You may have heard the version Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli sang. But this is better. If they don’t win a Grammy for this, they will have been robbed!
I am glad to hear this is still eligible for the 2022 year. I was thinking that since they released it in 2021, it's eligibility was for the Grammy's that took place at the beginning of this year. I remember being shocked they weren't nominated. This will be great if they can get a win for this.
AMAZING!!! Scott "SMACKED" 😻 Scott singing in Italian using his baritone range, along with Mitch's high tenor is the PERFECT combination! Kevin's drums and Matt's resounding bass plus Kirstie's AMAZING vocals.. PURE ANGELIC 🙏
Great reaction. I've been a Celine Dion fan since she first released in the U.S. (I live in Florida, by the way), and have loved this song for forever. But to explain the power of PTX's version and video, I wanted to share my experience. I have been following PTX for a few years and until very recently was a Patreon patron of theirs, so I had early access to their release. Last summer, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. I had surgery to remove the tumor about 17 hours before this video's Patreon release. I was in severe pain and couldn't sleep, even with all the meds. But when I heard this song and saw this video, my tears of pain turned to tears of happiness and hope, and I was finally able to get some sleep. I am now cancer free and was able to keep my kidney. Needless to say, this group means the world to me, and I am very happy that you are enjoying them.
I'm so happy to hear that you're now cancer free! What a testimony! I would imagine this knowledge would absolutely leave them speechless! For all their achievements they have remained wonderful and humble people. They haven't forgotten where they came from and adore their fans, If you haven't you should definitely reach out and let them know this. I can guarantee that would mean more to them than any award. (and they most definitely deserve a Grammy for this!) God bless you.
What a wonderful story and so very happy you are now cancer free. I’ve been there and am also cancer free. PTX got me thru my rough times too. Sending you love from North Carolina
Hi Jennifer! I’m so pleased that you are free of cancer and kept your kidney! I’ve just heard today that one of our national treasures, John Farnham was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery to remove the cancer! I don’t know what type! I and all of Australia will be praying for him! He is an amazing singer and entertainer! Peace and Blessings to you and your family from Australia.
If they don’t win a Grammy for this I’m quitting the Grammies. It’s perfection. And Mitch is stunning It will be submitted as a Capella song of the year for 2023 🙏
The movie you're thinking of was Quest for Camelot, it wasn't Disney it was WB. The song was originally recorded individually by Celine Dieon in English and Andrea Bocelli in Italian. They later did a duet version of it that's awesome as well.
The first time I heard this, the thing that stood out more than anything was the maturity in their voices. If you think back to those "Evolution Of" videos, you can really see an incredible growth in their sound.
This is pure perfection. I didn't even know that Scott spoke Italian, but he sang it beautifully. Mitch as usual was excellent. This song was from Quest for Camelot. I watched it often with my children. I ended up singing this song at my daughters' wedding. It is a beautiful song full of deep rich meaning. I LOVE IT!
Masterpiece, brilliant wall of sound....It's still hard to believe 5 people can do this with their voices. They take the place of an entire orchestra and 2 of the greatest voices of this generation...and SLAY IT!! It is Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. This is a feeling, not just music! loved it man! This should be Grammy 4!!!
Hi Matt. I knew you'd love this one. Magnificent was it not!! Next, please do My Favourite Things ( official video) It's so much fun, it's awesome, and also Coffee in Bed. Mitch does a solo of "Your Power" a Billie Eilish cover! That is absolutely Stunning!. Please react to that as well. Thank you 😀
The word you were looking for is EPIC! And they performed it live and it is just as excellent. This is PTX at their best! I still vote for Superfruit Wicked.
Oh my goodness Tysm for this reaction. I think that we all wanted this reaction because you are enjoying them so much and we hope this is their next Grammy 🥰
Is Mind Blowing all of the, Mitch sing like an Angel, Kristin Belting, Scott singing in Italian Andrea Bocelli part with his great baritone voice, and every thing is hold by Matt and Kevin Perfection! Should win a Grammy for this
I first heard it done with Celine Dion and Josh Groban. I adore them both. Next I heard Andrea Bocelli and Celine do it. THEN PTX did it and it bowled me over! This is my favorite of all their "inspirational" songs. Goosebumps are a given with PTX right?! They take my breath away every time. I knew you'd react the way you did. Not disappointed! Sending love your way...
I'm glad you reacted to this Matt - it's a wonderful message in these challenging times - I believe that PTX has a couple of songs where a different language is sung, and I read 'somewhere' that much study and practice is given to every single word out of respect to the language they are singing. I highly encourage you to take the time to kick back, put on your headphones and 'experience' this song again while not worrying about having to react. You will hear many things that you missed the first time. (-: YOU are important ... YOU are appreciated .... YOU are valued and YOU are loved by many Pentaholics!
I really enjoy your reactions. If I may make a technical suggestion . . . please check your sound balancing. The volume on your comments is much lower than the volume of the video. I had to keep adjusting the volume when you stopped to comment. My recommendation is to check out their At Home EP. They produced the entire thing while in lockdown in 5 different places. They used Zoom to decide what was going on the album and how to arrange the songs. They each set up their own sound and camera equipped. My favorites are Blinding Lights and Dreams.
Thanks again! IMHO, this is one of their best songs. The growth, flexibility, and dynamics shown in this song display how far they have come from the "Evolution" videos. Maybe someday someone will do an "Evolution of Pentatonix" song?
We all get used to hearing Scott singing in that great Pop singer voice of his - it’s easy to forget that he’s a *proper* baritone. And then he comes out with this gorgeous bel canto section in very credible Italian and knocks us all over backwards.
