It's when God raises his voice then goes to him and says, "Oh Moses". Almost as if he's picking him up to hug him like a father does with his toddler. I shed a tear every time. I miss my father.

So many emotions but the most prominent is JOY that brings me to tears!! For the lord is with us! Always now and forever! He made the mute, seeing, and blind, he delivers on his promises and is ALMIGHTY and GOOD GOD!!
Everyone's covered how great the acting is but let's not forget this score. Zimmer captured PERFECTLY what it feels like to be called by the Spirit. Awe-inspiring, peaceful and at times, terrifying.
Not to mention the amazing songs from Deliver Us to When you Believe. They’re nearly operatic with how impactful and resonating they are. I wish some would be used in services:)
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
It’s number 25, 26, or 27 on my list. I can’t recall off the top of my head which one as both The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Passion of the Christ are right next to it.
I’m an atheist, and this film means so much to me. It’s a great story of finding your purpose, standing up for others, being compassionate, having the courage to fight for your freedom.
Wow, they really captured this interchange perfectly. When the bush admonishes him, you feel the full wrath of the glory of God. But as Moses is overwhelmed by this, the bush comes to him tenderly with the complete understanding and compassion that only God could bring.
I dunno, I always found this scene scary as a kid. As an adult, it plays more like an abusive boyfriend who first yells at you and then comforts you afterwards. It's a bit disconcerting to be honest. I don't feel anything anxiety watching this now
I just love how everyone who worked on this scene went out of their way to make this seen so tender and chilling to watch all at the same time. Its a beautiful representation of the God of the Bible.
Crazy 4 years to make this film and such an amazing awe inspiring chilling(in a good way) movie! The emotion in the animated characters faces and movements is Amazing!! Even when they aren’t speaking you can see all emotion in movement and facial expressions God blessed these people with these talents and hard work ethics to get this movie out to people! Don’t even get me started in the soundtrack that and Gods word with this scene brings me to tears of joy!!! God Bless!
@@michaelturnage3395 yeah, it’s important that people understand that although God is a loving compassionate God, he is also a just God that is firm and like you said, capable of righteous anger
I will always love this quote: "Who made man's mouth? Who made the deaf, the mute, the seeing, or the blind? Did not I? Now go!" The way he spoke softly and and bursts like thunder. I love this depiction of God, for being both the smiting and the caring of all living creatures of the world.
I think the part of God's anger to moses was also clear in the Bible when Moses made so much excuses. It was said in Exodus 4:14 Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.
Creating needless suffering to prove the point that “I can make you suffer, but I won’t as long as you’re faithful to me”? From what I can tell, god allowed suffering of his people, let it continue for a while til he decided “nah, they’ve had enough”, then killed the innocents of the other population who did nothing wrong. Sounds like your god is more than a little petulant and abusive, and perhaps a bit genocidal
What I love about this scene - the voice of God is a mixture of all of the actors’ voices. The whispers, sighs, shouted overlays, etc. The voice that is the most prominent is the voice of Moses (Val Kilmer). In one of the behind the scenes, a producer said that they did this to show the how in Genesis, God breathed His life into man, and so God speaks His truth through those around us and speaks internally to us (our own inner voice). If you listen closely, you can pick out the voice of Rameses(Ralph Fines), Miriam(Sandra Bullock), Aaron (Jeff Goldbloom), and Tzipporah(Michelle Pfifer), Jethro (Donald Glover), Etc.
"the voice of God is a mixture of all of the actors’ voices" That kinda makes sense. When the apostle John saw Jesus in all His post-resurrection glory, he said that "His voice was like the roar of many waters." (Revelation 1:15)
@LITTLE1994 The idea is that if all human beings possess a soul, then certainly an element of the divine is in everyone. Making everyone the voice of God captures this sentiment.

Whenever I’m having a difficult point in my life, I rewatch this scene. It reminds me that although life is difficult, that once we let go of our fear and learn to trust in the power of god that we can truly overcome and do amazing things. I cry every time.
This spoke to me. I got pulled over and went to jail for driving while intoxicated and I this is my first ever offense when it comes to the law. I was afraid and sad of my actions and prayed to God for repentance and I strongly believe that God is with me every step of my trial in court. Many people have been supporting and comforting me in my moment of shame and disappointment. The Devil wanted to take me out that night but God allowed me to get pulled over and learn my lesson. I am working towards getting closer to God because without him. Things could have been worse. Just wanted to share this because the shame is overwhelming sometimes but I know that the devil wants me to feel sad but God comforts me and reminds me that he’s with me every step of the way. God Bless and Pray for me
Interestingly, this is the first place in Scripture that we are told God gets angry, and its because Moses doesn't trust him. As a result the priesthood falls to Aaron, separated from the intended leader.
