The Royal family brings in a lot of money. A lot of people work for them and can feed their families. Great Britain would be completely uninteresting without them for the world. They are the remnants of british great times..

It almost seems like the Queen got Andrew's house back (perhaps to keep Sarah from getting it in the divorce?), gave him the money to live on, and is now letting the house fall to ruin, to be reclaimed by Mother Nature. Surely they track the harriers? If they weren't shot and killed, they must have shown up later. If not, then what happened to them. Andrew doesn't have to worry about Kazakhstan. When the Queen made him a Knight of Garter, he got diplomatic status.

Having or not having a King/Queen is of course controversial and subjective. I'm Italian and our President cost much much more, don't know why and he is not a turistic attraction ! But one thing, the Queen/King when fit for the post, is perhaps better because she/he is not a politician. So not running for elections, has no compromise or favor to reciprocate for having been elected. She/he is a super partes and this is a good thing, I believe. As for Queen Elizabeth, I woul say St. Elizabeth. More than 60 years, always on duty, always smiling, shaking hands from morning to night... I will not like to be in her place

You seem to be saying that those in parliament charged with checking the spending of the royals, is some kind of gossip mongering. You don't believe in accountability of public money, do you?

1977 was the last time anybody cared about this strange family, every offspring has been a typical failure, I think the world was interested in Diana, but those times are long gone. Stories of Queen's and Princes are only that of fairy tales, the reality is quite different! We know that this thrown was supposed to be dissolved before the Queen took control, She has held onto to it for the last 65 years on public funds, which undermines us all in a modern democracy. Her last speech was the worst, telling people they need to tighten their belts on spending whilst wearing a gold and diamond(Indian) crown and sitting on a throne. That is the definition of hypocrisy. Not to mention the 'spider letters' of the oldest 'prince' in the world, trying to change the course of British democracy, we all know they are from German decent anyway and have changed their names to seem more British, but they are NOT representative of modern Britain and they are well past their sell by date. I'm pretty sure if you had a referendum tomorrow, we would scrap their funding completely and all assets to be returned to the Treasury. I'm in shock that most of the comments on here are saying what a bad journalist this guy is, well shame on you, they are searching for the truth and guess what, they are blocked by the crown even under FOI ! This is an injustice and as Gandhi said 'an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'. It's also the reason the US/Australia and many other countries do not take us seriously. We need to be independent of the crown for it holds a nasty history of supremacy and will not aid us building bridges with the rest of the world. The Queen is nearly 100 years old, what rulers are nearly hundred ? Dictators that's who. I could be wrong but it's worth noting it's one rule for them and another for us, that is just terrible in 2017. We need a Qexit to decide if we should fund them after nearly 70 years of 'royal duties' - with drive by's and cutting ribbons etc. We could use our security services to look after the public and stop wasting resources on the spectre of Imperial Empire that is so loathed around the world. Sorry if I upset peop's but the truth has to be said, whether popular or not. WELCOME to free speech, or do I have to go to the tower ? It's just ridiculous artefact of history and should retired(judging from the fact nobody wants to even watch anything about the 'royals'), it's very existence pertains itself to the reinforcement of inequality in modern society. PS. Triple barrelled surnames is just pompous..

Think how many people will lose jobs & income if you kill the royal machine. Their direct household staff, reporters, photographers, painters, related media, fleet street, souvenir manufacturers, film crew documentary makers, salesmen, etc etc etc etc, if anything they are good for entertainment drama & intrigue.

Therefore they do nothing else.

Putting Andrew on the train regardless if it is 1st class will surly put his safety at a higher risk and then the risk of the other travelers will be at a greater risk lol

How many people travel to England to see the royal family? How many put money into their economy when they visit and really where would England be without them. The house of Windsor is a tourist attraction. The family has very few private moments and lives in a fish bowl. Give them a break. These royals act far better than a lot of other royals.

I don't think the security cost is that shocking, it's basically paying other people's wages, exactly how the government pay for nurses, doctors, teachers etc.

Being from Holland and paying for our own royals its just like this,Royals are a kind of Hollywood image and show,we all wanna see and pay for. If we don't want it we have to abolish them and so miss the show. Look at the Germans,they adore the dutch and English royals and the Swedish of course because they miss that show. So as long as you want them you have to pay for them. In holland we only pay for the direct in line for the throne,so when alexander got his daughter 9 royals were cut from funding. I think England should do the same,Its the Queen,her son,her spare air and than the two son's of charles,the rest can pay their own way,believe me they have enough.Beatrix and Lillibeth are the richest woman in the world. The Dutch Royals are good for 200 billion,I believe the English royals have the double amount of that. So give them an allowance for the show and for the rest let them pay their own way

I don't think it is wrong, I think it reflected what was occuring at the time of the doc. He is in search and rescue before he quit but I think it was a branch of the raf if I am not mistaken.

And you get to have a boatload of fun on all your trips. They take all the money for salaries etc. one big vacation

Being American I look at the European Monarchies with envy. I love the idea of having a King/Queen it's kind of unites everybody with a sense of national pride. Let's face it most of America especially where I live in New England are Englishman anyway we just kind of tweeked the culture a bit lol
