I myself really enjoy playing Dress to Impress, but I also like having an analytical perspective on games that I play and wanted to bring these up early on so dti wouldn't make the same mistakes as some other games! Some have pointed out that Dress to Impress is "just a game" and not to think too deeply about it. While I understand why some people might say this, it's crucial to recognize the profound impact games can have on our lives. Research has consistently demonstrated that video games can significantly affect psychology, self-perception, and real-world self-expression, especially as they have very frequent touchpoints with us. What might appear as harmless game design choices often subtly reinforce existing social norms and stereotypes-for better or worse-to create content that immediately catches on with the target audience. This can have effects on players who “grow up” with the game, shaping players’ worldviews and identities well beyond the game. I also want to clarify my earlier point about developer motivations. These thoughts came from some conversations I’ve had with Roblox developer friends who either struggled or succeeded with keeping their games alive. While retention and revenue are indeed crucial metrics, I may have oversimplified this point. The reality is much more nuanced: 1. These metrics are often necessary for a game's survival, allowing developer teams to turn their games from side hobbies to full-time jobs. 2. The Dress to Impress team clearly prioritizes player experience alongside these business concerns. For example, I really appreciate how they make many clothing items and updates available for new players without requiring VIP. I also recognize Dress to Impress is still in its early stages. My video captured issues in the current state, but I'm optimistic and excited to see how the game grows and improves to address them. A message to the Dress to Impress team: you've cultivated a powerful community. Your game will become a core part of our memories, influencing everything from small inside jokes to broader goals and ambitions in our lives. It's a fashion game, not every game-dev is trying to steal people's money- This is looking into this too deep- like... DTI is not trying to make girls hate themselves.
i HATE it when people talk about "oH iT's nOt iNcLuSiVe EnOuGh!!'" like bruh. THE DEVS ARE TEENS. rebuilding every single model is hard and time consuming. think about their perspective balancing developing snd school is hard enough! and forcing somen to make tasks is a bad way to put it. Like saying that it's catering to a female audience. It's a fashion game not a goddamn female empowerment movement?? also most of the players are men in wigs / online drag queens. Also it's not forcing women to do repetitive tasks it's a fashion runway with different themes, to be whatsver u want to be, regardless of all gender roles.
i know how they are stereotyping body types but if they made multiple body types they would have to re- rig every piece of clothing. its a lot of work for them

