You speak exactly what I've been thinking these last few years in art school. I love and miss the classics.

Then you don't understand what he said. We all miss the inspiration of the classics, and we all are tired of modern, postmodern and relativistic approach.

Good art is inspirational, and inspirational things never need to try and justify itself because the ability to inspire is powerful. Modern art is not even close to inspirational, if it must justify itself against claims thats anyone can do it then obviously it isnt inspiring anybody.

Well said! The main problem with modern art is that if follows no defined rule, and is based all on feeling.

Starts off so well, but then winds up at the absolute wrong conclusion. There is no aesthetic ability in any of the modern art pieces he mentioned at the end. therefore, his argument is terrible.
@gavmonn5901
@gavmonn5901 10 месяцев назад
The thing he argues is that maybe we should look past aesthetics, just like we began looking past realitic portrayal.

So why does the boy pick on the Impressionists? Surely the rot started with Dada and Duchamp not Monet? Monet was an empiricist.

Because a blank canvas and a rock really does compare. So shit art has become.

Ohhhh the white "painting" has a name that's a clever play with it having nothing do show, when this happens then yes, I agree it's art.

How pretentious does one have to be, to shame people into liking something? People do not reject "the rock" and "the white canvas" because its controversial due to some politics, they reject it, because it is uninspiring, lazy and devoid of any and all meaning.
@gavmonn5901

he doesn't shame anyone. in fact he himeslf says that he doesn't like it. And the 2nd part of what you said is subjective.

I've discovered if you make a video saying spreading shit on a canvas isn't art, you will get thumbed down to all hell. 30 people who paint white canvases solid orange and call it art disliked this video.

If dude stole this speech straight up, I'm sure he did it in an attempt to illustrate his argument of modern vs traditional art. He's the modern impressionist approach vs whoever you all originally remember hearing this speech from.... Maybe...? Maybe.

nah bro, a rock is a fuckin rock. "Olympia" is true art solely for the artist being profound in the highest quality of excellence. a white blank canvas is not beautiful or inspiring. it's the lowest standard of "art". the future will be glad we disregard a rock as a rock!

what a load of shit. No one is denying this kind of art. That's the problem we will be looked back as having no objective measures of good art. There is good art made all the time but it's being sidelined by pretentious critics who think taking a shit in a can required deep insight and talent. Spoiler, it doesn't.

Pretentious titles and bad execution do NOT deepen us, unless we are extremely shallow to start with. Your friends must be fairly shallow to be frustrated by silly elitism in the first place.
