@@tomservo56954 correct, I just caught one that was updated recently and had a Mink Showcase that was $20,763.45 that included a $9000 Rudolph Deutsch ring and a $8000 mink coat. And surprisingly, the winner was .5c under the target price, not on the nose. Inflation wise, this was luxury at its highest at $230,786.12 for 2024.

Oh, thank goodness the viewers back then didn't have to live through another half hour of the comedy stylings of Mr. Legato. No doubt a nice man, good husband and father, hard worker, and all, but, I suppose, much too nervous. Bill is reminding Ms. Lutes that she has only five seconds and Mr. Legato is taking twenty seconds to put in his bids while delivering his asides. If this is around 1957, then Ms. Rice's total for two weeks would be the equivalent of about $186,000 in prizes today. Goodson and Todman were not chintzy with the evening version of the show. I wonder if she kept or sold the bracelet to pay the taxes on everything else. Nice carpet and dining room set. There was one big problem with this old version of TPIR. Whoever got the bracelet was bound to be the champion. Didn't make any difference how well you did on the other prizes. The wide divergence in the values meant you would lose if you didn't win the bracelet. The current version pits every contestant who gets to the stage against the wheel for a chance to be in the Showcase Showdown, in effect the championship round, no matter how much or little they had won before. You can still get into the Showcase Showdown with a chance to be the big winner even if you won only $500 in prizes while someone else won a car, only made possible because the producers gave them a chance to win a car in their pricing game and you didn't have that chance. That is much fairer. Bill Cullen was a gem of a host. He hosted the $25,000 Pyramid in 1977 when I was a contestant with Phyllis George and Jack Klugman and he seemed such a nice guy. Thank you for posting this and your other videos.

Geez, get a grip. Legato didn't take any longer to answer than any other contestant normally does on these episodes. Did you know this Legato guy personally and dislike him or what?