Moses was so human in this film. To have to play the role of being God's messenger was terrifying and it would mean he would go through so much. It would even lead to him to allowing the Angel of Death to kill his nephew and completely breaking his relationship with Ramses, someone he really loved and wanted to be with if only the situation was different. It's even in the lyrics "and even now I wish that God had chosen another". Moses was portrayed to be a person just trying his best to finish his duty but it didn't mean that he was this brave, fearless, all-wise leader. He was scared, confused, and suffered mostly through this journey which is how most people would feel if they were in the same position.
Exactly he even stuttered where they fail to show in this movie. “But Moses pleaded to the LORD, “even though you talk to your servant now I am slow of speech and get tongue tied.” Then that’s when God told him who makes “the deaf the and the blind”
@@Thraxxx03 I think they were doing their best to represent what happened in Exodus, but if it was everything, then the movie would've been too long. And I think they tweaked or changed a few things in the story, to communicate the underlined message of the passage as well... Overall they did a great job
That's what I love about Moses. He's human. He's vulnerable. And he's relatable. He's not the typical brain dead mussel head of a male protagonist or the stereotypical flawless hero who never falters from their conviction. No, hes a real person with a real goal and a real personality. He takes no pride or pleasure in what he has to do. Which makes watching him go through his journey all the more awe inspiring and powerful.
It blows my mind that Dreamworks made this masterpiece. This studio has made some great films in the past: Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train your dragon. However I’m fully in the belief that this is Dreamworks’ best film ever, and one of the best animated films ever. I think it’ll be a long time before another film like this one will be made.
Likely to be the best they'll ever make given how much care this film demanded. They had the weight of two faiths to bear while also not alienating an increasingly secular if not religiously antagonistic audience.
3:00 Who made eyes 👀, ears👂 and mouth 👄 ?! Who made the hearing, the deaf, the speaking 🗣, the mute 🤐, the seeing, or the blind?! Did not He?! Now go!?
Its so wonderful how when God explains that he is the one and only to moses and that he has made the mute, deaf, seeing, and blind that the theme in the background shows his justice and mercy being played in sequence. ITS SO AWESOME
Yes. That cause through this God cant explain his nature to Moses, cause it too complex. It also imply He have no Name. Cause Name given to someone by someome who was born. But since God never born, he always just was, that why he have No Name. And that why he just say I AM: I always was. The Greatness of it really impress.
It also seems to me that God is the only being that actually IS. As in, all the rest of us (angels, humans, animals, plants) exist only _through_ Him. As if being cast into existance and kept in existance by the delicate yet firm thread of His breath, His word. We exist, because He continually wills us into existance. But that is just speculation on my part. God's nature is beyond any possible understanding by any of his creatures.
You can know for sure once you are saved and born again by the blood of Jesus Christ. Analyze yourself with the 10 commandments. If you broke even one then you're a criminal in God's eyes and if you die in your sins you'll end up in hell. But when you repent and put your faith into the death and ressurection of Jesus Christ as payment for your sins, you'll be saved and born again. God bless you
The line "How can I even SPEAK to these people?!" is a nice little abridged version. He literally meant by the term 'speak' in the bible, saying “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant, for I am slow of speech and tongue." God didn't want to hear any excuses because He chose Moses and that was that. Which is why the first question was "who made man's mouth?" The LORD did, and He makes no mistakes. Also a little fact when Moses was making excuses showed he feared the people more than The LORD. That changed quickly as soon as God raised his voice afterwards. This is still my favorite scene in the entire movie bar none and still tear up to this day, the music composed by Hans Zimmer is still fantastic, some believe the Holy Spirit came in to help him with this score.
There’s something ironic or poetic that the man who plays both the stuttering prophet and the God who made the prophet stutter in this movie would one day no longer be able to speak himself.
I remember hearing a a researcher say that Moses probably had a stutter of some kind. This is probably one reason Aaron helped with a lot of the big talking.