They have a lot of great Christmas music. I realize it's only August, but their versions of these songs can be listened to year round, they are that good. Little Drummer Boy, Mary Did You Know, O Come All Ye Faithful. For something that's not Christmas, highly recommend Say Something & Shallow. Also, The Wizard Of Ahhhs.
I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl last year, and again a week ago (both times with my 80+ year old landlord - in a wheelchair - who had never heard of them before I forced her to watch "Hallelujah" about a month before the first concert), so it's never too late to become a Pentaholic!
"The Prayer" was originally recorded in two solo versions for the 1998 film Quest for Camelot, in English by Dion and in Italian by Bocelli. A duet between Dion and Bocelli later appeared on their respective studio albums, These Are Special Times (1998) and Sogno (1999), and was released as a promotional single on 1 March 1999.
"The Prayer" is a song performed by Canadian singer Celine Dion and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. It was written by David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager, Alberto Testa and Tony Renis.
This song is definitely one of their best and it’s my personal favorite. Recommend their cover of the little known Come Along. It is a whimsical fantastical journey with Jabberwocky references. They all shine in this video and Kirstie adds to her angelic cred.
Amazing Grace and their original song called Sing. I would also suggest taking their Sing Off journey when they first got together and started. The channel called mrduckbear11 has all the videos. You can fallow that is with Home Free’s Sing Off journey the following season. (The format was greatly modified on the Home Free season so way fewer videos to watch.)
They have other songs in different languages. One of my favorites is Papaoutai originally recorded by Belgian artist Stromae. It's in French. They collaborated with Lindsey Stirling on that one.
Sometimes listening to Pentatonix or watching their videos is downright exhausting. The level of emotion that they can elicit is not surpassed by much. This one certainly takes my breath away. The part that strikes me most is when they sing "...and we'll remember, we are all God's children..." just as the light of the sun comes through the trees and shines on all of them like a blessing.
When you take “raw talent” and put it thru a “purification” process…that’s when you get PTX at their best, and this was certainly it!!! Absolutely stunning each and every time I hear it!!!
David Foster wrote the prayer for the movie Quest for Camelot. It was, I believe two solos eventually became a duet for Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli which, until I heard Pentatonix, was my favorite. Mitch's angelic tenor altino voice and Scott's impeccable Italian did it for me.
Hello Matts, How did I miss this reaction? This is a cover of the beautiful rendition by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocceli. Your reaction to Mitch's stunning counter tenor, the notes he hits and holds, his runs and vibratos, his ethereal sounds in the backing, his soft angelic cries, is just spot on - your facial expressions said it all. Your reaction to Scott and his operatic Italian is perfection. Kirstie on her belting and shrill vibratos, in duet with Mitch. Matt on that bass undertone. Kevin driving that beat with drums and clashing cymbals. he solos, the duets, the crescendo, the wall of sound, the vidoegraphy, the light shining through, the message of hope, the prayer for us all. This is Pure Pentatonix Perfection. Goose bumps every, single time. Grammy #4 Where are you?
This was the first song that I heard from them last year when it came out. I heard them once back when they first put out Somebody That I Used to Know on RU-vid (my son showed me that first viral video). After watching The Prayer about 10 times in a row, I was instantly a Pentaholic and the rest is history!! 👏🏻🔥🤩🤯💜
No not a Disney movie, but you might be thinking of Quest for Camelot which was Warner Bros I think. It was Celine Dion and opera singer Andrea Boccelli who is an opera singer. They really deserve their 4th Grammy for this one. It’s stunning, isn’t it?
There is a video of Behind the scenes in making the album this song is from. You'll see some of the recording of this song as well as others from the "Evergreen" album. It's very informative and gives you a good idea of their process and how they relate to each other. I recommend it. They sang this on tour last year. I saw it. It was as good as the video.
While it wasn't used in a Disney movie, it was in an animated movie aimed at kids/teens called Quest For Camelot. Celine Dion sang a very short version (basically the first verse that Mitch sang by himself) in the movie, and it was later expanded to a full song. Both Celine and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli (hence Scott singing in Italian) released singles from their respective albums, and it's probably most well known for the duet of the two of them back in the late 90s.
Just beautiful! Your eyes popped open wide when Scott started singing Italian! Thank you for reacting to this. Did you happen to check out the views on this? These people are just so talented. I'm hoping this song becomes as iconic as Hallelujah! Hope this gets a Grammy too! Scott sings in Japanese (Gangnam Style), French (Papaoutai), Kirsty sings in Spanish (Despacito), and they all sing Mandarin or Chinese (Perfume Medley). Still waiting for Sing (original) and 90's Dance medley! LoveYou and yes I know this a lot! But we are patient as long as it's PTX!
Now that you've reacted to The Prayer, I strongly suggest you react to their documentary from last year, The Recording of Evergreen. Evergreen is the name of the album that included The Prayer. It gives you really good insight to their work ethic and how they arrange their music
This was written for Andrea Bocelli and he first sung it with Celine Dion in 1998. This is one of the songs that you get to watch/listen to PTX work on in-studio in THE RECORDING OF EVERGREEN.. please react to that one.. longer but nobody cares as it will be over too soon. It is a fascinating and exciting video! You get to see them creating and working together behind the scenes.. was recorded by Ben Housdorff, Kirstin's boyfriend (oh, and they just had a baby!)
By the way, The Prayer was also preformed by Charlotte Church age 16 and Josh Groban age 20 in 2002 for the closing ceremonies at Salt Lake City Winter Olympics....check it out!
