This is a lovely reminder of the fantastic 1980s , How I wish we could go back to the good old days, Yes life might not have been perfect but at least we had the future to look forward too, seems like the world is falling apart nowadays with less to look forward too.
May she rest in peace and may your hearts be healed. I am thinking of playing this for my Mom at her funeral. We are losing her slowly to the ravages of dementia. This song helps me with the grief. It’s so full of hope.
My mother passed away 34 years ago when I was 18, it ripped my heart out , I can replay that day in my head as if it was yesterday, it never leaves me .!! Shortly afterwards I met a girl who undoubtedly saved my life, that girl became my wife , somethings are meant to be .
I concieved twin daughters to this album 36 years ago ( The wheel of life) They have been my greatest achievement, annd joy) I am so sorry taht your MUm passed. Hope you are finding things a bit easier a year on... 🥰
So glad you found a great woman who has obviously helped you through a very hard time. I lost both my parents within a year of each other, it's a very hard time.
My mom passed away 8 years ago with dementia and a major stroke. I hear this song and think of her, the struggles we went through, the times and tribulations, how she kept things and the family together, and still we made it through without a dad who bailed on us. This song is for you, Mom. You were the greatest.
She will always carry on. 1992 RIP Mom. I will always speak her name. You not here but always remembered . I knew you for 23 years , but that was a life time for me. Miss you so much , i know you can see your grand daughters . Love you Mom.
The pure emotion of this song brings tears to my eyes every time i hear it. Chrissy Hind is without a doubt the best vocal talent to grace the earth for a long time.
@@rjjcms1 yeah, I was 8. I remember all the songs from that era though and it’s probably my favourite era for easy listening stuff, where as if I put on a radio station that plays current music I’ll turn it off within a minute.
One of the most underrated singers of all time. A rare, distinictive voice. She's such a tasteful singer too. Never does too much, or overpowers the song.
Wow, A song about THE Lady. And from the eighties. I don't know how I missed this. It is one of my favorite songs and an absolute masterpiece, I'm glad others are enjoying it..
True talent. Before women thought that to be a star you had to shed your clothes. I was first inspired by this band when i was 15 Im now 51 and have seen music change (not in a good way) for women muso's but now and then some stand out like Chrissie and Tracey Chapman
Hate to burst your bubble Belinda but I've known Chrissie since firestone high school in Akron ohio. She would be the first to tell you that is good in theory but not reality. True women that started the rock movement on there own accord were bands like the Fanny... Much respect for them as they were not only good, but true professionals as musicians.
This was the year I lost my mother and I can be in the car to this day and thinking about her and it will come on the radio. I believe at these times she is still around me and trying to comfort me. Beautiful song with so much meaning to me and my beautiful mum ❤️
Occasionally, and usually accidentally, I hear the latest song by one of these female vocalists who have just become popular due to their exposure on some crappy TV talent show, and all I hear each time a new track is released is the same old Mariah Carey impersonation as the last one. They all sound exactly the same to me. I could very easily get this year's X Factor winner mixed up with last year's X Factor winner, because there is nothing unique about these people's voices. Some artists, on the other hand, you can easily identify on their first couple of notes, and not be able to mistake them for anyone else. For me, Chrissie is one of these.
+Throatwobbler Mangrove Chrissie has been around since I was a teenager. It's impossible to compare the real art of the 70s and 80s to the commercialism of today. I agree.
Heard this shortly after the birth of my Son having lost my Mum two years previously, and the lyrics just grabbed me, especially 'Something is lost, something is found.' I've loved it ever since.
This song now resonates with me so much and it is one that I only understand as I approach 50. It is about the divine feminine; the maiden, the mother and the crone. The video hints with the star in the background and the full moon and singing around the fire, So beautiful.
@@MrsSlocombesPuddyCat same here...never a mother...now approaching crone..but understood it well when I first heard it 35 years ago...brings the same tears of sorrow and joy..
First heard it as a maiden, when my own mother played it for me. I had since lost my connection with my mother, we grew distant, now practically estranged. Decades later, pregnant, months away from motherhood myself, i sang it with women entering their Crone stage around a campfire at a women's retreat, celebrating the divine feminine. I sobbed while singing, mourning the relationship with my mother, welcoming my own motherhood, and the connection I had found with the women around me, seen and unseen. Something is lost, something is found. Never had a more beautiful experience.
Mom, you did a terrific job raising me and my younger sis on your own as a single parent. You will always have a secure place in my heart, now and forever. Bless you, mom. So it be.
Just been watching Whitehouse and Mortimer fishing on tv. Bob Mortimer's Dad died when he was about 6, so his mother brought up 4 boys without their father. This is the song they played - a real tear jerker!
I loved this song when it came out and I hadn't heard it for years until I watch that programme ..was a great choice of song to go with what Bob had been talking about ...felt even more sad for him when I heard the song .