Moses gave God 5 excuses for why he shouldn't be the one to go to Egypt. 1. "Me?! who am I to lead these people?" 2. "They'll never believe me." 3. "They wont even listen" 4. "But I was their enemy, I was the prince of Egypt. The son of the man who slaughtered their children." 5. "How can I even speak to these people?" Then declared that God has "chosen the wrong messenger" No wonder God got upset with him. And lets not forget that in the actual story, God gave concession to his objections. Showed him many signs and Moses still objected. And yet, don't we all do the same thing? Then, God immediately comforts Moses and assures him that He will be with him. A very powerful scene.
In the Bible is very clear that God has emotions, has thoughts (not always right, it is written!) and doesn't know the future, he just want to change the present. These days the church changed a lot the meaning of God like an entity that is perfect, knows everything and is everywhere. I really prefer the Bible version of God as it is really more similar to us (it is written that he made us like him, so if we have doubts, anger, love and dreams, so does he). That is why we should love god but not what priests and churchs tell us
I listened to this through my car aux today, when God raised his voice with his rushing wind, my seat literally shook and I could feel my legs start to go limp. I’ve listened to worship music before on walks and I can feel wind even when I don’t see the trees blowing at all. What’s crazy is that these experiences don’t even begin to compare to what it’ll be like to stand in the presence of God! That day’s gonna be so amazingly overwhelming and I can hardly wait! Praise His name in heaven and on earth! ❤

The part where God says who made man's mouth always gives me chills, but what makes me tear up is right after when he says so tender and lovingly "oh Moses" like a parent comforting their child after a scolding.
Jesus did the same to his disciples. I recalled one of the disciples asked Jesus to send down fire to destroy city and Jesus rebuked him saying he came to save which was lost and not to destroy it.
Jesus, being God, did the same thing as well. Although He has ultimate authority, He also loves us dearly as well. That's why he comforts us in our hardest times.
I kinda like to imagine that God showed Moses the absolute beauty of the cosmos, and how complex and unified everything really is. At least, to this interpretation.
DUDE.......THATS EXACTLY WHAT HE DID!!!!! As if to say "its ok my son, I am GOD.....i know what I'm doing" when God starts yelling, moses isn't just hearing the words spoken, WHAT MUST HE BE SEEING......when Moses shut his eyes and collapsed......he was shown eternity.......so beautiful, don't care how cheesy this may sound but praise jesus......our creator
Both of you guys are right :), god’s presence is the beauty of the cosmos and the unity of creation. It’s like looking at fireworks, so insanely incredible it’s impossible to put into words
I always liked the imagine of it just god showing his true face to Moses as a way of saying "I shall always be with you my child" and Moses seeing something that very few alive have ever seen and live to tell the tale cried because of the pure compassion and love in gods eyes
I don't know why but when God in this scene says that he'll smite them with all his wonders I can't help but say that I'm thankful that we have such a strong, yet soft and caring god....it simply leaves me in awe.

I remember my mother taking me seeing this at a local theater when I was 8 years old; it came out the same time as A Bug's Life. No disrespect to Pixar as they put out beautiful films too, but it was heartbreaking to see the theater nearly empty for The Prince of Egypt and a full house for the former. Seeing it was such a moving beautiful and powerful experience that's remained with me for 23 years. This scene brought me to tears then and it still does now. Peace be with you.

C.Y. Views Not too many fairy tales give detailed facts in the end of the final days like the book of revelation. Which are literally unfolding as i write this.
After going through this story in the "Bible in a Year" podcast on Exodus, I couldn't help but want to watch this clip again because I remembered how good it visually displayed the burning bush, Moses/God's conversation, and music to add the extra emotions to it. Watching this now, I really appreciate how when Moses cowers when God tells him to Go even though he doesn't feel he should be his messenger, he comes to comfort him like a good parental figure would do in a similar circumstance. Our parents always push us to be the best versions of ourselves even when it makes us uncomfortable and even though we might doubt ourselves, our parents will typically and without pause remind us how they're with us no matter what! I know that God and our loved ones are with us, but you can't help but imagine how shaken up Moses was after hearing from the Lord himself that God will be with him because it's what any Christian would always cherish to the end of their days!
I love how the burning bush is the presence of God in the midst of basically a lifeless bush and as the conversation between God and Moses goes on, the bush itself revives and grows back into a full, lively bush. I don’t know if it happened like that in the biblical version but I love that they did this in the movie. It is just a powerful example of how just God’s presence can give life to the dead.
Because Jesus said his words are spirit and life. Thats why when I read the Bible I am filled and not hunger of the flesh. The flesh hungers for wickedness and dark places but the spirit is alive.

