THE PRISONER - EPISODE 1 THE ARRIVAL (1967) REACTION VIDEO! FIRST TIME WATCHING! Polls, early access and full reactions on Patreon - / reelreviewswithjen
Watch me watch this classic 1960's TV show, The Prisoner, Season 1, Episode 1, The Arrival, in this first time watching reaction video! This episode of The Prisoner, tells the story of after quitting, a secret agent is abducted and taken to what looks like an idyllic village, but is really a bizarre prison. His warders demand information. He gives them nothing, but only tries to escape.
This TV show was created by Patrick McGoohan. This episode was directed by Don Chaffey and written by George Markstein and David Tomblin. The Prisoner stars Patrick McGoohan
as Number Six, Virginia Maskell as The Woman, Paul Eddington as Cobb, George Baker
as The New Number Two, Angelo Muscat as The Butler, Barbara Yu Ling as Taxi Driver, Stephanie Randall as Maid, Fabia Drake as Welfare Worker and Jack Allen as Doctor.
Check out this first time watching horror reaction video for The Prisoner and see if I can make it as a sci-fi TV show rookie. Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss. Typically my TV Show viewings consist of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Worst Witch. This year I decided to expand my TV show knowledge and try and watch these horror TV Show fan favourites.
Check out my first time watching this classic 1960's UK TV Show, The Prisoner, and enjoy my reaction video! Don't forget to like and subscribe for more videos! If you have suggestions for other horror movies I should watch, comment below!

What does the OK sign over an eye gesture mean? Is it a symbol for the Illuminati or something else? It is the Illuminating Eye, Primus Oculus, the first eye. See also, the eye of Horus, eye of Saturn, eye of Jupiter, all seeing eye, Pino occhio in Italian, the eye of God or Providence in America, Nosce Te Ipsum. Pro Aris Et Focis. I Am is the way. I Am is the light. I Am is the truth. Ego sum Lucis Ferre. Learn to think multidimensionally, as you are multi-dimensional and so is life. Umwelt is a very important term to understand. Some who do understand, and others who do not, have used this hidden knowledge to attack certain people who they seem to be demonic or evil, when it is the case with sorcery, as with any other power on earth, that it will be used by people of all the spectrum of emotion and moral expression. It is not the tools that define man, yet what he does with those tools, and the tools man has now, tools of the mind with which communities can be networked to support people with different abilities or the tools as we have seen play out in the media as two sides of a country are drawn by corporate puppet masters and pitted against each other til talk of war and destruction threaten peace that we have enjoyed for a hundred years in the US. Your neighbor is not your enemy, be they black, white, gay or straight, witch, wizards, etc, the only enemy is ignorance, and those that would place themselves above the rest. The place where the show was made is Portmeirion in North Wales. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, and has featured in a few TV shows although the Prisoner really put it on the map. They had a problem with Rover, originally. It was supposed to be a futuristic robot creature, but try as they might, every version of it looked laughable instead of creepy and terrifying. Then one day, some atmospheric scientists operating nearby let a weather balloon get away from them. It drifted across The Village, and the director fell in love with it as the exact thing Rover should be. Mobile, mysterious, other-worldly. So they junked the robot concept and made Rover a sort of living water creature instead.

I've never clicked on a reaction so fast as this one, I've been begging reactors for years to look at this cult classic. Prior to this McGoohan portrayed British M9 agent John Drake an investigator for NATO in the British series "Danger Man" (called "Secret Agent" in the U.S.). It ran from 1960-1962 and then 1964-1968. In the gap the 1st series became popular, as did "The Avengers" and the James Bond films. Drake "always fights fair. He rarely carries a gun. He never falls into bed with the girl." from the back of the DVD box set. The series was shot in black and white except for the 4th series which consisted of the last 2 episodes which were in color, together they were released as a film in theaters. McGoohan announced he was quitting the series to work on a new show "The Prisoner". The white ball is called a Rover. The series is like "Buffy" in that stories can be seen as allegories for society at the time. McGoohan was in 3 episodes of Columbo. He won a Best Supporting Actor Emmy for the 1st one and directed the 2nd 2. The 2nd one 'Identity Crisis' has him as an actor in a film filled with allusions to "The Prisoner". "Many call this the 18th episode of that show with McGoohan wearing a similar jacket and using the greeting "Be seeing you," according to the authorized companion book "The Prisoner Handbook." He was also in the acclaimed film "Ice Station Zebra" in 1968 with Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine and ex-NFL player Jim Brown.
@1nelsondj
@1nelsondj 3 года назад
1 point I want to make, there is debate over the running order of 2 episodes: the DVD set vol. 4 has 'A, B and C' before 'The General' but it doesn't make sense since a main character is introduced to #6 in the latter one. I swap them out.

Jen, Patrick McGoohan's T.V. show "Danger Man" was a huge T.V. hit in England and the U.S. When the series had finished, he approached the T.V. companies about a new show he wanted to produce. The show was one of the first U.K. t.v. shows to be filmed in colour. McGoohan only wanted to film the series over 6 episodes.But the t.v. companies wanted more so in the end 15 episodes were filmed. These day's 6 episodes would make an ideal Netflix series. After 58 years the "Prisoner" is still a t.v. show that never seems to go out of fashion. It alway's seem's to being rediscovered. Cheers, Chris Perry.