Played this on the jukebox at the Crown at High Newton for a girl I fancied. She was called Heather. I was just getting my head and life back together, after a traumatic divorce. Wife ran off and left me with 2 kids and a mountain of debt. Must have impressed her, we're still together 33 years later. My kids, my 3 lovely granddaughters and myself love her so much. Love you HeathX🏴☠️🦊
Sorry to hear of that. The loss of a parent is hard (I know that at present) but to lose your child is incalculably more heartbreaking. I hope for you and your family and friends to find strength from each other.
It is one of my favorite songs and an absolute masterpiece, I'm glad others are enjoying it.. Another perfect vocal from Chrissie. Just effortless so natural
I've loved this song for nearly 35 years and woke up this particular morning with it buzzing in my head. Chrissie Hind has one of those unique and timeless female voices which transport you to another place. She comes from a time when women singers were strong and talented. Let's not forget Robbie McIntosh's superb guitar work and the sublime drum track from the inimitable Simon Phillips.
Now i not a huge fan of the Pretenders ,i only heard this song for the first time last night and i thought WOW who is it i must learn it straight away,to me this is an ode to your mother, grandma, sister, friend, niece. You know a good song when it makes you go cold, goosebumpy, lump in your throat and tears in your eyes.
I love this song more than I would like to almost sounds like mysticism but it's the highest praise a daughter could sing to her mom! I love you, Chrissy. Thanks for your gift your voice!!! Monroe in tune.
I heard a bit of this song from a United Nation Advert almost 20 years ago but I didn't know it was an actual song and I lost the lyrics too. I had to hum it on Google voice search, and found it. So refreshing, reminds me of home when dad was still alive. Thank you
There's a reason why thus beautiful song is in my head. I just don't why ....just yet. Love it. Love you mum and to all the sing,e mothers and the mothers no longer here with us you will always be spoken of and loved. 💞❤️💞
My mom died a year ago today. She was 93years10months and 12 days. I thought I would not miss her as I was blessed to have her for so long but there we go a small tear but she would say hey what's wrong?? cheer up mate:)
💜💙💜 this song 🎶 I had this song, and an Elvis song played at my mama's funeral in 09 ~it still rips my heart strings, when I hear it ~ I know I will see her again, in Heaven above... I miss & love you dearly, my sweet mama 😘 Please take care of my baby boy, until I join you...
I am very surprised that so many people did not get the meaning of these lyrics. Yes, it's about mothership, but not ''mothers'', it's about ''The Mother''. It's a hymn to Triple Goddess of Wiccans. Triple Goddess is ''triple'' because of her three aspects, first is the Maiden (symbolized by waxing crescent Moon), second is the Mother (symbolized by Full Moon) and the last is the Crone (symbolized by waning crescent Moon). Since she is very connected to nature and women ''she will always carry on'' means even though a lot of people hurt nature and women, she will still fight and cary on. ''They will keep on speaking of her name'' is a reference about ''the Mother Goddess'' figure is found in many parts of history and many civilizations, like Diana of etruscans, Artemis of Ephesusians, Cybele of Anatolians, Umay of Turks etc. ''The things you don't show'' means as she is also very connected to magic, she hides it from non-magical people. ''I'll dress as your daughter when Moon becomes round'' It's the most clear reference, round Moon means Full Moon, Full Moon is a symbol of the Mother aspect also Wiccan esbats (celebrations kind of like holy mass) take place in Full Moons and Goddess is usually the central figure of esbats. Also, it's not maid and the mother, it's ''The Maiden, the Mother and the Crone that grew old'', Maiden-Mother-Crone is the triple aspect of the Goddess.
+Angelos Brimo Thank you for your clear explanation. I am aware many people think of this song thusly and you justify that convincingly...However, i think the more conventional understanding of personal motherhood-daughterhood and its evolution from womb to tomb , with roles changing at the extremes yet still great love and devotion works at an emotional level for most of us non wiccans/non pagans. Many of us are lucky enough to take care of our loving mothers late in life and to pay back and complete the circle.... many metaphors such as full moons work also as "code" for groups. I do not know if the author was a wiccan.. apparently a HS class mate of Chryssie. Has she ever weighed in? most great songs can mean what you want or need them to mean. I do not believe in jesus (as anything- I even doubt his historical existance but am open to that as a possibility) yet many love songs written for him work better to my mind as love between a man and a woman
Angelos Brimo Very close but the reference is used as more as, Mother nature created us and mother nature wants all mothers to pass on the meaning of birth. Very good but you missed Somethings change and some stay the same. Means change in generation
Very good Video wonder it was taken some winters place.Chrissie was a fox the buns to die for she married 2rockers the mainstay of the Band American/English lovely voice fave song of theirs. The Drummer,Piano and Bass Player as well as the Guitarist all happy and passionate which u don't see often when u see them here amazing
This was a favourite of my ex-wife. We divorced acrimoniously many years later. I don't know what prompted me to play it again, but it makes me sad for what might have been. An absolute masterpiece.