_"Who made Man's mouth!? Who made the deaf, the mute, the seeing, or the blind!? Did not I?! Now go!"_ I get literal chills every time which is matched only by how reassuring it is by what follows.
The funny thing is, that was Christ the entire time talking to Moses. OLD TESTAMENT Exodus 3:13-14 "And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you." NEW TESTAMENT John 8:56-58 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM."
@@cipherknowledge3555 You left out the part that when Jesus said "Before Abraham was I am." The Jews were going to stone Him to death for blasphemy. The knew "I Am" was a title specific to God. Jesus using that title was Him admitting in a subtle way but one they would catch that He is God.
For anyone curious, God still does this miracle of the fire not burning you (as depicted in the film) every year on Greek Orthodox Easter. A priest is locked in the Holy Sepulcher (Christs tomb), where both the tomb and chosen priest is inspected to make sure there is no trickery to be had (e.g, lighters, matches, flint and steel, etc.). The priest is then locked in there, and he prays until God lights a fire on a candle, in which this candle does not die out until every person attending the ceremony has lit their candles, and this fire does not burn those who hold it to their skin, nor does it burn the clothing. Truly, God is amazing. Praise be to the Almighty!!
For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son that who so ever believe in him shall not perish, but have ever lasting life. Moses is a good example of how we believe God can't use or forgive us due to any sin we have committed or who we might be. Let God work through you. Let God forgive you of your sins and turn away from them. Then you'll feel the holy spirit which is what Moses felt when God comforted him and guided him. Cry out to Jesus and he will not turn you away. You might laugh at my comment now, but we all come to terms with God at some point in this life and for sure the next. I pray for whoever you are that you know Jesus loves you so much and he will deliver and make a difference in your life. Trust in him just like Moses did. In Jesus's holy name...Amen.
We're talking about how Val Kilmer made this scene what it is even years from now, and I'm not arguing that aspect, but we also forget the instrumentals that made it possible as well- Hans Zimmer's best work, I'd say, is the 7 minutes and 17 seconds of the OST The Burning Bush for this movie. I listen to it- it along with this movie, was what made me question my atheism for the longest time before turning to God. hearing Hans Zimmer's Burning Bush made me feel like weeping with how overwhelmed my emotions became. I felt wonder, awe, fear, questioning myself and Him, I felt self-0hatred for what I did before, and what I've become now, and eventually I began crying because I felt forgiveness for myself from somewhere I didn't have within me. I can say with full confidence, that I feel as if God is with me now, where I had doubts I had no right to have before. all that from one actor and one musical composer... Hans Zimmer and Val Kilmer are legends in this movie, and may they NEVER be forgotten.
This scene moves me to tears. Every time I hear “WHO MADE MAN’S MOUTH?” It floors me. So often I’ll get caught up in my head, trying to convince myself that my inner struggles are too great, even for my lord, who literally parted the sea. If he can part the sea or so, so much more, who am I to try and convince myself that he can’t know the inner turmoil in my heart? From the first time I saw this movie at like 8 years old to now as a 31 year old man, for some reason this burning bush is how I imagine God. The same God we hear here shouting and whispering simultaneously. The same God whose angels Felled Lucifer. The same God who sent his son to save us and so, so much more. That God can do such thing and so much more yet still have such a powerful hand on our life and know us and love us beyond our comprehension is flooring yet so assuring in the darkest times. “I am that I am.” No matter how much or how little I try to explain that statement to myself, I kind of like being aware that God’s being is beyond our comprehension. All Praise be to the lord of lords.
Do you truly want to know? Ask him to reveal himself. Sincerely with all of your soul. He will make himself known. If he can do it for me, he can do it for you.
God today I face my greatest challenge to date, even though I may fear it and don’t feel strong enough. I know you are with me and are guiding me through this rough storm. Glory to you in everything you do🙏🏻
I cried when God said I AM THAT I AM. That struck me to my heart as if he was talking to me directly. The majesty of the LORD GOD! WHAT AN AWESOME GOD HE IS! THERE IS NONE LIKE HIM! KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS, SOVEREIGN KING OF THE UNIVERSE! THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME!
4 years since my last comment on this video and I cannot praise the absolute beauty of this scene enough, it moved me when I was younger and it still does today. I love how mature the story of Moses and the Passover is, yet even while I was learning it as a kid I (and the rest of my Sunday school classmates) was not really disturbed by its contents. Even children are intelligent enough to comprehend these sorts of themes and events. The filmmakers could've incorporated more detailed depictions of the unsavory details in Exodus but chose to remain tactful, while not being afraid the show the harsh realities of people who lived in those times. People of all ages can watch, enjoy, and reflect upon this masterpiece.
