of course the disabled person is able to talk after being severely injured by being pushed down a flight of stairs. what kind of fucked up message does this give? to "fix" a disabled person just almost kill them? and this isn't the only portrayal of this message, which just makes it worse. it's even worse to think about the people who actually watch this and agree with the message of it.

As a disabled person I'm so sick and tired of people calling me inspirational cuz I know it more likely comes from a place of “if you can do it I can do anything” and it's about making others feel good about themselves or telling other disabled people that they have “no excuses” even if they have more barriers. (CW for discussion of murder due to ableism) For those who might not know much about ableism, I’d like to point out that the last video feels especially disgusting due to the fact that disabled people being murdered by their loved ones is common enough for there to be a day dedicated to remembering them (Disability Day of Mourning). I often see these murderers sympathized with because of “just how hard it is” to take care of a disabled person. The idea that the mindset that leads to these deaths actually leads to him speaking in the video feels so disgusting. Especially since he’s making a profit off of these horribly ableist ideas.

As a disabled person, I understand how difficult it is/can be for my mother to help me with certain things, but she never makes me feel like a burden and she's always really kind to me. When people sympathise with people who've murdered disabled people because of "how difficult it is", it almost feels like they don't see the disabled person as an actual person, and don't see the person who murdered them as a murderer. It's always disappointing when people who's partner is disabled are always portrayed as if they're trapped in a relationship, where they don't love eachother anymore, and like it's not what the non-disabled person wants. It does happen, obviously, but it's not all situations and I wish it was portrayed differently sometimes.

As someone with Asian heritage, the "Yingmas" spoiled food bit made me so mad. Ugh! Like, no, we really don't eat spoiled food, at least in Hong Kong/Guangdong area cuisine, as far as I know. I really can't speak for asian cultures beyond the one I was exposed to growing up. Things like stinky tofu, duck eggs, etc., are fermented and/or aged, not spoiled!
@bobanoda

Yeah….that one hit home for me bc I used to get made fun of in school when I brought Japanese dishes….I hate when people say Asian people eat “spoiled” food when it’s fermented, you’re totally right on that one, I think in the video they were trying to make fun of kimchi?? @@bobanoda That sucks, no one should be made fun of for celebrating their culture. Yeah, it's irritating, like, no one says that sauerkraut or blue cheese is spoiled. I've been disabled for more than half my life and it still tires me in a way I can't explain to see stuff like this. Every day, people w/ disabilities are told we're not capable enough to care for ourselves, not "normal" enough for relationships, not mature enough for parenting and we're constantly infantalised and treated as less-than-human. This is a perfect example of this. It looks completely exaggerated, but you wouldn't believe me if I told you how often I hear people who believe wild stuff about disabled people. Even doctors don't take you seriously about your own health and body, if you go with a partner or family member, they'll talk directly to them instead of you. In many countries, including the UK, the US and France to just name a few, we can't even get married if we want to still be considered adults by the government. When you get married, the gvt essentially places you under your partner's care w/ a status similar to what you'd be if you were your partner's child. You loose all financial support and become entirely dependent on your partner in the eye of the state. This is what being disabled looks like every day in supposedly "advanced" countries. So unfortunately, the videos this bigot makes aren't so far from the way a lot of people already view people like me. I really appreciate what Nick is doing by pointing this video out in particular, because of course the racism needs to be discussed, but it's talked about in every commentary made on this guy, whereas the ableism is a lot more looked over.

People don’t give kids enough credit. Kids are smart too, they can understand the same storylines as adults can. Yea sometimes you have to make it simpler to understand when it’s something complex and new but that’s the same for adults for a lot of topics as well. So many stories get dumbed down that it’s really insulting. It’s like the whole baby talk thing. Your just supposed to speak to kids like normal people, and just explain things they haven’t learned yet.

