What kinds of music are best with soft dome vs. be vs planar?
@gen-X-trader

hearing is believing. your esotar 2 is the single best tweeter i have ever heard and i have been speaker building, into hi fi etc since i was 8yrs old and playing with all dads gear. that esotar 2 has no bad behavior and gets the 2khz zone which is SO hard for a dome tweeter to do right nearly perfect. sonic character is 2nd to none

Only if they would last longer. I own $12k speakers with all tweeters corroded. It’s a disgrace. Then I have studio M&K monitors from early 90s that still sound and play perfect.

What do you use for crossover settings? Is it safe to rolloff at 2k at 12db? Any sharper rolloff seems to sound more piercing to my ears.

@@StLouisRod1 I believe in my Confidence c2 the crossover is at 2k 12db/octave

What speakers you would recommend for the average music listener? (I thought maybe the contour 20 for small room) Ilove your speakers, their quality and sound are pure joy and balanced and pure.... wish I could have one system of your speakers... saving up

Hi again, Aviad :-) Uh, well that's a tough question. We have a big range of speakers, so there are many to choose from. The Contour 20s would probably be a fine choice, but if you gave me a little more to go on, I might be able to offer a better recommendation :-) //Christopher.

Dynaudio Oh, I see. thank you for answering. I thought of the contour because I have a small room, and I wanted powerful balanced speakers, I don't have the room for floorstanding speakers, or you say I should save up for the confidence bookshelf? I'd love to hear what you think I should save up for...

The best advice I can give you is to listen to them both. Compare them with each other. That'll give you a really good idea about which of the two you like the most. We think both are excellent speakers - no doubt :-) //Christopher.

Dynaudio ok, guess I'll have to judge by my taste, although I don't know if it'll worth for me, as a average listener to pay more for the confidence which are wayy pricier for me, but maybe it's worth it... I live in Israel, and there is no store/retailer that officially sale dynaudio products. I'll see what I can do, then buy it. thx for answering. helped a lot

We actually have a distributor in Israel whom you can contact: www.audionote.co.il/Contact. They can help you no doubt :-)

beryllium does not ring. it's also lighter than silk.

Ever hear of a little something called Beryllium? You are honestly going to claim a soft dome is better than beryllium?
@dynaudio
@dynaudio 7 лет назад
Hi Mike. Well, the short answer is yes, and, for our speakers, yes :-) As Andreas said in another episode of Ask the Expert, we continuously test other materials to find the ones that are best for our speakers and, at this moment in time, our speakers perform the best as a whole when we use coated soft-dome tweeters. And as Roland says here, it’s not only about the tweeter, it’s about the entire loudspeaker. //Christopher

Dynaudio So what are the compromises you have with the soft dome tweeter? and what was the short comings of the Beryllium domes?
@GBatya
@GBatya 5 лет назад
@@mikeg5172 I would say it is safe to use soft dome then complain about the metal problems... I liked the Focal Beryllium maybe the B&W diamond even better. But finally i think Accuton is the winner.
@mosfet500
@mosfet500 3 года назад
@@GBatya Yes, but that doesn't mean everyone would or find your preferences the same as you. There are several variables and dynamics that come into play from amps to rooms, etc. and then there are your own ears. I personally prefer the Esotar 3 in the Heritage Special, have you heard it? Dynaudio could certainly use Beryllium if they wanted and, remember, they have sophisticated measuring chambers.
@GBatya
@GBatya 3 года назад
@@mosfet500 It's rather a trademark/heritage to have soft -dome for them. Cheaper metal domes have cone oscillations in the audio range but if the break up frequency is high (B&w diamond ~70khz) then the pistonic behaviour improves the sound. Motor structure also important but not enough.