This movie was legendary. As a Christian theologian I had pretty much no complaints since it's understandable that the movie takes certain little freedoms. I still think that it is good to remember that biblically, Moses never had a good relationship with the Pharao, and that the woman who adopted Moses was very powerful and the only one able to defy the Pharao who ordered the genocide. Also, the Pharao who was alive when Moses went into exile, died during that time. Moses came back 40 years later as an 80 year old man to face a new Pharao (not Ramses, altough there is a debate among conservatives and liberals on the dating of Exodus). For those interested in this you can order Eugene H. Merril's book - The Kingdom of Priests Btw, when you read Acts 7 it would seem that Moses always knew who he was and was seeking to deliver them by his power (This explains why he killed the Egyptin beating a hebrew slave) but God had to humble him and teach him that it is not him but God who will deliver His people.
2:54 "WHO MADE MAN'S MOUTH? WHO MADE THE DEAF, THE MUTE, THE SEEING OR THE BLIND? DID NOT I? NOW GO!" And then picking him up and the light in Moses'es eyes. This is legitimately the most beautiful scene in this movie.
What I like about this is how, while from God's perspective, He's right to be angry when Moses questions Him and His judgement God quickly calms down, seeing how scared Moses is and remembering that humans are flawed beings that lack divine perspective, basically embraces him like a parent would a child and softly tells him it will be alright and he need not be afraid.
I've always loved this scene. I'm in no way religious by any means; but when G-d tells Moses, "I'm am the god of your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob..." and Moses is like, yeah..better take off those sandals now...that's just priceless.
@@rich2209 judging by the censorship of his name, OP is a Jew. Jews and Muslims are still our siblings in the Lord. Their G-d and their Allah is our God.
Anytime I hear the name moses or if someone mentions something from the Bible I automatically think of this beautiful classic scene. It's a real shame DreamWorks doesn't make any more movies based on the Bible. This has to be my favorite animated movie of all time with no hesitation. I would really love a DreamWorks movie based on Samson and Delilah or David and Goliath.
This theme is the furthest back I can possibly go in my memories. While I don’t have a specific memory tied to it, I remember hearing it and feeling almost enchanted, way back when I was 3 or 4 in preschool. Words just cannot describe it.
I just noticed that when God admonishes him, he's not raising his voice in an angry or scolding way. He's doing it to prove his strength and wisdom as a reassurance that he KNOWS Moses is the man for the job, then becomes quieter when he realizes Moses misunderstood his tone as wrath. Sort of like "Ha, you think I would make a mistake like that? LOOK UPON ME, AND KNOW MY- oh right, you aren't used to that sort of thing."
Oh my goodness I never noticed until watching this in higher quality but at 4:06 if you look closely, Moses sheds a tear and then his hand trembles after. In the presence of God, our Lord Jesus Christ we cannot help but cry from the joy He provides. It's indescribable and beautiful ❤
2:41 I love that when God talks, you see wind coming through. God's Spirit in Hebrew is often called Ruach(רוּחַ) which has other meanings that reflect the God's Spirit, two of which are breath and wind.
The scene where god raises his tone and moses cowers relates to me of a dream i had that god showed me the end if the world and when i was under attack in it he rescued me, no doubt the scariest thing ive ever dreamt of
It is. I won't lie,a few years ago rediscovering this film helped me in a long and difficult journey where I rediscovered my faith. I am not a Christian. I am not a Jew. But I believe firmly in Providence, the Creator.
People are so caught up in religion it is not about being religious JESUS never commanded us to be religious it’s about a relationship with GOD with JESUS it’s personal.
@@BioHunter1990 You have not yet discovered God, for to know God, the creator of all things, you must know Christ first. For me one of the most intense things in this scene is when god tells moses what to say, "let my people go". This had not been said by moses yet, makes me think of what is said in the bible. "I am the alpha and the omega the first and the last, the beginning and the end." Nothing is hidden from god and thats why there is something called faith, god is in control🙏🙏🙏
As a child the book of exodus was my favourite by far, im 30 now, and a massive alcoholic to be honest, but in my warped and gnarled soul I still love the bible, I actually wanted to be a monk (Benedictine) and help people not harm them
I was a little kid when this movie came out. Now I'm 28 years old, and the feeling of this scene is even more impactful now. Truly a scene that is timeless.
