Dennis James was an old pro, having many years of MC-ing on TV and radio under his belt before landing the TPiR gig, and it shows--completely comfortable and in control in this type of spontaneous setting. That's what today's game shows are missing--veteran MCs who don't appear awkward
@tvtimetravel He sure was and he also treated Legendary Model Janice Pennington very well and Tom Kennedy is also a Class Act and he, too also treated Janice and the Models very well also.
It was during the grocery game with Dennis James that a woman with 10 children figured out that Milk Duds at 15¢ each totalled 6.75 exactly! She won and poor Janice couldn't figure out how to add it on the Cash Register!
What mic was Dennis James using during this episode? I saw him (and Gene Rayburn on Match Game '73, the first season before switching over to a Sony ECM-51 telescopic mic for the rest of the series' run) using it regularly until 1976 when he switched to a Shure SM-61 for that season.
Sorry, but I prefer both Dennis James and Tom Kennedy over Barker and Carey and Bill Cullen tops Barker and Drew as well, Doug Davidson was a Pretty Good Host, but the formats stunk, but it's not his fault though.
You know why he was irritated? Rosalinda didn't get the rules of the grocery game, AND, she was very hesitant when choosing the products. All in all, she was stupid, and I think that was the reason why he was irritated.