I Completely Agree. I Even Speak To Babies In The Same Way I Speak To Adults! I Remember How Insulting It Felt To Me As A Toddler When Adults Would Speak To Me & Other Toddlers/Babies In A "Baby Voice" Only To Notice They Spoke Normally Around Those Older Than I Was. It Made Me Feel Like They Thought I Was Slow/Mentally Handicapped Or Something. I Feel Like It Actually Stunts Babies/Toddlers Emotional/Psychological Development When You Speak To Them Like That IMO.
@genericname8727
@genericname8727 2 года назад
I think it makes sense to do the summaries at the end that state the intended message of the video, but the video itself doesn’t need to be “dumbed down”. I personally don’t object to baby talk if to babies/toddlers, unless we’re talking about body parts and things like that. Like, saying “fishies” instead of “fish” when talking to young children seems pretty harmless to me, and even adults will use that sort of language when emphasising the cuteness, playfulness, or innocence of something. It’s important to use proper terminology for things like their bodies so they’ll understand what things are called and be able to effectively communicate about their bodies if necessary, but baby talk with young kids imo isn’t necessarily such an issue in general. If anything learning about how the way people use different language in some contexts (when talking to different audiences, using different tones, and/or adding extra connotations to the words) is something potentially beneficial for children to learn. I think exclusively speaking to a young child like that can cause issues maybe, but the idea that baby talk is inherently bad is an idea I see people spreading and just completely disagree with. The other reply you received seems bizarre to me. They imply they had an understanding of developmental disabilities as a toddler, that there was a consistency with how they were treated compared to same-age peers vs older people and yet they still felt like it meant that they were “slow” or “mentally handicapped”. If they truly remember feeling that way when they were two then I would suggest there would’ve been much more harmful things going on than just speaking to a baby/toddler the same way you spoke with others their age. If someone is recognising they’re being treated the same as their peers but assuming that means there’s something wrong with them developmentally, then first of all that’s extremely atypical for a toddler to be feeling but it also reflects some much more harmful messaging has been given to them beyond simply being spoken to via baby talk. I think there’s an issue where children start thinking there’s something wrong with being children, like they’re lesser, so being spoken to in a way appropriate for their age feels like an insult because they want to be seen as older than they are. Children shouldn’t be made to feel inferior for being children, they are at a very valuable stage of their life. However, you can encourage children to feel happy being children without also talking to them as if they are just like adults. Young children are far from adults, even though they are just as valuable as adults. You can speak to children like they’re children without being condescending toward them or anything like that too. I think there’s a time and a place for baby talk and similar simplified or playful language though. Sometimes speaking to a young child in the same tone you’d use speaking to an adult does make more sense.

That clip first clip from the "abused dad forces kid to eat food" where the dad was forcing the kid to eat genuinely hit so close to home for me as an autistic person who has a lot of trouble with food texture and taste, and had their dad do that exact thing. obviously there was SO much more horribly wrong with that video and all his content in general, I just find it interesting how even with a small clip like that he manages to have a character do something horrible that has caused me to have an absolute terrible relationship with food to their point where I won't eat something because everything sounds so bad and the thought of trying something new sends me into a panic attack because of what my dad did when I was younger. My dad would shame me, not let me eat till I ate what I "didn't want to" and would force me to try new foods despite every single time it happened me having a meltdown over it. Even too this day I can't try new foods, I can't eat certian foods(all fruit, mushrooms and avocado as examples) because of what my dad did. It's just baffles me that even with small clips like that which aren't meant to be the main focus he still manages to put a character in a horrible situation because of the way they were born. Obviously we don't know if the kid is autistic but the fact that it was a situation at all still caused me to think back to all the horrible things that happened to me. Also please don't console me, pity me, say sorry for what happened, anything like that in the replys I just wanted to point this out.

My stepdad/family in general have either forced me to eat foods I was unsure of or shamed me for not wanting to eat certain things because of taste or texture. I feel especially bad for my brother because if I had this experience, I can't imagine how awful it was for him with him most definitely having sensory issues with a lot of foods.

This dude makes Dhar Mann look coherent. And that first "To Catch a Cheater" clip you showed with the job offer.... that's not catfishing. That's not a cheating trap. That's just creeping on and coercing a woman just looking for a job. Of course, it's fake, but man is that messed up. This dude is also so robotic and uncanny valley. And IDK why these people can't think to actually work with people of the races and other demographics they cover. They can get the actors, so it's not like they don't have any way to do so. Besides.... the internet can solve that issue even if they don't know anyone. It's not hard at all. Hell, there's plenty of channels devoted to sharing the experiences and perspectives of different demographics. Want some insight into life as a black man? Jarvis Johnson, D'Angelo Wallace, MacDoesIt, etc. Want some insight into life as a trans person? Jammidodger, Samantha Lux, Contrapoints, Kat Blaque, Luxeria, Sam Collins, etc. You can get it straight from the actual people! alright is no one gonna call out how ableist cody ko's video about this guy was?? nick didn't do this in his video but creators will make fun of someone faking a disability and then make fun of the disability themselves. cody literally called the disabled character a vegetable in his video. it's not just sameer's videos but the reaction videos made by people about him that are becoming a problem too. CODY LITERALLY SAID A SLUR AND EVERYONE JUST LAUGHED AND MOVED ON. i feel like im going crazy. thought i'd add other examples of ableism in the video: (yikes it's gonna make this comment really long) - laughing at the text to speech voice which some disabled people use - when the character came back home and the wife said she wasn't expecting him they made a joke about wondering where he was going 'unsupervised" as if disabled people don't have lives and the entire point of having a wheelchair and a text to speech accommodation is so disabled people can be more independent - also sameer said the character left his wife cuz she cheated as if mans wasn't literally being abused AND GOT PUSHED DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS. intimate partner violence is mega common in disabled relationships. if you thought the jokes were funny, cool, now think critically about what the jokes are about and who they hurt because them being funny doesn't take that away.

