I highly recommend reading the book. 😎 Fun Fact: The voice of God, to avoid controversy, was played by all of the major actors. The actors were told to whisper the lines, so none would dominate the performance, but by the time they got around to having Val Kilmer read his lines, they realized they needed someone to be louder. You still can hear the rest of the cast whispering beneath Kilmer's voice in God's lines.

Wel Heston besides being Moses was also the voice in the Burning Bush. However he was not the voice of God when receiving the Ten Commandments.

The Hebrew is from Jewish prayers. “A-shir-ra i'a-do-nai ki ga-oh ga-oh” means “I will sing to Adonai (the Hebrew substitute for God) for he has triumphed gloriously.” Then they sing “Mi-cha-mo-cha ne-dar-ba-ko-desh” which means “Who is like you, O God, among the gods that are worshiped? Who is like You, majestic in holiness.” Finally, they sing “Na-chi-tah v'-chas-d'-cha am zu ga-al-ta” which means “In Your love, You lead the people You redeemed.” In the Bible, the Israelites sang the Mi Chamocha prayer immediately after the Red Sea closed, drowning the Egyptians.

Wow this brought me back. I sang “When You Believe” for my senior recital in college and had to include all translations in my program. I had one girl with me on stage for the duet and then when the Hebrew section started I had my music fraternity stand in the back of the auditorium and join in so it was like surround sound. A lot of them struggled with the Hebrew pronunciations. Especially the “ch” sound.

Something I do like abut Prince of Egypt more than The Ten Commandments. Moses actually says to Tzipporah/Sephora "I love you." Nothing big and dramatic, no mini speeches, nothing about former loves now lost, just a simple gesture of pushing her hair out of the way, kissing her cheek and whispering "I love you" before leaving to tend to the sheep. I don't remember Moses of 'The Ten Commandments' ever doing something as simple as that.

One of the things that makes the Prince of Egypt work so well is that it's NOT a Bible movie; it's more of an animated historical drama about a Biblical event, and as such it's more a HUMAN story than anything else. They really take the time to build the humanity in each of the characters, and show how they care for and play off of each other.

The bush scene I love, because it's how God speaks to us his spirit to our spirit. It's his voice in our heads, sounding like us, like we do to ourselves when thinking to ourselves - but also totally different because it's things we would never say or think to ourselves. Also hearing the voices of those who have spoken to us, through our memories, is another way God communicates. So it makes sense to use the same actor for both voices. And replaying others lines & voices to depict it as recent audible memories is brilliant. He left because even though Rameses said he can pardon him, Moses couldn't continue to watch his people be enslaved, in that same position. He couldn't go back to not knowing, what he didn't know. Scripturally, some Egyptians did go with the Israelites when they exited Egypt.... But the whole "brothers" theme is a huge license being taken. As long as the viewer knows that, I see no harm in it....

@@brigidtheirish + My condolences for you regarding your sister. It is my belief that you will see her again. And thank you for sharing that experience. My first pregnancy I miscarried. I had 2 lovely daughters 16 months apart after that. They are adults now. And several years later, I had a son through an affair, as I felt very unloved my whole life up to that point. I was terrified, because I knew I could not care for the baby alone. I did something I never thought I would ever do in a million years, & actually "considered" abortion. Ultimately I prayed & told God I was scared, & asked him to show me what to do. I did not yet have a "relationship" with him, anything like I do now. At that point, I was scared & grasping at straws. When the baby came, he had many complications & issues, & was on life support. After 7 hours they came & asked if I wanted to take him off life support, & I agreed. I didn't grieve or mourn him. I loved him. But I felt relieved. I felt like God was letting me off the hook. I felt like it was answered prayer. My girls Dad - who was not willing to help raise a child not his own, was in the end willing to help pay for funeral costs & arrangements. I named him after my long lost Twin Brother whom I had not yet found at that time. We had been separated at 4 years old by closed adoption. We found each other, & our oldest brother on my Mom's side back in 1996. Then in 1999, our oldest brother was shot in the chest & killed. In Sept. 2020 we finally found our birth mother & her side of the family. She died Oct. 2021. We had a little over a year with her. Still looking for our Birth Father & his side of the family. Yes God is still answering prayer...

The ram's horn trumpet used on the Jewish High Holidays is called a shofar. It's pretty cool. The song--at least in part--is the "Mi chamocha" (Who is like you, O God, among the gods that are worshiped? / Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in splendor, working wonders?), which is still sung in standard services--one of the oldest songs on record. The movie uses a lot of Jewish biblical traditions (like the dangerous ride down the river in the basket, Moses' snake eating the priests' snakes, and the idea that multitude went out of Egypt, including Egyptians who decided to go along with them).

Oh yes but many years before Jacob who was later called Israel stole from his brother Esua. He stole what was called Esua's birth right - Esua and Jacob were twin but Esau was first. By virtue of that position Esua had to have the fathers blessing. Esua was hairy and Jacob wasn't. Jacob pretended to be Esau by putting animal skin on - going to their father and stealing the blessing. God was angry with that level of deception and their father cursed Jacob. That his descendants would serve for 400 years another. So the slavery was prophecy being fulfilled.

The voice actor for Moses and God through the burning bush is the same person! They decided to do it this way because it was done in the Ten Commandments; its their homage to the original film.

If you mean the Jewish ram horn instrument used before and in Jewish New Year celebration (Rosh HaShana), it's called shofar.

I like how they used the voice of Moses as the voice of God, cos it's like God is speaking through you and so Moses hears his own voice...see if you can find the story of Joseph

Voctave did a medley of the songs from this movie and it is amazing. Also,. If you havent seen Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat with Donny Osmond, You must watch it for yourself, even if not for the channel. It's so great and full of so many wonderful songs

Also, the plague of the firstborn was not some thing that was directly towards the Egyptian. It was toward anybody. Hebrews that did not mark their door, died. Egyptian‘s that chose to listen, and there were some, and they marked their door, they were spared. It had to do with listening. Following commands. It wasn’t just death for all the Egyptians. It was death for anybody that did not heed the warning

28:30, if you ever have the chance, you should look up the video of Brian Stokes Mitchell (the singing voice of Jethro) singing Look Through Heaven's Eyes with the Mormon Taberancle Choir! It's beautiful and Mitchell has a wonderful stage presence as he sings!

Right, set to watch this one. I can't join patreon but I'll make a suggestion here. I know you've got Saving Private Ryan and I'm guessing you've probably had calls for Schindler's List. Hacksaw Ridge is another one you should seriously consider, about a medic in WW2 who doesn't want to touch or fire a weapon due to his religious beliefs. It's a jawdropper. Even if you're not a religious person (and I'm not) the performances are inspiring and outstanding.

The thing about the movie "The 10 Commandments" is that it was one of those massive movies that was made to be on the level of a Boadway performance, then it be shown to a limited audience before being shown to the general audience. Basically, take the Lord of the Rings movies which were filmed at the same time and rather then having 3 films you have 1 large film with nothing removed except there are breaks between each part for people to get up and go to the bathroom. A movie like that is in a different category and thus should be judged accordingly. The Prince of Egypt is Peak hand drawn Animation that uses CGI during select moments. Basically it makes Disney look like dog shit.

8:22 I mean it's funny but it's also sad - can't even complain about the workload because then you risk. being beaten....itt's still funny when you watch but then you start to think about it and it's suddenly funny and sad at the same time