Patrick McGoohan was a huge British TV star and "The Prisoner" is his signature role. You may also know him from "Scanners" and as the English King in "Braveheart". The Prisoner, wow! Diving into the deep end of advent-guard of experimental TV, I see. Are you watching the fan favorite order? Trivia: It has been speculated that Number Six is in fact John Drake from Patrick McGoohan's earlier series, Danger Man (1960) and Secret Agent (1964). Several references to the earlier series appear, many bit players are common between them, and some believe he is referred to by name in one episode (though others interpret the dialogue differently). However you don't have to watch those shows. Although McGoohan vehemently denied that Number Six is Drake, he seems to have been out-voted, as co-writer George Markstein said yes, and officially sanctioned novels based on the series refer to Number Six as John Drake.

Won't function unless all parts are in working order/compliant. *Rover (the Bubble):* In the human bloodstream, patrolling white blood cells track and eliminate foreign bodies that may pose a danger. I feel like we still haven’t caught up to it, but we’re getting there. The last episode is the greatest episode of television of all time.

This is a pleasant unexpected surprise! The Prisoner was one of my favourite shows as a child in the 70s (which I watched in reruns). I was too young to understand it- until I was in my 20s and bought all the episodes on vhs (!!!) in the 1990s (I still have them on a bookshelf). It's very surreal at times and riddled with metaphors. The floating bubble is known as "Rover" and is the "prison guard" of The Village where our hero is imprisoned. Patrick McGoohan's later work would be playing King Edward in Braveheart- (and also Dr Ruth in Scanners) but The Prisoner is my favourite of his work. Be sure to watch the "alternative cut" of "The Chimes of Big Ben"- it has an alternate end credits sequence that gives a hint of the significance of the Penny Farthing Cycle symbol. Can't wait to see your reaction to all of them- the final episode is absolutely brilliant considering this was a 1960s mini series.

The car is a Lotus 7. From Wikipedia. * "The Lotus Seven is a small, simple, lightweight two-seater open-top sports car produced by the British manufacturer Lotus Cars (initially called Lotus Engineering) between 1957 and 1972. It was designed by Lotus founder Colin Chapman and has been considered the embodiment of the Lotus philosophy of performance through low weight and simplicity. The original model was highly successful with more than 2,500 cars sold, due to its attraction as a road legal car that could be used for clubman racing. After Lotus ended production of the Seven, Caterham bought the rights and today Caterham makes both kits and fully assembled cars based on the original design known as the Caterham 7."*

One of my favorite TV shows in the 60s was the British spy series The Avengers. The USA only got the last 3 seasons (4-6) and it was only years later that seasons 2-3 were seen in the US. I love this series. Hopefully you react to all of it. It's a weird ride, but lots of fun. Patrick McGoohan had starred in a spy series before this one "Danger Man" aka "Secret Agent", so this seems like a logical progression from that, and some have suggested Number 6 is the same character from Danger Man. Also at one point when I was watching these episodes on PBS as a kid one channel ran them back to back with a Danger Man episode, so I think they saw the obvious connections too. I'm pretty sure Patrick always intended The Prisoner to be a one season show.

Wow! I'm shocked to see someone do this! Awesome!!!! Oh my gosh, I'm in the middle of watching it now, so happy you're enjoying the style and the "coolness" of it all! Each week, there's a new No. 2, that's the weekly guest star, the person who has to work on him. Other than that, embrace the mysteriousness of it all, and enjoy the ride! (and style). I remember seeing this on TV when I was a really little (my parents were watching it), I thought it was the weirdest thing I ever saw. It's soooooo '67! Every year in the 60s had it's own character, especially in the second half, and this show is so 1967, which is so fun, it was such a colorful, psychedelic year, the year everything changed for good! :D (Pleeeease, do one of the great movies of 1967, and of all time, "Bonnie And Clyde"! It's practically the dividing line between "old" movies and the style we're still in to this day). You ask about other series? If you're doing British, I definitely would love to see someone do the classic miniseries "I, Claudius" (1975), or "The Six Wives Of Henry VIII" (six wives, six episodes, fascinating). Both of those are incredible!! "I, Claudius" is world famous and beloved, if you do that, people will freak out. That's 12 episodes. For the USA, I'd love for someone to react to the Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet" (season 5, episode 3, I believe)! I really enjoyed this! If you do more, I'll rewatch a long with you! I know you don't have to "binge" watch them, you can do them a little at a time. I put them on when I'm in the mood for something weird and fun and colorful. Thanks again, Jen!!!

A little history on Rover (orange alert). At first, the Village's chief enforcer was meant to be a futuristic white robot, but every thing they tried looked like something you would have seen on Doctor Who. Overlarge, clumsy, festooned with blinking lights, slow moving. Try as they might they just couldn't make the stupid-looking thing *_terrifying_* enough. One day, a team of meteorologists hard at work up the beach launching weather balloons let one get away from them, the wind took it right through Portmerion where The Prisoner was filming, and as it bounced and rolled through a shot, the director fell in love with it. It was eerily similar to what had been described in the script, surreal but menacing. All it would take to turn it into Rover would be a few sound effects added in post. They sent someone to offer to buy it from the scientists immediately.

Patrick McGoohan had previously starred in a spy drama called _Danger Man_ in which he played British secret agent John Drake. It is a long time fan theory that No 6 is Drake, but everyone involved in _The Prisoner_ denies it...despite numerous parallels between Drake and No 6. It might be because if they ever admitted it, they'd have to pay the creators of _Danger Man_ royalties.

The village is Portmerion in North Wales on an estuary. It's exceptionally beautiful to visit and wasn't revealed as the show's location until the final story. Of course it's famous for being the 'village' in the Prisoner, but was also seen in McGoohan's previous show, Danger Man with a story set in Italy but productions of the day had no budget to be able to actually film there!. So Portmerion stood in for an Italian village. I think it was also used in a Dr Who story. It's a regular little rabbit warren of pathways and lovely views over the estuary.