About the “female targeted games all being about fashion” thing, the game has never stated that it’s specifically targeting women, and neither have those “male targeted games” you mentioned. You’re the one labeling those as such. Dress up games are a genre, anyone can play them.
I’m seeing so many comments saying the same thing: “calm down it’s just a game”, and it’s honestly annoying me so much. (my main point): yeah, it *is* a game, but that doesn’t doesn’t rid it any power of impacting people’s perception of their body. the stem of my eating disorder was literally things like this. repetitive, often unachievable beauty standards, wether that was in royale high or social media. you’re not looking too deep into this, in fact this was probably most people first thought when looking at a dress to impress model. anyone saying “chill out omg” has clearly never dealt with body image issues and is too caught up in their close-mindedness to consider how this game has made other people, with different problems feel.
The reason you can’t put on the opposite gender clothes are because the dress to impress developers or builders have to work so much harder just to make another version for the males and females. I think they made some clothes wearable for other genders. In my opinion it could affect a persons insecurity, but I believe it can’t affect that much unless you are already really insecure. I do agree we should have other body types, but they might not even care about the body’s only the clothes,fashion,theme,and stars. I do agree with we need a break every 10 minutes so we don’t get carried away. Honestly, this game is really good for fashion. But dress to impress can’t always update everything you want.
Honestly my only problem with is the community itself. Now, I’m not sure if it’s just me but I suck at Dress To Impress I have no sense of fashion (from what the standards of society says) and when I play there’s always mean comments directed to me saying that my outfit is trash and or saying I suck or they go “1 star” and it took me down it makes me feel really insecure and now I’m self conscious about myself more then before. I didn’t help as I had social anxiety before. I try to vote as honest as I can towards others but I just feel like others don’t towards me. Therefore, I stopped playing Dress To Impress but it’s so trendy I feel like I’m obligated to play it.
I get your opinion, but the owner (aka Gigi) is ONLY 14. Plus, she’s been working really hard with updates, etc. making new body types can be harder to make due to Roblox’s default body types. I’m honestly surprised a 14 year old can make such an advanced and detailed character because you can’t find realistic hands and human-like figures on Roblox. Asking for more body types right after Gigi released the summer update is just too much to ask for. The new items must’ve taken so long to make. Especially as a high school student. And as you mentioned, they’re kids that mainly play dti (dress to impress). So they don’t really have the mature mindset into thinking of body inclusivity. They aren’t going to think about how some bodies aren’t included. Can’t we just appreciate what she made for us? If we make plus sizes, will we still be happy? Or will the community start complaining again about not having certain inclusive items? Before we think about ourselves and the body type we want to have in dress to impress, let’s think about Gigi. Remaking all clothing so they can all fit in the plus size bodies, working hours to change the bodies she worked so hard for, redoing all the clothing so it can “not fit into the stereotypes of a girl.” As a girl, I find no problem adding plus size models into the game. But after all, how about we try if we’re so desperate to “change the influence on girls?” How about we try to do all that coding to do change something that’s not even a big deal? I’m not hating on plus size people, I’m just saying, if so many kids are playing this game, they won’t really care. It’s a game. It’s supposed to be fun, not life changing. As a younger teen, I can say I don’t really care too much what the model looks like. It’s a fashion game, and that’s all I’m there for. It’s also a Roblox game. A Roblox game -_-. It’s not gonna influence me that much as something like a TV show, or movie, or something. I do agree that the boys stuff is kind of limited and that the game is mostly for girls. But making new clothes or making models of the girl clothes to fit the male body takes time. I also don’t think boys who want to play with the male body are being “prohibited”, or, “not allowed” to use the female clothes bc it hasn’t been made to fit it. :/
Don’t forget they vote the worst outfits 5 stars and then you wanna improve so you play longer but then.. you get so addicted to fashion than you gotta threat yourself to be beautiful, but you know you are beautiful already, you still do it, wear uncomfortable clothes like tight pants etc, and dangerously be skinny so you can be pretty, dress to impress needs a report button or needs a better audience.
Most of the kids who play this game are born after the year 2015 it’s pretty clear by the way they dress in the game. So I don’t think ANYONE is really looking at the body type that way. Honestly people are more focused on doing the theme right and having fun. I feel like for many people dti is a source of fashion and creating outfits that really show you the concept of fashion that inspires many people. It really shouldn’t be looked at this way. Coming from a girl who plays it I am addicted because I love exploring fashion and that’s what all the players are like to be honest.
It may subconsciously enforce modern beauty standards, the human brain is very complex, everything you see will be planted into your mind some way or another. so maybe through the little things, you may only see one body type is beautiful.

Actually, I didnt even notice until you pointed it out in this video. My point is that if you’re comparing YOUR REAL LIFE body to a VIRTUAL BODY, Isn’t that your problem? Not the games fault? I see the problem, but I just think this video is looking too deep into it. The creator of the game obviously isn’t trying to make this game into anything more than a fashion game, and of course the body for the in game character isn’t a realistic standard but I think a lot of the players don’t even care, the ones that do shouldn’t be playing the game and really should love themselves for who they are and not what a Roblox game says. Adding on, it’d be really hard making all these different body shapes as well as making the clothes to fit them properly, I do think it’d be great to have different body types in dti in the future, but as it’s looking right now I don’t think it’s coming anytime soon considering the hardships.

