If you've read the book and watched the series Band of Brothers, then you already know who Dick Winters is. In this episode, we're continuing our tour through the amazing private collection at the Gettysburg Museum of History (www.gettysburgmuseumofhistory.com) to see the personal items that belonged to Major Dick Winters. This is a one of a kind collection. There is no other. In addition, we see other items that belong to other Easy Company men such as Babe Heffron, Forrest Guth and Ron Speirs. Stunning items from beginning to end!
Note: In the video, Erik inadvertently said "5th Fallschirmjager Regiment" when he meant to say 6th.

Yes. In San Francisco down in the Fisherman's Wharf area there is a WWII (I hope I have that right) USN submarine. Inside the buidling next to it I remember displays and you could write the name of a family member(s) who served in WWII and put his/her name on a board for other's to see. It was hard to get the pen and get my grandpa's name on that tab, to put on that board because I was getting the lump in my throat and the watery eyes. I did not want anyone to notice. I completed the task for him though.

Dick Winters and I were from Lancaster, Pa. I’ve read just about everything that has been written about him. In 2015 I went to the Cemetary where he’s buried, saluted him and left a piece of Arizona Petrified wood on his marker. What a day! What an honor.

Fantastic collection! My father in law was a B-24 pilot out of Italy from 43-45. He saved everything from the war! We didn't know it until after he passed three years ago and we were cleaning a shed out. His Army Air Corps locker and other boxes were stored out there. Everything was destroyed. We did salvage his 50 mission cap (he tucked a note in the brim stating this hat was worn on every mission), a note written in all caps to his parents stating: "I HAVE COMPLETED MY 50 MISSIONS! LETTER TO FOLLOW". That was just devastating. Luckily he kept his medals (Distinguished Flying Cross, Unit Citation, etc...)and officer ID in his desk.

Just watched the video. You're lucky to have those items in your museum. I've watched Band of Brothers several times. It never gets old. Seems like I always see something I missed. That, or after listening to an interview of one of men and an experience, I look for that in the series. It's sad that those heroes have now passed away. Truly a group of brave men, as well as a generation to admire.

We bought the book Hang Tough and then watched this later last night. :) It was wonderful to meet Eric. So much info.to share. Dan and I were thrilled to visit. It is the best museum in Gettysburg IF you want to learn history. Some of it we need to see and remember NOT to repeat it. So happy to learn of our men who are heros. Well the guy deserves a medal anyway. A public service award or something. I hope he's got a contribution box for voluntary donations.

As a WW2 collector, I would rather have Dick Winter's .45 , than any of Hitler's firearms. In fact, any .45 used by an American in that war is more important to me than any other firearms used by our enemies. Regardless of present day monetary value, American paraphernalia is by far the most valuable to me.
