On May 1, 2019, Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne in Japan, marking the official beginning of the "Reiwa" era. At the same time, Japan welcomed a new Empress, Masako Owada.
Harvard and Oxford-educated, a female diplomat fluent in multiple languages, pursued by the Crown Prince for 7 years, battling depression and suitability disorders, these are all labels associated with Masako.
From a top-tier school's outstanding student to a promising diplomat, and then to a depressed Crown princess, what has happened in the life of Masako Owada over the years? In this video, I will introduce the life story of "The Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne", Masako Owada.

12:38 ❤ Poor beautiful and clever Empress Masako! So much talent being left behind and forced to marry, once the Crown Prince, now the Emperor Naruhito. Masako HAS one of the Greatest BACKGROUND, inteligence, Diplomat's daughter, studied at Harvard & Oxford, lived abroad, music skill, with 4 or 5 foreign languages, all together Never SEEEN SKILLS among any other Crown Princesses nor any QUEEN CONSORT that Reigned in this PLANET. Masako deserves some kind of Recognition.

The reason why Empress Masako did not appear publicly and suffered from adjustment disorder was because she was forced to give birth to a boy. Those around her wanted and expected it. However, since she was only able to give birth to a daughter, the Emperor and Empress told her that she should give birth to a son that night. People around him began to say that it would be a good idea for his second son's wife to give birth to a son. As punishment, the emperor did not introduce her to parties of international importance. The Empress had her reporter write that she was absent from official duties. Princess Masako was shocked because it was leaked that she had a miscarriage after an early pregnancy. Everyone around her couldn't believe it, and the Empress was always watching over her, but it was the Crown Prince who saved her. He said through the press that he would like them to stop denying Masako's character.

Masako could have become the First Female Prime Minister of Japan if she had refused to marry Naruhito, and instead followed her father’s footsteps in the diplomatic arena. What a waste of brilliant mind. Masako was too good for the Imperial Family; she deserved better.

Everything you say about Michiko is wrong. WRONG! Michiko is a very evil woman. She drove Masako into depression over the past 30 years because of her jealousy. She is a cancer in the imperial family. Michiko even treated her own daughter dreadfully.

I am Japanese. Thank you for writing an article about Empress Masako. However, there is a small mistake. It was the former Empress Michiko who locked up Empress Masako and made her ill. Michiko was jealous of Masako's beauty and intelligence. And she ordered her officials to abuse Masako. Moreover, Michiko abused Masako's daughter Aiko. Michiko is a woman as scary as a demon.

@WS74128 When in the 19th century emperor Franz Joseph married Elizabeth of Bavaria ( Sissi), the two loved each other, but his mother was horrible to her. Elizabeth had a son, but her mother in law took him away from her to raise him how she wanted him to be raised. The empress .other continued to abuse her daughter in law and her son Franz Joseph never stood up to his wife. Eventually the 2 separated and later she was killed by an assassin

I always felt bad for Prince Hisahito. He’s literally a bandaid on a gushing wound. Just as people feel Masako was used, he’s being used too. Who’s to say he wants to be Emperor? What if he has all girls too? Or what if he falls in love with a non-Japanese woman? They won’t allow a foreigner to be his wife. Honestly, if they want the Japanese Imperial Line to continue, they need equal primogeniture. Male or female, blood is blood. England finally got with it a decade ago. The rest of the world needs to catch up.
@fuchurZero
@fuchurZero 2 месяца назад
The British Royal Family never knew absolute male primogeniture. If that would have been so, then we wouldnt have had neither Queen Victoria nor Queen Elizabeth II. They had the male primogeniture, but that doesnt mean, that girls cant succeede to the throne. When George VI, Queen Elizabeth II father became king, Elizabeth waa only heiress presumptive. If her parents had had a boy, he would have leapfrogged her and her sister Margaret in the order of succession. But as they didnt have a boy, Elizabeth became heiress apparent. This means for the line of succession: Boys come first, but if there are no boys in the direct line, a girl can succeed to the throne, if she is in the direct line.

What do you mean "the rest of the world needs to catch up ". England was one of the LAST European countries to "catch up." Only Monaco still has the archaic Male first law. I don't know much about the Middle East and Asia, but it wouldn't surprise me if they still have the Male only laws. In Jordan, they do.

Masako and her family were pressed to let her marry Naruhito. Don´t know if Kiko had to get pregnant for the sake of getting male heir. She was 40 to get the third child. Felt bad for Aiko. Heard that she was bullied by other royal family members about her look. She is practically the splitting image of her father! All rigid royal family rules suffocate her too much.

Tbh, I kinda regret Masako marrying into the Royal Family. What a waste! I saw a footage of her ducking reporters back in 80s, what an extremely attractive woman! Dressed elegantly, with natural charming expressions and a face so pretty. She wore her emotions on her face and was unable to fake nice which is honestly, her weakness and downfall in her future royal career.

It's important not to use the Western lenses of individuality, rights, freedom when trying to decipher or evaluate Japanese proclivities. For them duty, communality, fidelity, deference, respect, loyalty etc are what gives life and obligation meaning.

This Poor Girl was Literally "Blackmailed" Into This Horrific Family. Masako did Not want to Marry Naruhito and Turned Down Several of His Proposals. She Had Her Own Hopes and Dreams of Working as an International Diplomat. But Naruhito Wanted to Marry Masako and That was All That Mattered. He Wanted What He Wanted!! Her Family was Threatened with Total Ruin, Especially Her Father If Masako Didn't Comply to Naruhitos Wishes. She Gave Up Her Lifes Dream For Her Family and With a Broken Heart, Married Naruhito. They "Broke Her Mentally and Spiritually"!! She Has Never Been the Same Since Then. Her Heart Was Wounded and Has Never Healed. What a Horrid and Selfish Thing Naruhito Did to This Beautiful Women. I Hope Someday Masako Finds the Courage to Flee From This Prison. GOD BLESS YOU MASAKO!!!

@@lsmith9249 You don't need to be her friend to learn all those things. The Japanese media has been vocal in 'spilling the beans' about the terrible bullying she has been enduring over the past 25 years (through till the present)! For me, it was a true revelation to see Masako so visibly happy during their brief visit to the UK! I'm so glad she could experience that sense of freedom, even if only for that brief moment.

I think being married to the Crown Prince was just suffocating for Masako. Her husband, the Crown Prince, did not look after her. Also, the education she had at Harvard and Oxford, plus speaking five different languages and prior to her marriage, being a Diplomat. How many MEN that served in the Japanese Council had those qualifications verses Empress Masako? What a shame!! So glad their daughter Aiko went ahead with her marriage to Kei Komuro.

Lmao. Your information is SO wrong. Princess Aiko is loved deeply by both parent and not married to anyone at present. That princess you think of, is her cousin. I regret Masako marrying into the royal family too but it's a well known fact in Japan and elsewhere that her husband loves her, is deeply devoted to her, protects her to the point that he almost gets evicted from the Crown and ostracized by his family.