From a developer’s point of view, I understand there are technical limitations and a busy dev team that make it difficult (but not impossible) to incorporate some features that would help resolve many of these issues. However, it’s important to be critical about how the lack of these “difficult-to-solve” features in the game may be communicated to younger audiences. Technology is never developed in a vacuum -- it's developed for and in a complex society. Therefore, it's important to consider the reception of it as well. I wrote a bit more in my pinned comment :)
The dev team is small, literally 17 and 14. Do you think they would know that this game would be so popular and viral. Give them a break. The developers are STILL a younger audience. They are TEENS @@Jenstine
I think your point is pretty valid. Though, I don’t think DTI is encouraging people to feel insecure about they’re size. I think it would also be nice for them to let us change our sizes but, if the creator did do that, it would most likely take a very long time to do this.
I agree with you, you are not the only one looking deep into this. Kids as young as probably five years old are playing this game and looking at these avatars being like, wow so pretty. You really would be surprised how much this does send different signals to your brain. Even if we’re not directly telling ourselves we should look like the avatars it’s appealing to the eye. But, most of the people playing this game are very young children who like myself are highly vulnerable and influenced by our surroundings. Everyone says the developer is 14 and as someone relatively similar in age I think the developer is just as influenced. And I know that what this developer has created is what garnered the certain amount of success they have and that’s just kinda how the gaming industry works, stuff has to be appealing to the eye. That being said don’t take the games avatars to heart I love this game and the developer has managed to be so successful at such a young age and I wouldn’t want to take away from their success I just am into digging deep and I understand others are not, and that’s ok. Also, again the developer is only 14 so at the end of the day it really is not their responsibility to worry about how this could affect children it’s the parents responsibility.
Probably because they already cultivated an audience of mostly girls and those who like Fem things, meaning they'd be putting more time into creating a bunch of items/clothes that less are making use of, and is making them overall less money. It's sad but there's not really a reason to spend time and money on something that won't be used by 80% of their playerbase, right
@@1Rose_ Yeah that's a really interesting point and I'm sure the developers have thought a lot about the tradeoffs of the space the extra clothing will take up in the dressing room as well. For ex the dressing room can't be TOO big or people won't be able to navigate to what they want in time and it'll be even more overwhelming for new players. But the developers might not want to do a GUI where you search through clothes because while that's more efficient, it would take away from the walking around and 'window-shopping' feeling of the dress up
Omg thank you so much I needed this video... Personally i hate the style of the game and I dont know what it's offering to people. I dont like the fashion choices and I definally agree with your negative opinion about them having the perfect bodies. Because modeling and fashion isnt a barbie girl with the perfect body. It has to make people feel comfortable with their appearance and I personally hate that skinny body I wish we had one with more weight for me the perfect thin body isnt a stereotype its just not my thing and Im ignoring it. For example when Im playing other games dressing up my character I always put a gap beetween teeth, body hair on females, scars, vitiligo, freckles and more stuff to make them look cute with their difrences because what is so called to be "perfect" is boring and not my thing.

very true! roblox top model and fashion famous had just as much male players as the female players because they had a multitude of clothing for both genders. Guys arent going to play if they barely have anything for them in the first place.
I'm 1000000% with you in this. I'll be making a video with a deeper dive into all the issues me and my boyfriend see in Dress to Impress. We actually in their discord server commented in their suggestions channel and gave them respectful criticism and we got very positive feedback from the players, but toxic and immature responses FROM THE STAFF OF THE GAME (Kind of ironic, right?...). We also interviewed a old member of their discord community and active player of their game on their experience in the community, and let me just say this.... it was not positive at all. imo (not trying to sound rude) i’ve been playing dti pretty much since its came out, and the game is slowly but surely evolving, and the devs are still pretty young, like still teenagers im pretty sure. they are already rushed and such for not having updates out and i dont blame them for not having more male/plus sized clothing because it can be very tedious and hard to do, i also feel like if you’re playing a video game and feel bad about yourself over a dress up game on roblox?? you should probably get off the internet for a while because i dont think its that serious. i dont think you really needed to go that deep into it as its just a dress up game! sorry if this came off as rude and/or didn’t make sense
I personally think that the women's bodies in dress to impress dont need to be able to wear all the mens clothing but I do think men should eb able too because they have such limited options and because I sometimes want to dress the man body in a dress and heels

most of the devs probably make this game for fun. the developers are aged 14-17 and mostly young people (like me) don’t usually make games for money unless it’s urgent. They usually make games for fun and popularity

