I think Rugen running away might be my favorite joke in the whole movie. It's so *perfectly timed* with the drama of Inigo saying the words, the words he recited to Wesley half the movie prior, and Rugen for just a moment preparing for the duel... before he just turns and books it like "I'm not getting paid enough to join those guards he just slaughtered, I'm outta here!"
Normal, inferior Revenge plots: There is nothing you can do to bring back my loved one, so there is no point in killing you. Superior Princess Bride Revenge Plot: There is nothing you can do to bring back my loved one, so there is nothing that will save you from me.