As A black disabled person the racist video made me angry and the ablest video made me angry and sad. I am so disgusted I can’t even put my revulsion into words honestly. Like there could be possibly disabled kids watching this and they don’t know better and then they might internalize it. And as a person who is consciously fighting against my internalized ableism it is a uphill battle and one that could be avoided if people like this man did not share their insane ideals. Or just speak at all. Hearing him say that he couldn’t see and then having him be pushed down the stairs literally terrified/horrified me. Bringing back memories of really mean kids that would intentionally guide me into walls or told me to go to opposite direction from everyone which would result in me getting lost. Don’t even get me started on the whole inspiration thing. and having him put all of these things as jokes or portray them as funny is infuriating and scary because I’ve been on the brunt of the so-called drokes and they really f**k with my head to this day, making me feel as if I’m over reacting, because ha ha ha funny right? I agree that the over the top, cheesy dialog is patronizing to non-english speakers from a storytelling perspective, but as an english speaker, I wonder if it IS helpful with learning the basics of speaking the language. I watched a lot of childrens' content when learning Chinese in school, and while the stories were often simple, it was a good way to learn some basic language skills and occasionally some cultural things like Chinese coloquializms. Aside from Dhar Mann's ability to execute on it, I can see where he is coming from in that one specific case.

This reminded me of the educational "cultural situation" videos we'd watch in my Spanish classes. They were just little 10-15 min videos of a recurring group of characters going through everyday situations in a Spanish-speaking country. There would be 1 min breaks to catch up less fluent viewers on the plot and less common/new vocabulary. That's a pretty dry description bc those vids were the highlight of our week! It was essentially soap opera-style acting done by what looked like 2-5 background actors and it was always hilarious. Stuff like Maritza going to the tailor to get her pants hemmed and on the way gets a taxi and teaches us how to give an address. But the jump cuts! The scene swipes! The camera shots lasting 5 seconds longer than needed! The wind blowing in the actors' mics! It was the most unintentionally entertaining educational material I have ever beared witness to.

I can't speak to the ESL experience, but when I was learning Spanish or French, I could still grasp more complicated themes, as long as they used simpler words. It was still the same story and themes, but put into simpler sentences.

I'd also love a similar relatively-family-friendly breakdown of why Dhar Man is bad too from you, like this! It'd really help me explain to him what these channels are doing.

I genuinely want to thank you for making this video. I've watched other people's videos on him and just thought, 'Oh, those are such weird videos with really bad scrip and acting', and never thought too much on it. Also, this was a great video :)

Hey I am a foreign viewer and I can understand this video very well! You don’t have to dumb down videos for us lol, that’s for sure

Heads up commenters, something can be "post ironic" and still be shitty in subject and in quality. Especially where it pertains to racism, transphobia, ableism etc, no matter how absurd of a level it may take it to. The exact same jokes, told the exact same way, would be leaps and bounds better if approached with tact and if anyone with a shred of actual knowledge on the subjects were involved in the writing. Believe it or not, marginalised and minority groups can be funny too. Its a free market baby, and we're not buying.

Tim Renkows "Jerk", though still definitely subjective in its humour, is an example of the same type of absurdist "non PC" comedy as say, this guys disability jokes, but this time through the actual lived lens of someone with a disability and who isn't purely using cheap laughs and outdated stereotypes to push the dopamine buttons of people who still think family guy is the funniest sh*t to ever be written.

Is kinda sad that the person who made the idea of making fun of this type of videos(Cody Ko) Is now buddies with the main one and defends his videos now.
