Automation is an essential tool in any recording DAW and is essential to a well balanced and dynamic mix or production - but it has some drawbacks... Once you write some automation in Pro Tools you can no longer use your faders - because they are set to FOLLOW the automation you just wrote! Which, of course, makes sense - but is very frustrating if you like mixing with faders and want to make a simple tweak!
Well luckily, there is a solution that allows you to regain control of your Pro Tools volume faders while retaining any volume automation you've already written! It's called the "trim" feature and it's a Pro Tools must know!
