Chris has 2 bass strings on his 6 string SG, Dave has only the E A & D strings on his Strat, and Jason plays a 3 piece kit - but still they made some of the sweetest kick ass rock of the 90's!
I was there. I heard about this secret show at Mount Rushmore and drove about 90-100 to get up there. Someone pulled out of a parking spot just as I arrived, it was fate! I opened my door and just started running through the woods because I had no idea where at Mount Rushmore they were playing. I could hear Lump being played in the distance, so that is when I arrived. I followed that kick drum and then started seeing signs tacked to the trees that said: "This is an MTV performance, entering this area permits you to be filmed, blah, blah, etc. etc" Just then I came up over a rise and there they were! I was shocked at how small a crowd it was. You can hear Chris mention that it was 572 of their closest friends, I would be surprised if it was that many. I was up on the hill stage left and you can barely see me raise my arms at one point. It was a magical time for sure. The weather was nice, not too cold, no wind, felt like you were indoors. They had a roped off area by the time I got there, and I couldn't go past the roped area, but regardless, I was still quite close. They also sang a song about the Seattle Supersonics basketball team that poked fun at them, but they must have cut that from the show. I also remember someone through a paper bag on the stage and Chris stood at the mic and said, "I would like to thank whoever through this McDonald's bag on the stage!" It was kinda funny. Thanks to VanessaSNK for posting this, a great memory of my childhood, thought I would never see it again! CrazyBear65, sorry to break it to you, it was 1996. I was there. Not to mention the copyright at the end says, 1996! Those are not four thieves you see up there, they are great men that made a nation of prosperity and opportunity. The treatment of the native people is not something for anyone to be proud of, but neither you nor I were a part of that. I am grateful for the Lakota and the spirit they bring to the Black Hills, it is something I will never forget and a feeling I will always cherish.
I’m from the Black Hills. My sister told me about this and said the crowd was flown in by MTV. I would loved to have made this show. I didn’t have anything going on at school and could have easily skipped that day. Are you from Rapid City? I’m from Piedmont, went to HS in Sturgis.
@@byff2323 I am from Rapid. I suppose some of the crowd could have been flown in, but, I knew enough of them that it seems unlikely. At least 10-20 from my high-school were in the front!

insane how much this band holds up. I remember this cassette was stuck in my moms 92 corolla so we would listen to it constantly as kids. Can still quote the whole thing! Wish these guys were still around for real
Hey, t'what-ever you do to bring these awesome as fug muse-icians to Porkland Whoregone or Kyiv, Ukraine will be appreciated.. also, if you do them in that order, I'll roadie and fill in on t'what-ever isn't too loose.. if ya know t'what I mean X)/*
Thanks MTV for bring two kind of "rock stars" together! I love the good nature, high energy, and creativity of The Presidents of The United States. Killer succinct rockin' grooves with the whip-smart nudge and wink delivery. With these guys less is more...much more.
and he's super nice. He saw me get kicked in the face and break my glasses at a show while i was working security and brought me along after the show to drink with him and dave. Buncha crazy ass 14 year olds at the show. Ive worked Slayer shows that were less crazed.
this show was 2/17/1996 i remember because i was in SD doing a army survival course . I went to it to celebrate graduating the course. it was awesome!!
This setlist is taken from pusabase. Date is 2/17/1996. Joker (Steve Miller Band cover) Kick Out The Jams Feather Pluckn Kitty Dune Buggy Lump x 2 Video Killed The Radio Star Peaches x 2 Feel Like Making Love
Bought this cd back in the day. It still holds up as bad as hell in the grand scheme of things. Thank you Vanessa SNK for letting me relive. You are a fucking Rockstar.
When I was like 10 years old in 96 it was music like this and detachable penis on the radio. Growing up in the Bay Area was pretty fuckin cool.. lots of drugs and music and happy people. Something changed around 2006-2008 and now all the drugs and music still but we all angry.
A friend was going on a raod trip with his brother. It was in the late 90s. He asked whether I had music to borrow him. I send a folder with assorted cd's. Several months later he returned my music folder. My music folder (for my own car) consisted of a short live recording of tpotusoa. In particular that cd had blown the two brothers away. They had no clue. Holy moly what's the band on the green cd? Tpotusoa, I replied. In no words could they praise tpotusoa
Dude I watched this live on MTV. I fkn lovvvveeeddddd this band and thought this was the coolest thing ever. Thought I might have made it up, it's been a long time since I was a teen 😅 Rock on man thanks for sharing this gem!
Dude I also watched this live on MTV because I'm old. Did not think it was the coolest thing ever. Liked the two hit songs they have and that was it. Doesn't it suck how it's so hard to find all those old MTV performances we remember because the video quality is so bad? Most frustrating part about growing up in the '80s and '90s is a lot of those videos we would love to watch again we just can't because no good video quality even exists of it!!!!
@@TorrentFiend10why did you comment just to share how much you don’t like the band. There’s a lot there that I’m sure isn’t for you, which is why you shut up and move along 🤷🏿♂️
I never realized they were referencing The Beatles "I've Got a Feeling" on "Feather Pluckn" before, but I also haven't heard this since I was 9. Great stuff
@@pixsnapper1 PUSA were well known to play bassitars and guitbasses. Their guitars were made with a mix of both regular and bass strings so they could play both at once. So, two guitars, and two basses.
@@pixsnapper1 'Salright. Lots of people don't know about it. And yeah, they did a lot of custom work, almost to the point where you have to ask the old question of if yo replace all the parts is it still the same thing.
Does anyone know why the guitars are like that? I think it's cool but as a musician it just seems easier just to get a bass and guitar and use the regular tunings. It's like they have half the range of what standard guitar and basses would have. I'm not criticizing, I'm just genuinely curious if anyone knows why they chose this set-up.