Hello as I child which is 12 years old I never noticed this and I think it doesn’t matter to me plus Gigi is 14 her self I think so I didn’t care about any of these since it’s just a game and is a fashion game made for young girls!
Its just a game, no one would compare their own body to a roblox avatar in game , they even added vitiligo to become more inclusive, boy and girls can play freely you cant wear the boys clothes on the girl body because they havent got the stuff to do that yet probs and i dont think ANYONE has had a problem with this game other than glitchs. If everyone is feeling self conscious beacuse of a roblox game, maybe they whould get that checked out. Thank for reading my little rant about this🤷 as someone whos older i get it might not impression me but during the very esrly stages of this game i had a E.D and i was not affecting. By this and my younger siblings aren't either. Its a simple game put into a dress up context with the goal to DRESS UP.🤷

Look I understand the problem but this isn’t gonna stop me from playing it and decreasing how much time I play on it the game is not telling anybody to change the way they are or is it’s just a fun kids game so stop making it more than what it is.

The reason why there isn’t diverse bodies is because the development team would have to make ALL the clothing fit those certain body types same with the boy and girl thing they would have to scale all the clothing to fit those body types and it would take a lot of time yes I do think maybe in the future they could work on this overtime but right now I’m pretty sure they can’t just release stuff without redoing all the clothing items
I think we all still have to remember that the game is still relatively new. Body type variations probably won’t be released until the near future and until there’s more clothing options

Dress to impress wont last. Theres numerous problems with it, the voting issues, the NO OTHER BODY OPTIONS, unequal clothing options, the pricey gamepasses, and the fact that the main developer/moderator is 14... The UI is so overwhelming and complicated, it overlays over eachother and is overall NOT good. Also, moderaters on the discord server are VERY snappy when ANYBODY gives advice or gameplay suggestions, even though they have a channel for gameplay suggestions...
It's just a game, it has nothing to do with real life. We shouldn't have to push this onto kids who play the game, I somewhat see your perspective but we really do not need this, male clothing I understand though. There are supposed to be stereotypes as in skinny models because they made the clothing for fashion shows fit one type of body type and it was theirs, I feel it should stay that way. Diversity as in skin color has already been a thing and there's many POC in the game. We don't need to get political when it's with the children in the game.
I understand what you're trying to say.. But youre taking it TOO DEEP. Its a fashion game. And Gigi herself said that she would never change any body types or add more because it would be so hard to re-create the clothes in different body types. Its a FASHION game. Yes, maybe you ARE right, but the game is about good fashion and styling with curved body and masculine body for men.

