, and Marshall. What a blessing to have such a simple piece of inspiration and spiritual instruction. "I resolved to give all for the All." So simple yet so powerful.
It is indeed wonderful book and guide to how Christians should live. The purpose of life is to know God and Brother Lawrence most certainly did.May the Lord grant all who earnestly seek Him this gift of all gifts.
Yes, sometimes it seems that those considered as the "simplest" among us have as much to teach as do the Doctors of the Church. Witness the lives of (St.) Margaret of Castello, (St.) Brother André Bessette, and (Blessed) Fr. Solanus Casey.
"The Catholic Church sometimes called "The Big tent".. with many diverse spiritualities". And that is what will probably bring me back to that Church after years of being within protestant denominations. I went out of Catholicism because of some physical, mental and sexual abuse in my youth. I am feeling that although there is a "laser-like" focus on Jesus and The Bible, in Protestantism; which Catholics can learn from, it seems detrimental to completely stop there, as if "The Bible" did not have "a history" and "a context" before it even came together around 400AD. -------------Taking into account the years of writings by the Church Fathers and The writings, lives and experiences of the many saints, and historical Church traditions is very helpful to our present walk. I have actually talked some "new age" adherents into looking deeper into Catholicism and some of the Catholic mystics like St Teresa of Avila. They would tell me they wanted a more "experiential approach" to God and Jesus. -----Now many many times I find myself able to defend Catholicism and their doctrines against attacks, since I have immersed my self deeply into the theology of most major denominations.