It would take a lot of time, effort, and resources that this smaller team probably doesn't have. The main goal here is to make a fun game. If someone's self-esteem is deeply affected by seeing an unrealistic body type in a game, they might benefit from stepping away from the internet and seeking professional help. A lot of people love fashion and beauty games because they're fun and a nice escape from everyday life. Not every game needs to have a deep educational message; sometimes, it's just about having fun and being creative. And for the "girl stereotypes"-are people not allowed to have fun dress-up games? This logic seems confusing. Does this mean fashion brands shouldn't make pink clothes for women because it's "stereotypical" for girls? I think you are deeply overanalyzing this. The idea that the game promotes fast fashion doesn't make sense to me. The game is a virtual space where you can try out different styles without actually buying anything in real life. I've noticed you completely avoid responding to comments about this, which I find interesting. Finally, I think you haven't spent enough time thoroughly explaining your viewpoints. 3 minutes 36 seconds and a few comments has left me still confused.
I LOVEEEEE dress to impress, but honestly I think a lot of people are being a bit…picky I get the diversity part where they need a bit more diversity in bodies etc. etc, but hey they are giving a lot of updates, and adding a lot of different things! My last comments got moderated :( But, I think + sized bodies should be added. If anyone has played Suga Girls, a roblox fashion game that's also realistic, then yk they have both + sizes and sizes. The game is still in beta, but it was a core feature from pretty much the beginning. Roblox's top model and fashion famous were inclusive to male/masculine players. It's why they had such a high ratio of guys to girls than DTI. You're not going to get male players if they only have a few items to choose from in every single round while the girl has tons of items. However, dti makes models and has realistic bodies unlike the other 2 who just used the roblox characters. I also think the prices of some items- robux wise-- are quite high. Roblox's Robux inflation has been on the rise for a while, though. Games want you to spend hundreds of Robux for stuff that is not even worth the money nowadays. However, it's up to each person's opinion to decide if something is too high or not, and that's okay.
The game dress to impress is still in beta (I think) it’s bc the devs are still young as they still go to school so they can’t make its as realistic like having fat bodies the main dev Gigi is currently 17 years old and motoprincess (Owen) is 14 etc. in the future they might make the game more fun and more realistic such as fat bodies more men clothes and men clothes you can wear as a girl today we now have vitiligo for people who have it so they could make their imagination of outfits can grow so this is not really bad or good I’m just trying explain why it’s like this for now
hi I have a question, are you ever going to continue your series "timeless"? i recently watched it and i noticed the episode came out a while ago, and i was wondering if you are making more? as for the video, this is an interesting take! i think that while this may be true, dress to impress is a fairly new game and they are diversifying their game! recently, they added vitiligo and they also added the hijab before as well.
These comments are not mature enough. As a woman even with the same body type as dress to impress uses, i totally agree with you because i have cousins that don't really have that body and are just a little more bigger. And they have grown insecure because of it. And ive got another very skinny slim cousin thats also insecure because apparently her waist is not “small enough“ like in that game. I love how they added different skin colors tho but the options are just very small
Please keep your little cousins off the game. Theres only so much you can do with Roblox body types, i dont think there will be a body types update anytime soon.

They talked about this on their discord stage one time and they are not simply ignoring the "lack of diversity" you pointed it out because other people can still express themselves thru other ways aside from their body type such as their race! no matter how many people wants more body options that would simply be too difficult (as they stated in their discord stge) but they are still trying their best as young and new developers. I saw a comment here by @/puritylives that I agree with, she said that "if ur comparing urself to a video game character then u already needed the help beforehand" which is so true! Some people have also considered that adding plus-size bodies or other body types in general would be used to troll just like how many trolls use hijabs and dark skin colors.
My friend, there’s a huge difference between complaining and pointing out issues. Sure a few of these might be a little over the top but majority of them are actual problems that need to be fixed

Think psychologically in a child's mind; when standards already exist in social media, do we need more of the standards in the games they play today? It's a terrible outlook on their minds. The game already lacks heavily so adding multiple body types would not only look good, but would fixate these kinds of standards getting out there. Besides, trolls? Just vote them a 1 star, it's a simple solution.

Literally have never been influenced by dti. That’s like saying “Royal high is harming 2 the next gen, it’s telling you have 2 be a princess and fly” this is extremely far fetched. As for issue of male clothing and 1 body type, that comes with time, let’s not forget that the game came out only a couple months ago. This game is literally for fun, nobody is gonna hop off the game and start getting a wardrobe that fits dti cuz “a game in roblox said so.” Pls think b4 posting things.
Playing dress to impress is literally just like playing with barbies when you were little. And that's why I adore this game soooo much, it reminds me of when I was young who was obsessed with playing dress ups!!!!
I can agree with you but I think they'd rather focus on the clothing made for the female since majority of players are females and look forward for new clothse instead of having a diverse bodies!I think they cannot control how players play if they want to grind or just play for a short while!Just stating my opinion no hate at all!
